I went to Dobbins High School with Hank & Bo. I was a senior when they were freshmen. Hank was a sweetheart and cocky. Bo was a quiet guy. RIP Hank❣️

I just finished watching the movie "Final Shot: The Hank Gathers Story" on The Grio TV channel today. My very first time watching this movie was around 1993 when it had first aired on ABC and I was in the 7th grade. I didn't know who he was at the time, but what really connected me to Hank Gathers story was his gift for basketball, his sense of humor and his devotion to his family. I always felt saddened after watching the movie's ending, and was left wondering what happened to his son Aaron who was only 6 years old when his father passed away. But the good thing is that Hank Gathers made history, and he left a legacy. May God bless him ❤️❤️❤️

This was wonderfully put together. As a sports fan growing up in the 80's, I was enthralled with Hank/Bo and what the rest of the LMU team was doing during the 1990 season. Since this was pre-internet times, and we didn't even have cable TV, I was still getting my sports news the old-fashioned way: the afternoon delivery of the L.A. Times. Knowing that Hank had collapsed just a few days prior, as a result, I was anxious to see how Hank and the rest of the LMU team had done the day before. I had no idea that the next few moments of my life would still affect me over 33 years later. I will NEVER forget the moment...that EXACT moment, when I opened up the sports page, and there, in full-color...the headline of Hank's death...and that photo. It was a photo of Hank during his crisis...a momentary glimmer of hope as Hank would briefly sit-up under his own power. Know matter how 'momentarily' that instance was, all one had to do was shift their gaze momentarily to Hank's eyes. There, you could see more than just a sense of concern that Hank was feeling. Instead, it was an expression of terror. It's still a moment that is frozen in my mind. Standing there...I felt myself becoming weak-kneed...and my eyes just filled with tears. I began to cry, almost sobbed. It was such a tragic moment...one that affected me immensely. I've often wondered why, after all these years, his death seemingly affected me. The only answer I can conceive is one of total and devastating loss...another soul whose time came well before their full legacy could be etched in a place of permanence. It really is life's tragedy...the unfulfilled life and legacy. Your premature death is still a giant loss in our hearts and minds. God bless you, Hank.

I've never heard of this beautiful soul, and this was the saddest way to learn of his existence. Mr. Gathers seems to have been loved and adored by many. Sleep peacefully Sir.

That was so sad. Best years in the history of college basketball, in my opinion. Loyola lost to UNLV in the 4th round that year. Who then lost to Duke in the Final Four.

Seeing him fall on the court, I believe he would have lived if they did CPR and use an AED, instead of just standing there and kicking rocks.
