A lot of this went over my head (not being a farmer of any kind), but I appreciate the analysis and reflection you give it

Thanks for the video Andrew, informative as always! We just got our soil sample results for the farm (just took over from grandfather last year), PH in the 5's, phosphorus 3, high in magnesium, low in calcium. A lot of work to start tackling that ahead!

Enformative and intelligent as usual. Great attention to detail.lots to learn especially from a humble beef farmer like me 🥴!!!

Would you consider pipes ? Or what’s your opinion on them to try and get slurry out early on ground and not make a mess ?
@MarcFinnegan13 күн бұрын
Your really good at explaining things so can you tell me how does tedding out increase the energy? Does it increase protein too?? And d values etc??
@FarmTheoryNI11 күн бұрын
Easier to ferment if it's drier. So you save energy.
@Modlendingen13 күн бұрын
Have you considered seperating the slurry and get a higher N value on the slurry, and use the solids for the P and K adjustments? :) Would you potensially hire a umbillical contractor to get the slurry out in a couple of weeks time if it's to wet for a tanker but a tractor can float on top? Interesting video as always anyway :)
@FarmTheoryNI11 күн бұрын
Nope, doesn't make sense for me.

Farmhand do tedders and rakes also. I have started tedding everything at least once leafy grass like yours i wouldn't rule do it if it wSnt optimum conditions. Did you ever try a slurry additive im convinced it breaks down quicker on the sward.

does it matter if the slurry is put out early february when there still isnt much grass growth? or does it still benefit the ground?
@FarmTheoryNI11 күн бұрын
Still does a lot, means you can get on with fert sooner also

Grass cut wet never dries the same, grass cut dry and gets rain after is a better scenario
@rpark826512 күн бұрын
I’d disagree, grass that has dried and then gets wet has a poor fermentation. In a multi cut system with lighter crops far better to cut wet grass ,ted it out and pick up.Its also a good tactic if you use contractors and want to get ahead of the queue.

The thing is you will always have good silage if the pit is sealed properly

Do u graze between 4 th and 1st cut would dead material affect quality
@FarmTheoryNI11 күн бұрын
Nope, doesn't seem to matter.

To get 3 cuts over 11.8 ME is very impressive especially with longer intervals than 35 days! Whats the secret to getting such high ME even when cutting when cloudy? Surely not all additive?
@FarmTheoryNI11 күн бұрын
How it's managed in the pit. Well compacted and yes, the ecosyl. We get a super fast and efficient fermention

Should you not put out some lime and rise your PH above 6.5 to get better use from your nutrients?
@FarmTheoryNI11 күн бұрын
Yeah, that's my plan. My target was to low at 6 and urea has been sore on my pH

Did You buy the second fert spreader ?
@FarmTheoryNI11 күн бұрын
I did yes, it was very very good

Your 2nd cut. Obviously disproves the theory of cutting on a sunny day after lunch when the sugar is up ???
@FarmTheoryNI11 күн бұрын
Yeah, I don't do that anymore. It's a myth from a little bit of truth

It could but they wouldn't be any use.

How many ltrs of water per tonne do you apply with your additive
@FarmTheoryNI11 күн бұрын
1.5 usually. Sometimes down to 1
