So if I understand correctly, what is known today as the St. Brigid's cross was actually made out of rushes for Imbolc long before Christianity? Meaning the "cross" was originally associated with the goddess Brigid, only later becoming associated with the saint?

Saint Brigid used the symbol of the Goddess Brigid (after whom she was named) to promote Christianity. She was Abbess of Kildare. According to tradition, her mother was a Christian slave owned by her father, who was a chieftain.

I have a question. Is Saint Bridgid`s day to commemorate Saint Bridgid or someone else?
@Clodaghbob
@Clodaghbob 9 ай бұрын
Saint Brigid’s day commemorates Saint Brigid, who is one of the three patron saints of Ireland (Saint Patrick, Saint Brigid and Saint Colmcille). As of 2023 it is now a public holiday in Ireland.

I mean Brigid knew the man was pagan. She could've made the cross that way to get his attention since crosses were heavily associated with Jesus. I dunno, what do you guys think lmao? Because I actually think this is the most believable St. Brigid story out there.
@Clodaghbob
@Clodaghbob 9 ай бұрын
The traditional belief is that she deliberately wove a cross to help in his conversion before he died.
@krisfawcett6119
@krisfawcett6119 7 ай бұрын
Okay, but the Christians believe in a Trinity - Father, Son, Holy Ghost. Doesn't it make more sense if Brighid had been weaving a three-armed cross, rather than the standard four-armed version? This has always puzzled me.
@Clodaghbob
@Clodaghbob 7 ай бұрын
@@krisfawcett6119 Eh no, the cross (representing Christ’s crucifix) has always been the symbol of Christianity in Ireland - and many other places around the world. The symbol of the Holy Trinity is the shamrock (because of its three leaves) which was first used by Saint Patrick, patron saint of Ireland. Saint Brigid was about 10 when Saint Patrick died but it is believed that she did hear him preach when she was a child, so she would have been well aware of the symbolism of the shamrock.
@krisfawcett6119
@krisfawcett6119 7 ай бұрын
@@Clodaghbob So perhaps the three-armed cross references the shamrock, which symbolizes the Trinity.
@Clodaghbob
@Clodaghbob 7 ай бұрын
@@krisfawcett6119 There are no three-armed crosses. Life’s too short for that kind of unnecessary complication!😁 Irish families across the country used to weave the Saint Brigid’s cross. They’re easy to make. You cut the rushes, dry them, weave them (with four arms), tie off each arm, and clip off any scruffy bits. There’s no need to ‘reference’ the shamrock when you can walk into the nearest field and collect a bowl of the stuff. The concept of the Trinity is not the first thing that new converts are taught. The crucifixion and resurrection are first and foremost. They are the cornerstone of Christianity, hence all the crosses. P.S. There are also woven fertility symbols in honour of the Goddess Brigid.

“On his death bed” eye opening, as I came to the understanding or onward focus of searching for a goddess that held “Irish” traits after a dream intervention at an extremely low state of charge.

@@Scar-jg4bn Although you think that, missionaries traveled far and wide to preach the gospel as St. Patrick did for Ireland to teach them, Ireland passed abortion, all the Irish babies are now like western babies, slaughtered, that is going backwards.
