Today I ramble on about why I bought my 2004 F150 Fx4, the story, it's story, and what's to come of it in the future should it stay running... It's been a great truck, but you should never buy a 2004-2010 Triton 5.4l 3valve V8! More to come soon.

I love my 07 F150. Has the 5.4L Triton 3V and have not had any real issues with it. Paid 8k cash for it two years ago and its still under 150k miles. Very young for its age. These trucks get a bad rep due to poor ownership but these trucks are still actively on the road as work trucks and they still look good. You are right about these trucks looking newer than what they are. I love the body style. I wish Ford would remake this truck with newer modern features.

If you are a good mechanic that can replace the timing system, oil pump, roller followers, and exhaust manifolds, this is a good truck. 200K on mine, and it's still running strong! Add to this list of necessary repairs replacement of the rear window seal.

Great comment! I'm debating replacing the timing system, but at the same time casually looking for a lower mileage engine to do it to and then swap with a new trans... I've got 205k and if not for the ticking the truck is in great shape and still drives excellent. Funny you mention the rear window seal... just noticed mine started leaking!

Yeah, I have head nightmare stories of the 3v 5.4l I have a 2v and it has its issues but for the most part I have figured it out. Cool video tho running through the story of the truck and real owner experiences. Lot of times you just get the mechanics point of view. Keep it up 👍

Dude, the 5.4 2v is a great motor! I just saw one (a 2001) a few days ago with 430,000miles! Biggest thing on them is the spark plugs. The 3valve on the other hand...

Oh nice! That sounds like a great deal! I've loved this truck; probably the only vehicle I'll be sad to see go when I do sell it. That should last you a long time with just 115k - I now have 205k. Biggest thing on these is regular oil changes every 3,000miles. That will help you avoid sludge & prolong the cam phaser / timing system life. Other than that and all the regular maintenance and you should be good to go!

@@MalikBaggz Haha, I bought it before I did any research & also got scared after I started to learn about them. Maybe I'm just lucky but I've had less trouble in 5years with my 5.4l than I have had with any other vehicle. Now that it's higher in miles its starting to have major issues, but you've got a lot of years of driving before you're there. For $2,800 you could sell it and probably make some good money, but at the same time what would you get to replace it? For that price I would just hang on to it until you feel like you need to upgrade (hopefully things will be cheaper then) or until you start having trouble with it. A nice truck with a locked up motor is still selling for about $3k right now, which is crazy. Treat it right and it should do the same for you!

@@natestrucks2824 yeah I hate to sell its definitely a nice truck for an 2004. I plan on just driving it to work back an forth only no traveling. The guy I brought it from said it need some engine work, but he didn’t seem sure what was wrong with it. Honestly the truck look like it was sitting for years! I’m thinking about getting a Dodge Ram 1500 hemi next considering pickup!

@@paulsherer8496 Awesome! I lost the original alternator right as I pulled into the driveway getting home from a 500mile trip. Replaced it and a buddy borrowed the truck to jump his car, crossed the leads, and shorted it out 2,500miles later... only it didn't die until I was on the highway. Then replaced it with a bad one from the parts store, so had to remove it and replace it again a 3rd time. Haha

Awesome! They are really nice trucks. Do you know of any work that's been done to it? I'm really debating selling or fixing mine so it will go another 200,000 miles. It would be nice to get something newer, but in this market it makes sense dumping the $7,000 into a new engine. Mods: The biggest thing I wish I had done was replaced the factory radio with a nice double din touch screen and put a back-up camera kit into the tailgate handle. Super easy to do and well worth the $300 - these trucks are so hard to tell how close you are to stuff when backing up. I wish I had done a leveling kit to mine when I first got it - especially with the ranch hand that front end is low. That's all about looks and what you like. I also wish I had wired my front light bar into an actual switch in the dash and not just use with the remote. I still might do all those things, especially if I decide to keep it. I also love the adhesive light bar under the tailgate. It helps cars behind you see you're braking & turning a lot better for safety & it looks good. Wish I had hardwired that and not just plugged it into the 4pin trailer connector - corrosion has now ruined that.

That is so weird. Some Ford paint wasn't great, some seems to last forever. As for the 4.6l it seems to last longer generally than the 5.4l, but I don't understand why if it's practically the same engine. Must be the differences in the block that really change things.
