Daimler took over Chrysler, raided Chrysler's $7 billion in cash, crashed the stock, and sold Chrysler for a "loss" (on paper). It was the most egregious act of corporate raiding in history.

Lee I acocca probably orchestrated the whole thing considering he hired a GM guy to run the company who then sold it to Daimler Benz.

They nearly destroyed Mitsubishi at the same time as well.. and vetoed an amazing car Chrysler engineers had designed, the Chrysler ME 412.. it's very nice looking, would have been better then any Mercedes performance wise and way cheaper.

In the early 1920s Walter P. Chrysler reorganized and saved Willys from bankruptcy which eventually produced the Jeep and in 1986 Chrysler under Lee Iacocca bought out AMC which had acquired the remains of Willys from Kaiser which by that time owned the Jeep brand.

Well I guess that explains why my '93 Lebaron Convertible I had as a kid came stock with a Mitsubishi 3.0 V6 in it... Swear to God that 'lil ragtop had the fastest 0-90 acceleration of any other vehicle I've ever owned.. didn't go much past that tho, topped her out at just 105 mph, but compared to my V8 Tbird and even my 96 Stang she was by far the quickest getting there.. lol kinda miss that old car..it was fun building her back up from the heap she was when I found her.. good times with a good teacher, my uncle mark..

The dodge / Plymouth colt was also a Mitsubishi built "imported for dodge" car for about 15 years.. the started working together in 1972 I believe.. actually odd the video didn't mention that.

eh no...that sadly isn't true. Of all the FCA brands it was dodge and fiat that were running on profit, fiat literally BOUGHT chrysler and chrysler hasn't been making any particularly new models since. Then PSA was and is hugely succesful in europe, south america, africa and even does better in australia and japan than any american brand...not to mention they bought opel from GM and made it have its first profit in over two decades...so plz, don't go throwing around that BS
@manuelsmiley7125
@manuelsmiley7125 Жыл бұрын
@@TheChill001 LMAO, you mean to tell me you didn't know? Barack Obama GAVE CHRYSLER away to Fiat basically for Free. Fiat had no money in 2009 to purchase Chrysler, it was the US government loan of 12 billion dollars that saved Chrysler AND Fiat because Fiat was struggling financially. When I say Chrysler, I'm talking about the entire company that makes Chrysler-Dodge-Jeep products. It's was Chrysler's profits that Fiat used to purchase the rest of Chrysler in 2014 Because Fiat couldn't afford to buy the company with it's own cash because it had no cash. During the FCA YEARS, Chrysler was the one making 90% of the profits because Fiat and it's cheap low margin vehicles and NON SELLING Maserati and Alfa Romeo's could not compete with the profits Chrysler-Dodge-Jeep-RAM consistently brought to the table. The only reason FCA Was FORCED to merge with Peugeot is because they GAMBLED 5 PLUS BILLION dollars on Alfa Romeo and it failed miserably. It was Chrysler's profits and government loans that saved Fiat.

The connection with Mitsubishi probably should have been mentioned, they worked together for decades, atarting around 1972.. with the dodge / Plymouth Colt, at some points also sold as Mitsubishi mirage, Plymouth lazer / eagle talon (eclipse), dodge stealth Mitsubishi 3000gt... Plus Mitsubishi engines in multiple cars and a shared plant called diamond star motors... Also Daimler sadly almost destroyed Mitsubishi at the same time it had Chrysler.

Chrysler was hired at GM by the Vice President of the Buick Division: Charles W. Nash. Nash's auto companies, unlike Chrysler, never went bankrupt. Nash saved GM and went on to buy the Jeffries company and changed the name to Nash Motors. Chrysler was a terrific manager and he made some great cars. He gets a lot of credit and much of it well deserved. Nash, who was a better manager, saved GM from bankruptcy and built cars with many innovations still used today. Nash's contribution to the industry is often ignored.

Chrysler did not invent the wind tunnel. The Wright Brothers were using them as early as 1901. In fact, the first wind tunnel was designed and built around 1870, by the English inventor Francis Wenham.

My grandfather drove a Chrysler. It was with great pride that one day I was able to purchase a brand new one. What’s the story about a man and his NEW boat, and the second best day of his life??? Well, the BEST Day of my life was when I had it towed to the Ford dealership for a trade-in.

It's sad to see what once was a pillar of automotive excellence get diluted, filtered and scavenged until it is no more that a word on paper. "Chrysler" doesn't mean anything anymore. The guys sporting their tough Ram trucks.. Yeah they're nice trucks. They look good. But hell, they're not even Dodges. They dropped the "Dodge" on their trucks. Now it's just "Ram" A Fiat Ram. "Fix It Again, Tony!" Then there's Jeep... Oh how they ruined pillaged, shamed, and dishonored that name.. It was a tough, capable little utility vehicle that fought in wars. Beloved by those who just want a reliable, simple yet sturdy and effective off-roader. (the Willys and CJ jeeps) Now what once was CJ, is no more that a glorified minivan with 4 doors (4 too many), their heated seats, automatic everyfuckingthing, Non-removable roofs and doors, baby-chair hook-ups and a 'roided up appearance. Mostly driven by soccer moms on dry pavement while a DVD plays Paw Patrol on endless repeat on their way to the nail salon from the daycare center. Then some have the gall, the nerve to put a "Willy's" Sticker on the damn things.. Oh the gore, the indecency, the abuse of the dead.. *pukes* R.I.P. Jeep. 1941 - 1987. I think I have one of the last (in my understanding) true Mopars. A Dodge, made by THE Chrysler corporation before it died and it's rotting corpse got brutalized and cannibalized by foreign companies. I drive a Dodge. A Mopar. A Product of Chrysler. Not a Diamler. Not a Fiat. Not a gawdam Stalantis or WTF ever the marque is being used by this month. Next month it'll probably be owned by some Hooflungpoo company from West Taiwan slicing out their own little hunk of the cadaver..

This is completely incorrect towards the end. Pretty much from the 1970 period forward to present is completely inaccurate. Please check your sources. When Iacocca was brought to Chrysler (specifically to right the sinking ship) he sought loans from the government. Further the merger with AMC was specifically so that Chrysler could gain access to the keep brand who already had the Cherokee and Grand Cherokee (the latter under development) . You need to be more specific in why the Germans decided to acquire Chrysler and essentially lying by calling it a merger of equals to sell it to the company and the American public/stockholders. When in fact all Daimler wanted was the cash that Chrysler was hoarding from actually selling cars. Also, the information center on its last financial crisis resulting from Daimler siphoning off all the cash, products and development dollars for their own benefit, and the Cerberus capital furthering the companies near death experience. The government, at the request of the industry GM, Chrysler & Ford was bailed out again and basically gave the company to fiat with the promise to pay back the loan they were given from Tarp and the direct bail out funds. Fixing the end of this “tube history” would greatly improve its accuracy.
