So glad to see the MLP histories series continue- I love the idea of someone doing these breakdowns of the insane lore people came up with for background ponies in the early days. You could probably make a whole miniseries on the lore people came up with for changelings in the season 2-3 days.

Doctor Whooves actually had a more significant role in the My Little Pony Manga (especially in Volume 2), where an alternate version of himself and "Muffins" (aka Derpy's now canon name) are in fact time-travellers who travel in a giant muffin with an interior that resembles the TARDIS from the 1980s, and their story arc involves them going up against "Professor When", a nod to the Doctor's arch nemesis, The Master (basically the Moriarty to The Doctor's Sherlock Holmes). Oh, and Pinkie Pie is there too.

Time Turner could be a reference to the time traveling device from Harry Potter with the same name. In the MLP manga series, which is about as canon as the comics, there is explicitly a version of Dr. Whooves and Derpy who travel in a giant muffin version of the TARDIS. They save Pinkie from a universe where the rainbow muffin prank wasn't a prank but an actual zombie outbreak.

The references for the Doc in the show are honestly pretty great. The blue "Doctor" is more associated with the Master, not sure if you know who that is. Sorta the Doctor's old best friend turned regular enemy and rival. And the 100th episode Doctor wearing 3D Glasses with Rose Luck is pretty heavy handed. The doctor wore those glasses just shortly before he lost Rose as a companion. As for the Twilight ship, I think that was prevalent during Ten-Too Era and early Eleven. When the Doctor had his rambling phase, a trait Twilight shared as well.

Twilight being one of Whooves' companions is actually quite interesting, as she'd be quite a foil to what is (normally) an eccentric character while working well with his more intellectual aspects; Pinkie, on the other -hoof- hand, would be the more eccentric of the two, such that Whooves would be the one keeping up with her and whatever shenanigans she gets them into, while Derpy fits into the more typical, Straight-Man blank slate type of companion to learn along the way, albeit with more of a twist than usual. Either way, the fans sure know how to pick 'em.

That makes me think of Adric or Romana from doctor who, specifically Romana most accurately because she is more logical while still being on par with the doctor, as in being the same species and intelligence if not more than him.

Funny enough, Whooves here is one of the main reasons I knew about Doctor Who but never got into it until years later. He's still one of my favorite background ponies despite not fully knowing his origins of "lmao he looks like David Tennant and his cutie mark is an hourglass!". One of my favorite MLP animations IS the one where Whooves cites the rules for when he was human aka 10's rules to Martha when he had to become John Smith.

In Starlight episode where she searches for new staff for friendship school, one of the candidates is Dr. Hooves who literally shows device and refers to "TIME TRAVEL!" Dr. Hooves also features in an adventure book for River Horse Game's Tails of Equestria: The Storytelling Game. In "The Curious Case of the Malfunctioning P.R.A.N.C.E.R." Dr. Hooves sends the players on a mission to test his new time machine, the Pony Relocator Astral Navigation Chronomatic Engine Rig (PRANCER for short). The full title of the adventure expansion is The Curious Case of the Malfunctioning P.R.A.N.C.E.R. and Other Tales, and includes six adventures in all. The book was published in 2019 and is still at this time available from River Horse Games. EDIT: You might even want to try your local library system.

Probably some pony already pointed out, but I think we get much more doctor who references in slice of life. There, Doc Hooves says: great wickeling stallions, something similar to a doctor who sentence and we also see him with a suit, a bow and later with a scarf. So these are references to the 10th, 11th and 4th Doctor. Also, we don't see where he lives, we just see the place where he's got his wibbly wobbly science stuff. (okay, that point is even in the video...) Maybe it's in the ponified tardis. I would love that. To summarize: of course it's not official, but I do believe that Doctor (W)Hooves is the ponified version of the Doctor. Maybe he lost his time traveling powers, or he just try to blend in with the rest of ponies in Ponyville. Who knows. And this is something that the show does best: it leaves enough interpretive space so fans can produce fancontent. (e.g. Stuart Hall on Cultural Studies - I believe it was Hall) But according to my point, there is one big question: the Doc is Doctor Who, Rose is Rose Tyler. Which Pony represents Donna Noble (Spoiler: Doctor Donna)? And which the Master?

There's also Doctor Whooves: Living Legacy by Tone Shift and others, where it's actually Tick Tock, a regular ol' pony that was visited by the actual Doctor once and got sort of imparted with the latter's memories and regeneration abilities; his companion is Lyra Heartstrings. There was also Doctor Whooves The Great, where it is the Doctor who got into the pony universe and became a pony, and his companion is Trixie. And, lastly, for now, there is The Chronicles of Doctor Whooves, which is very new, so not sure about the Doctor's origins there yet; the new companion is Amethyst Star.

There’s definitely something interesting going on with time travel in the MLP, it’s definitely strange that multiple ponies have the same time related cutie mark while Doctor Hooves clearly being interested in time travel, maybe there’s some sort of TVA equivalent because they know what could happen if someone messed with, it would also explain why he laughed at the idea of time travel.

Drepy is the objectively most interesting and unique of the background ponies, and that makes her the best to the point that even in canon, she's a great example of the Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass/Memetic Badass trope. However, my favorite will always be Dr. Whooves. Now, I am not a fan of Dr. Who, but even I have fallen in love with some of that older Dr. Whooves content, most notably Camaderie is Supernatural and Minty Fresh Adventure, the former of which has Whooves team up with Pinkamena, the latter of which has Whooves and Minuette/Colgate/Romana having the option of partnering up as a relevant Easter Egg. I have grown to appreciate the more subtle and calmer moments of My Little Pony's official and fanon media, but when I got into the fandom, I was always more intrigued by the action-packed content, from the Season 4 finale of the show, to Fighting is Magic and its M.U.G.E.N. adaptations, to the whole concept of Dr. Whooves. And as much as Whooves was originally meant to be more along the lines of Sepia Tock, much like almost every other background pony in Season 1, now he's been more adapted as the Doctor of MLP in the comics: It all culminates in Volume 1 of A Day in the Life of Equestria, which crutches on Pinkie's accidental dimension-hopping, Dr. Whooves and Derpy working together to stop her from causing any more irreparable damage, and the canon Whooves remarking, "I'm somewhat of a scientist, myself." He's come a long way, and I love that.

I was SO into Lovestruck Derpy back in middle school and Doctor Whooves and Assistant back then. It was a perfect mix of my Doctor Who and MLP obsession back then. I was such a fan girl over this stuff that I used to talk in Derpy's dub voice (not my proudest moment lol). It was a cringe time but it was very fun like all of the other Brony stuff from this era. While I do find this topic very interesting, I can't help but disagree with you on a vast majority. Comic dubs, Tumblr dubs and especially audio dramas were very popular during the height of My Little Pony. So saying it's cringe, especially since it was well made during the time, is a little unneeded. Also with the BaldDumboRat controversy, there is literally no evidence of whatever they are being accused of. The poster of that reddit post even said that the only source they found of it was very untrustworthy. I don't exactly see the reason why it was included if there wasn't any research into such conclusion. And arguably the Pinky pie ship does make sense due to her being so fourth wall breaking and fun that it pairs well to the Doctors confusedness in the new world he's in. But that can also be up to debate as well so I don't exactly mind your thoughts on it. I would also like to say that this could be a bit more thorough. I do very much appreciate the clips of him in show and even the comics, I wish there was more of an emphasis on just how influential this character was! I mean dozens of Tumblr ask blogs and so many KZbin series. Not to mention Discord Whooves! It has a big impact still! Now I don't mind you being critical! Cynicism is important but I found some comments that were just unjustified or don't contribute to your analysis.

I also do appreciate the work that went into fandubs and stuff, but can you really blame me for finding someone doing a cutesie uwu voice about crushing on a pony to be a little cringe? Also, going on BaldDumboRat’s ED page showed some really disgusting drawings that the individual made, plus other “interesting” information, so I thought it’d be a worthy footnote when talking about the context of the creator of the blog. As for Discord Whooves and stuff, I thought that was worth its own video in the future, so I left that out lol. Once again, I’m not saying I’m 100% right and you’re 100% wrong. A lot of this is based on opinion and not really a Doctor Whooves breakdown of his involvement in the fandom. It should be call "thoughts of" cause this really isn't anything but just surface level opinions and break downs of what his surface level contribution for the series was. The audio dramas were really big contribution to that, and to be glossed over like an annoying stain on the fandoms history? It was the early 2010's everyone was in their "cringe" era. When going over the audio drama's you just commented on the animation, which isn't even made by the people who made the audio dramas. Please think about when doing this series to just be MLP thoughts on fandom or so on. Cause calling it MLP history and the story of Doctor Whooves, isn't accurate when It's only opinions. cause you're giving the impression that the video is going to be informative and not opinion based. Just a constructive criticism for you and future videos.
