I really like the potential of Xenoverse. Make a custom avatar, travel through time, and fix any alternative timelines. My problem is that like you said, most of the fights are just “this guy’s stronger than he’s supposed to be”. Imagine this same game but with Budokai and Budokai Tenkaichi type “what if?” scenarios. Absolutely bonkers, random-a$$ storylines that you have to somehow correct. Like what if Cell killed Gohan instead of Trunks? What if Bardock managed to raise a Saiyan army to fight Frieza? Things like that would be much more interesting to deal with.

The best part of the story was when the army of Metal Coolers suddenly invaded during the Cell Games! It actually felt like a whacky, ridiculous use of the time travel plot. Most of the story drastically under-utilized the concept.

I actually disagree since it felt sort of random and completely unrelated to anything going on in the main plot? In fact most of the other characters barely acknowledge it. I'd say the more interesting concept in XV2 was Turles going around manipulating situations in a way that felt true to his character and working with Slug but then they just killed them off before there could be any interesting consequence. That's the crux of the issue is that so many of the "What-if's" is that theres no interesting consequences from any of the changes even when they logically should change even when you deal with the problem

While I enjoyed the game, I absolutely agree with the idea that this game isn’t nearly as creative as it should be. Having a scenario where Krillin’s death at the hands of Frieza is prevented would’ve been far Cooler than “oh no, Frieza is arbitrarily stronger than originally so you have to go kick his teeth in”. Time travel is a cool reason to mess with the actual order of events not to awkwardly force the player to go through the events of Z again with slight changes that were made in the first game.

the thing is going through Z with slight changes, i think its okay for Xenoverse1. its a new concept (if you dont consider db online) and its an unproven game. best be safe, i get that. but xenoverse 2 had no right to play it that safe. could have done some crazy what ifs. like what if gohan survived in the future but trunks died. stuff like that. just go really nuts with the story

Xenoverse 2's main story is pretty lackluster, but I genuinely think some of the latter DLC story stuff, like the Infinite Story and the current Future Saga are genuinely so fun and creative, especially with the way Infinity Story can branch out into different scenarios if you bring a specific master (a personal favorite is Ginyu throwing a wrench in the Zero Mortals Plan in Super by just body swapping Goku Black).

They don't have the rights to connect DB Heroes to Xenoverse 2 even though they are technically related to each other, even more so with DBOnline, that may change now with the new deals on what the games can and can't use with the legal battles over copyrights, but we can't be sure.

@Demonically_Inspired actually no, they can't write around it, specially when the same publisher owns both the studio that made Heroes and the Studio that made Xenoverse and wont bring both studios together to try and make a crossover happen between what was essentially an arcade game till recently and a multiplatform game, they can't by any amount use anything Heroes as created or done, in fact they can only use stuff shown in the official animes (aka. OG DB, DBZ, DBGT, DBS and movies), Heroes also falls under this rule but it took its premise to a more wider level. At least that is until currently where it us rumored that all DB games might get a clear green light to using most if not all if DB content as inspiration or outright usage in games, we'll have to see

Its not even that. Leaving aside SZ because lets be honest its a game so different from xv2 that it cant truly be compared in a fair fashion. My biggest question is always why would you consider base game of xv2 a sequel. Where most of the stuff just feels like patches that could be added to first game? Hell even the visuals are only a slight upgrade. Some cutscenes use more fx but they arent geeat graphics wise either.

Not me personally but i get the feeling a lot of people are tired with "fixing history" nowadays with Xenoverse and would rather just play in alternate timelines. Xenoberse sorta does it in the Parallel Quests that are pretty much untied to the story, and then later dlc with Fu don't actually take place in the actual timelines but in displaced dimensions separate from them, but the main story got safe since it still had to be connected to the main canon of db.

Maybe it's because I was just naive, but when I heard Xenoverse -- the first one -- was coming out, I was hyped. I thought it would be more RPG like -- you make your character, you get sent back to the past, and you stay there to make sure nothing gets changed because the Timebreakers are trying to change it. Basically, changing the past to keep the past from changing. You're character would be living in that world, a part of the Z fighters, and whenever something went down that wasn't supposed too, your job was to step in and fix it. Vegeta goes SSJ in his fight against Goku? You're job is to defeat him, then to find the Time Breaker responsible and drive them away -- then the Supreme Kai of Time would rewind the timeline back to where it was supposed to be and things would continue as normal, only with an extra Z-Fighter -- you -- in the mix. Instead, we're just an agent getting sent to certain points in the timeline as they get messed up by Towa and Mira, and then we leave -- nobody remembers us no matter how many times we show up, and... it was fine. It was okay. Then Xenoverse 2 came out, and all they really did was redo the first game's story, except make it worse. Things didn't really get good, story wise anyway, for XV2 until the DLC started rolling in and they actually decided to mess around with things, like having Goku and Vegeta turn SSj4 in their fight with Whis, but even then it wasn't anything big. XV has a lot of potential, but for some reason they don't want to actually try to tap into it and really embrace it. We don't get the 'What if Raditz sided with Goku' that the internet loves, or 'What if King Piccolo took over the earth?'. Instead we get 'What if Frieza was stronger?' or 'What if the Metal Cooler showed up all the time, everywhere, no matter how many times you kick his ass?"

I only played over 2000 hours of this game, and the best selling point for me are the super/ultimate skills, transformations that our CAC can use, and infinite possibility of builds that you can use based on super souls. The story might be bland at first, but you can get pretty interesting dialogue, and lore if you talk to npc during certain story arcs. For example one npc foreshadows the events of boss fight with Mira, and other comments on your power levels (there is also love triangle story happening with three characters).

Like i said gameplay wise its good. Unique builds and stuff (even tho most of the playerbase plays saiyans) as far as the lore goes. Npc lore is okay but when the main story is shallow its one of those things where why would a player care about side stories if even the main story doesnt hold their interest you know?

I think the reason why the Xenoverse games look plasticky is because they were modeled after Super Dragon Ball Heroes, which also had plastic-like models at the time. The models are based on what the characters would look like in real life, rather than how they appear in modern anime games. Personally, I don't mind the plastic appearance as it makes the characters look like fighting toys. However, I understand that people have different preferences.

I think that's just the art style they wanted at the time, since that was how most of those games started to look once Raging Blast 2 started it. The XV2 revamp makes the models look significantly better and less metallic because of all that specular shading, though its a lot more tolerable on a transformation

All they are doing is what Trunks did and disrupting the timeline. Maybe I need to watch a video on the bizarre storyline of this game. @@play4keeps77 so this one i know the answer to, apparently since the time patrollers use supereme kai of time's scrolls to time travel and not trunks' time machine. any alterations to the history that are made to correct the damaged timeline apparently just dissolve into nothingness overtime (its how they explain characters not recognizing the player even tho we save them 100 times lol) its still dumb but eh.

Xenoverse was such wasted potential in every way. Terrible basic customization modders made way better in a matter of weeks of work. The story is complete trash, it's just "villain gave big power to another villain in history!" It's hot trash but it's the best we have for having a created character. I hate it but I keep coming back. Edit: that comment on Toriyama's writing is kinda funny considering how Super is nothing but reused stuff. Freeza (twice even.) 'Gohan stopped training and got weak' again (twice also.) Cell. Le evil goku idea. Broly. It's all just recycling. But then again it shows his heart wasn't in it and it was just about the money.

The problem with Xenoverse 2’s story is that felt rushed as hell. It could have more fun story missions, like have Turles actually help Vegeta after he gets his tail cut off, and your job is to keep Gohan alive so he can turn into Oozaru and to finish off Vegeta. Or have Slug try to kill Vegeta after he kills Dedoria. Or have Broly enter the Cell Games instead of Metal Cooler. Or have Janimba break out of hell and try to take out Kid buu, and your job is to take them both out. The movie villains were a cool idea that could have made the story fresh, but they just didn’t wanna do it.

I'm new to XV2 (started in August), still working through the story. I'll agree that more creative scenarios would make things more interesting. I didn't play XV1 so I avoided the deja-vu whiplash experience. The best storytelling moments imo aren't the fights, but the impact that the impetus to uphold history has on Trunks. It's emotional for him to see his beloved mentor and be told he has to let him die. He also watches Majin Vegeta detonate himself, but he's more mentally prepared to stay the course this time. I would say more of THIS kind of story beat would make the story stand out even more than the creative scenario ideas.

Problem is those moments are so few and far between and have no impact. For eg trunks stayinf with gohan is a choice that has no consequences. Compare that to even the main dbz story where even with the best intentions trunks meddling with time led to cell coming

Some random ideas on how to integrate the movie villains into What If scenarios more interesting than Xenoverse 2: Turles: Turles is a member of Vegeta's crew alongside Raditz and Nappa. When Vegeta and Nappa invades Earth, Turles joins them and plants the Tree of Might. Once he eats the tree's fruit, he becomes more powerful than Vegeta and rebels against him, forcing Goku and Vegeta to team up against him. Lord Slug: When the Z-Fighters go to Namek in search of the Dragon Balls, they discover that before Freeza even arrived Lord Slug had conquered the planet and enslaved his own race. Now they have to get the Dragon Balls while trying to avoid a war between two intergalactic tyrants. Cooler: When King Cold and Mecha-Freeza invade Earth in revenge for Freeza's defeat on Namek, they bring Cooler along with him, whose fifth form is powerful enough that he defeats Future Trunks when he shows up. Android 13: Dr. Gero runs away after Android 19 was defeated, but instead of activating Androids 17 and 18 he activates 13, 14 and 15. These Androids unlike 17 and 18 loyally obey his commands resulting in a completely different Android saga.

personally i just wanted more unrelated minigames (or even related minigames) like the budokai games... and a sense of adventure. like the little milk run and turtle training can only keep me so entertained for so long. the games only really fun for me when my pals are online and we roleplay. for further context i do not play fighting games often but LOVE DB so my gripe is a massive personal one, i haven't touched this game since the Goku Black DLC too so idk what's new, I just hwve no reason to play it. my major problem (a personal one) is that im not good at fighting games, so itd be nice if there were minigames or something that slowly teach you how to properly play, or to take a break from all the fighting sweats online. like i know there's the school thing and training section (which ISNT multiplayer what the hell) but i feel we can have more things unrelated to fighting but its done in a subtle way that makes you used to the controls or teaches you proper timing or something. How about exploring these Conton areas! You got them all modeled up. fashion shows that teach you how to look drippy but also gets you more engaged with how the stats work, i know there's that clothing stat machine with Bulma but thats not as engaging (and again because if that i never jnew how to use it or wht it does. maybe if they didn't blurb me with long winded popup text and make it actually engaging I would've used it more). baseball with yamcha (or other minigames inspired by some of the mentors, or just the original Z Fighters, and with the way this game updates and has DLC they could slowly implement more memtor minigames for other characters) that teaches proper button timing. An optional potion making minigame that teaches you how make your Senzu stuff and stat ailment items idk! just more ways to feel engaged with the world of Xenoverse and Conton City. its really hard to explore the maps n stuff too when you got missions, time limits, or NPCs bumrush you, youre even graded on how much time you waste exploring. so i can't get that adventure feel frfr (DB was adventuring at some point yknow...?) just idk ways to improve that isn't offline lab. or just something ELSE to do. I know you gamers live and breathe fighting games but just having something else to do can relieve the stress of it a yknow? struggling with a mission? go play a unrelated minigame. sweats and modders gettin on your nerves? go play an unrelated minigame. just wanna oot up the game andmpkay something else with ur pals' CAC? minigames. It would make the world feel bigger too cus like what are patrollers doing off the clock anyway? minigames like pokemon stadium kind of small fun. and the games size or console limits isn't an excuse either GTA5 online is mad to the brim with minigames and iirc custim games made by players. You have a model for an apartment in Conton, have us make a room for our CAC and it can be where your team or friends can hang with their CAC privately i mean why not, you can show off to ur friends ur items or achievements, really push the mmo / online vibe they were selling back when I first got this game. Actually developing the relationship between you and the mentor (not saying it has to be romantic but itd be funny to have a series of options that push on romantic just to get funny reactions.) like you just.. Talk to them and get Generic Item and some moves most of the time I didnt even realize the friendship meter goes up. Make it more a challenge to the meter can go up or down depending in what you do and how you interract with them (Idk exactly what the meters for besides getting items, its been a while.), make it more a challenge when you interract with villains or arch enemies. This was my first DB game in literal years besides the Budokais just wish a lot of these anime games had fun and actually like be videogames.

Minigames are unfortunately really tricky to do in big titles because in the modern gaming scene most games can barely even get the main game done in time for launch. Extra content isnt even a thought for the devs unless youre a really big name like rockstar

Xenoverse was a really cool idea to make playing the DBZ story for the 500th time more fresh by having outside forces directly intervene in events, I really wish we had more what-ifs so it was more obvious that "uh oh, that's not supposed to happen", rather than the villains just getting power ups. It shares the same nitpick with Sparking Zero's what-ifs where most of them don't explore how changes would affect the future and it's just "what if the villain/hero was defeated early" I mean, the idea is right there with Parallel Quests, where the whole concept is that you need to play out these alternate events in order to keep the flow of time balanced, even helping the villains win in some fragments. The base game could have explored those a lot further, or make that the main story and that's how the Timebreakers mess with history.

Saiyan saga Vegeta going super saiyan in Budokai 1, Broly going to Earth and fighting Goku in Budokai 3, ssj3 Vegeta and Broly from Raging Blast 1 and 2 all are good what ifs I wish we had stuff like that in Xenoverse 2. Anyways I think this games story has a lot of potential with the whole fixing time stuff but it ends up just being slightly different dbz ft your OC when it could be really interesting if it embraced the what ifs. Even just having to help one the villains sometimes would act a lot to the game, adding a bit of moral ambiguity and showing that your job really is protecting the timeline and not being a Z fighter with a time travel gimmick. At least some of the DLC does interesting stuff (thanks Fu) which hopefully means a hypothetical xeno 3 would have a better story. I also kinda wish that the game had a bit more going on with the CaC in the story, like giving us more dialogue options even if they ultimately don't have an effect on the plot and maybe different races could act different during cutscenes. I mean it's the main appeal of the game so I think it would be cool but maybe that's too much.

The one problem I have with the story is that the Time Breakers always do stuff that helps the villains. Might sound stupid or there might be a reason that I missed, but if the idea is to change stuff to gather magic, why not make Goku able to beat Freeza in base forcing you to help Freeza, or Turles help against Raditz forcing you to act like the "bad guy" and kill Goku so he can train with King Kai? Or why not have Janemba take the place of Buu as the awoken Majin, forcing you to first beat him but then break the soul cleansing machine so Buu can be born, then bring him in the past to the fight with the Supreme Kais to make sure the events go like in the original? Better yet, why not make changes that only have a signicant snowball effect way later on but that are hard to initially find, like having the Masked Saiyan kill Goku in his sleep right before the Cell games and then seal away Cell: the change would mostly be there in the Buu arc, but the Time Patrol would have to check a lot because realistically who would look at the scroll of a random night before the Cell games if the problem is that everyone is too weak in the Buu arc? Also, just use the GT characters, for example (and this is the most boring, obvious and unoriginal concept I can think of that uses GT characters) say that when getting to the Time Nest Towa jumbled up the scrolls and now Beerus awakens at the Shadow Dragons arc right before SSJ4 Gogeta, nullifies the negative energy from Omega Shenron and then makes the Saiyans perform the God ritual, but after going God Goku charges up and becomes a SSJ4 again because that form is so strong by itself that if God Ki is added it's actually leagues above the unmastered SSJGod, and after the SKoT fixes the scrolls you have to take with you the excess Beerus, Whis and the God Ki GT Goku (who is now adult again) because they are too strong for you to just beat, explaining why you get Goku so late as a master and how Whis Gi Goku can teach you the Kamehameha×10, it's that Goku now training with "GT Whis".

The concept is outdated now, instead they should let us live in the the new possibilities instead of being time patrollers, just think about it... You enter the world of DragonBall... Either as Namekien living on planet namek, prior to Frieza invasion, as an alien under the renowned Frieza force... Or Live as a Cold member?? A saiyan being sent to worlds to conquer? Or how about an earthling... Training under either the turtle banner or part of the red ribbon army? You see these possibilities are much more exciting than reliving the canon story of Goku... If your actions shift the balance of the canon story... You may encounter a time patrol... This can make it so much more immersive than the garbage we've been fed over and over

Xv2 supposedly wasnt meant to happen at all. If we can believe the stories xv2 only happened after the reveal to the public against higher ups orders. But considering that xv2 came very shortly after xv1 was released it sounds plausible. Heck if it had more time im sure the story could have been much better. Some parts like when cooler shows up at both namek and the cell games were great twists and felt exciting on old stories. Unfortunately the base game doesnt have a lot of good changes storywise and it should be treated more of a xv1 2.0 aka gameplay updates only. Dlc content is much more interesting but their level requirements make them so damn grindy. Also most of those are pretty forgettable and how you access them or the order of accessing them tends to confuse ppl.

Finally, somebody who agrees with what I had been saying for years. XV2 had soooo much potential, but due to tight development time, low budget and the directors playing things WAY too safe, it came out feeling more like the complete version of XV1 rather than a proper sequel. The what if scenarios in particular were so bland and uninspired. When Fu came out they gave us good stuff, though I'm not too fond of how his story is turning out now as it feels like Monster of the week, but when he was first introduced into the game and you could choose so many branching paths, THAT is what the whole of XV2 SHOULD have been. A bunch of wacky and nonsensical what if scenarios starring our oc. Honestly the main story was so boring that I lost interest half way through.
