I love Encore. To me it feels like an artist at the peak of their career/celebrity and not knowing what to do. It’s all over the place with lots of darkness in there, more so than his other stuff. The blue album cover and title just fits so perfectly. I listened to the whole thing again recently and realized how high I rank the album. I love all the silly songs too. Big Weenie and Rain Man are some of my favorite Eminem songs

Good video but there's a few errors: 1. Encore was not the peak of Em's drug addiction. 2007 was, when he overdosed on methadone pills. 2. 5 songs didn't leak, it was 7, with 4 of them being intended for the album. Evil Deeds never leaked. 3. When I'm Gone was written last-minute for Curtain Call in 2005. There's no source for the March 2004 claim and was added by an anonymous editor many years ago.

I was in 7th grade when this album dropped. I listened to the entire album for the first time on Wild 94.9 here in the Bay Area a day before the album dropped. This premiere was obviously heavily censored since it was premiered on radio, but I remember being a little let down with the long string of goofy songs on it. Still went and picked it up on day one. As a 7th grader, every song on the album (except Mosh, I skipped it every time) grew on me. Im also from the hood, and I can confirm, the hood kids at my school LOVED Just Lose It. The Pee Wee Herman sounds really had us dyin. The album artwork really spoke to me. The fact that he put “to my fans, im sorr.” Bro didn’t even completely say sorry to us 😂😂😂 I totally understood, this album is dam near career suicide, and especially judging by how he had a gun in his mouth on the CD tray insert. How surprised I was to see a gun behind his back the first time I opened the CD case. I can honestly say, Encore is the album that made me look deeper into album booklet artwork. The Encore booklet had such a message in it. A devastating message if you were as much of a fan as I was.

Funny you mentioning the radio being your first experience with the album. My parents cautiously got a 10 year old me encore censored after I got into my dad's "trifecta" copies. He doesn't really like rap and generally just purchased based on singles/music videos, so I assume he got SS and MM at the same time first after Stan and then got ES. I sneaked recordings of the cds with a tape recorder so I could listen to them whenever. Needless to say, I wasn't as enthused with the lazy censoring just breaking up the flow of everything and the goofy, explicit songs could just not be followed with all the cuts. I thought Encore was just okay. I was also kind of too young and disconnected to know about the news circus and the narrative of encore. 5 Years later listening to the uncensored version made me appreciate the album a lot more and songs like Never Enough clicked for me once you could actually listen to the entire song.

I agree When I'm Gone (one of Eminem's other classics) should have gone on there. Had it gone on there with Mockingbird and Like Toy Soldiers, it might have been enough to make fans forgive the rest of the tracks. Remember, Encore was released before the days of streaming. So unlike Revival, they would have heard all the tracks (yes I think Revival had some good, even great tracks on it. Castle and Arose being two). Also, I always thought Bully was meant for something else. You could tell way more effort had been put into the mix than the other disses. Man that's a shame, imagine that had been the Benzino and Ja diss on the album instead of Big Weenie. A very serious track where, not unlike Like Toy Soldiers, he's reflecting on everything and saying things could well get violent. Had those tracks not leaked, it could well have been a very different album and maybe we would never have got Em back. Great video.

I only just got into Eminem (and rap in general) in early 2024. My partner showed me Music to be Murdered By and I liked it, so they had me borrow Curtain Call so I can get a taste of the Slim Shady era. After giving it a listen on the ride home, I went through his first four albums and loved them. For some reason, Encore stuck with me for the first few months. Rain Man, Big Weenie and Just Lose It were THE songs I had on repeat for a couple weeks. Something about the funny and unserious attitude of those songs stuck out to me. Looking back on the "Slim Shady Era", I think Marshall Mathers LP is the best one, with Way I Am being my favorite track. The way he has this tough-guy voice the entire song except at the end of the chorus really emphasizes how he's not what the media makes him out to be. It's a phenomenal song that needs more love.

Also I feel like ‘When I’m Gone’ was left off because having it on the same record as “Mockingbird” was too redundant. Another thing that came to mind after 13:00 was the track "Darkness" on Side A of Music to be Murdered By. If only the record started as strong as it ended… but I DO love Evil Deeds even if he repeats himself in that first bit. You cannot deny that beat is insane. It's incredible how Eminem wanted to sabotage his career once and for all here, right after finally gaining public and critical recognition with TES and 8 mile, he earned the RESPECT he craved as a lyricist, even in the black community. Then he does "Just Lose It" where he humiliates Michael Jackson in as many ways as possible, be it literally vomiting on him, making fun of the Pepsi advice incident in his hair, his nose plastic surgery and his accusations of ped0..then the joke insists on mocking Christopher Reeves, who was considered an eternal icon in America for being the classic SUPERMAN and a hero in the hearts of children in the 70s/80s (including Marshall himself). Encore was definitely the lowest point in EM's career, but it has excellent production, which makes even the worst tracks interesting.

I love this whole documentary not explain the album but also learning why Em did these things. Now you can appreciate the album more.

The major leak that happened is what ruined Encore.. We As Americans, Love You More, Doe Rae Me, and Stimulate leaked so he had to throw together some goofy shit asap

I honestly really like encore. I liked the idea of his last show being in front of phony rich people and that he couldn't take it anymore and stopped. My favorite song on that album is actually Encore. Hearing now that most of the Songs I've Always hated being puke, rain man, my first single, ass like that and big weenie were last second drug induced additions.

I liked the album. There were a few tracks that didn't hit, but overall, there's something great about it. Maybe it's when it came out. That's when I started really listening to em, so it definitely has nostalgia value for me. I wouldn't put it in my top 5 eminem albums but when I rate his albums, there's not much between them tbh. They all tell their own individual story. People love to say that eminems music has no content but when you look at his career, his entire catalogue of music is telling a story. He says TDOSS is a conceptual album but I think his entire catalogue when listened to in order does the same. He really is the GOAT imo.

AWESOME video, dude! I took my time with this all day, jumping back and forth from watching your video segments to listening to each track individually! Great research and delivery! 👊🏼 Btw, to answer your final question, I think Encore is far from being his worst. Relapse is my least favorite. Would love to watch your take on that album! 🙌🏼

This comment sections is the perfect example that Stans will love anything Eminem puts out. Eminem can put out a song where he raps like he has Down syndrome and not saying any real words, just mumbling and grunts, and stans will still find a way to say it’s a genius song and he’s a goat

Great video for sure however in my opinion encore is very much one of his best albums despite leaks, critics, silly songs, etc. The entire concept of it was just so good

Literally no idea where you get this it was suppose to be his last album… it was never going to be his last album it wasn’t even announced as his final album even with that clip at the beginning he’s never said the album was suppose to be his last

I actually LOVED encore and specifically the funny songs that it seems like everyone hated. Worth noting - I was 13 when that album dropped and the rain man tangent about football being gay was just peak comedy for me, and seeing as I was dealing with an older sister with a boy band obsession, puke felt like a great middle finger as it was lampooning those kinda of artists in a gross way. It felt like encore was loaded with these silly songs that had been the thing I liked most about Eminem as a kid. I think if you look at the album as a pure entertainment product and not the landmark ambitious show of storytelling and musicianship people expected it to be… Encore was alright

People can say that it's bad but it is still a good album. Like you said, if not taken seriously and remembering about his drug addiction, you'll understand why it is like that.

Note that on the album where it has the written letter from em saying I'm sorry the word sorry is missing the y like he couldn't commit to a true apology. It goes from sorr to the signature.

Encore had extreme potential. Still to this day, it has a handful of tracks (“Mosh” and “Mockingbird” especially) that I think rank among his strongest ever songs. Even “Just Lose It” is a guilty pleasure for me because it’s still so much fun by leaning into its ridiculousness. If those first few tracks hadn’t leaked, I think the album would’ve at least been perfectly solid, and probably a lot better than most of his albums from the 2010s. So disappointing what could’ve been…

Enocre is a good album. The first several tracks and the last severall tracks are fantastic. The middle of the album was a little "lazy". Overall it was a solid project. I would def not say it is his worse album. 1. The Eminem Show 2. MMLP 3. Slim Shady LP 4. Recovery 5. Encore 6. Relapse 7. MMLP2 8. MTBMB 9.Kamikaze 10. Revival 11. Infinite

Encore is a classic. He was battling addiction. Encore definitely beats some of his newer music. Of course Encore couldn’t touch The Eminem Show or The Marshall Mathers LP. Encore classics Just Lose It Rain Man Yellow Brick Road Toy Soldiers Mosh Mockingbird Never Enough Spend Some Time It wasn’t his best album but it’s not his worst.
@aidanthomas25103 ай бұрын
Encore definitely beats Revival but as an album it doesn't touch Recovery, Kamikaze or MTBMB imo

Now that I see the track list after many years, I think of Encore as a classic. Most of this songs have replay value to this day, maybe 2 or 3 are under average. Spend some time , my favorite to this day!

Ridiculous talent to feel like you flopped and still put out one of the best albums of all time. The less impressive songs, still shine, and only make the rest of his repertoire that much more impressive. He's grown as an artist, it's visible. I love it.

I was born in 2004. Encore is pretty much the first album that my dad put on my little baby ears, so i don't know if that brainwashed me or makes me overly nostalgic or whatever, but man i just *love* Encore. I didn't know the whole story about it being Eminem's supposed last album at the time, so that at least makes me understand a bit more why a good portion of the fanbase still to this day seems to hate this album, but man it's just really not as bad as people say it is, i mean it has 21 songs including the bonus 3 and there are maybe 5 songs in there that i don't listen to reguarly and i still like them. I especially struggle to understand how these same people hate on Encore but will praise Relapse which even Em has said himself that this album makes him cringe even more than Encore, or they'll praise Recovery which i could absolutely never get around to liking because it just doesn't sound as hip-hop and it was the beginning of this weird "pop rock" era for Em, but then these same people will criticize Revival for the exact same reason regarding the instrumentals. It's just all weird, i know an artist as huge as Eminem will always have extreme differences in opinions among the fanbase, but sometimes it all just sounds like a huge cognitive dissonance.
