There are a number of versions of the tale, so it might happen. Can't say that I have come across this concept myself, but it is a nice idea. Reminds me a little of the waterbug/dragonfly story, to explain what happens after 'death'

it means something that is not eternal, anything you see on earth is ephemeral since nothing is forever... thats what makes you value every moment as they are ephemeral, or in other words as John Frusciante in one of his songs says "moments take each others places"
