I love watching videos like this! So many memories! For us when it came to cheese it was only extra sharp cheddar. I remember my parents making a dish similar to this. I’ll have to ask them their recipe. Thank you for sharing Jill! Fun memories

I think the Crock Pot was single handedly the most amazing invention!! I think my Mom had that cookbook!! I remember my Parents having Fondue parties in the late 70's So fun!! I remember my Grandma always using that packet of dried spaghetti sauce mix. I would totally love this!

Hi, I was around in the 70s and entertained often with friends and we loved sitting around the table with a fondue pot. So much fun! Thanks for sharing this one. Until next time….Hugs, Dolores 🥰

We've missed you Jill! We've been on the road a lot for work and our ability to watch as often as we would like is being diminished. I haven't had fondue in YEARS and years, but I always enjoyed it. Now I would want my own personal fondue so no one would share mine LOL.

Lol! Nothing wrong with all the fondue! I remember traveling well! I hope you both get some down time soon!

My mom had that same crock pot cookbook, we ate a lot of crock pot beef stew thickened with tapioca served with Bisquick drop biscuits growing up --- I wonder if her stew recipe was from that book.

Hi Jill....I have two crockpots, one tall one and one oval exactly like yours here. I use either of mine a lot during the winter months, especially the oval because two small chickens fit perfectly into it, cavities facing each other. The taller one makes chili quite a few times over a Cdn winter, and is a perfect tureen for a lunchtime soup and sandwich party.
@yesterkitchen2 жыл бұрын
Hi Heather! Sounds like you have them down! I do have a much larger one but this one fit the recipe perfectly. And how great are they? I love your chicken tips. They would fit perfectly wouldn't they? I'll get into the more Crock-Pot history and it episode coming your way in about a month!

I have a first edition of that book, and also a copy of crepe cookery. Delicious looking concoction. I'm betting it would make a marvelous pasta sauce as well! Suggestion for you, how about a recipe or three from Peg Bracken's "I hate to cook" books. Not only does she have some great time saving recipes therein, but the books are hysterical!

Hi buck! I love that you have the first edition! I remember seeing the creep book as a child but it never made it to me. I may have to go find it in addition to the cook books you've mentioned. You know I love me things! Thank you!

oh man.. i learned to use a crockpot with one of those vintage 70s models.. my stepmom at the time had the very fashionably tacky yellow ones with the same deep brown ceramic insert.. sadly it burnt out around 2006-8ish

We had this book when I was a kid. Don't remember her necessarily making this dish, but they did like doing fondue for their card parties. I would toast the bread cubes slightly, don't like mushy bread.

This looks really interesting - I grew up in the 80s and 90s and my mother loathed fondue so it's a bit of an obsession with me! That said, I've never heard of spaghetti sauce mix (had to look it up and OMG - the prices here are crazy $76 for 24 packets! Eek lol) . These kind of packets maybe weren't a thing in Canadian shops, or I may have somehow missed them growing up.

Mix up your own italian sauce Tomato sauce small can tomato paste oregano salt table spoon of sugar 1/3 cup red wine .. some basil and simmer 2 hours
@yesterkitchen2 жыл бұрын
Hi Kate! These packets have been around forever and are very popular here in the states in the spice aisle. You can find them in with the other gravy mixes, Etc. I've never actually looked online cuz they're pretty available here but wow, that is quite a bit! If you happen to find one in any Market, I hope you try this! This seasoning packet is not something I would use if I was making spaghetti sauce but it is classic 70s an integral part of the dish. Just something about the spices they had in there that makes you smile.
@katem24112 жыл бұрын
@@yesterkitchen I checked Walmart grocery because they're an American company and may have these packets and they did have gravy mix (several kinds! I'm now irritated that I've always made from scratch. There was even canned gravy - wtf? lol) And Alfredo sauce mix (I'm not sure I want to know about that one) but no spaghetti sauce mix. I'll have to check Safeway (I think they're in the US market too, and they sometimes get American food brands in stock) and just keep my eyes open. The packets I saw were a couple of dollars a pop, which is much more doable than what I've found online. Now I'm detertermined to track this stuff down and do up this recipe!
