It's just as sick there's so many different storylines going on cuz so many more people are so good. I think it will be appreciated more as time goes on. Especially now seeing how Cody turned out to be so annoyingly good like I always thought spacies were just always gonna be the underdogs because they're just not gonna be as consistent throughout a whole year but he's definitely starting to prove that wrong. And seeing the only 2 people that have been able to take him out this year being mango and hbox and the way cody is just shitting on Zain now idk I love melee I watch every single major it has never gotten stale to me.

Crazy to me that it took this long for a solo Fox to be #1. Leffen never did it, and Mango and Armada both used Fox as a secondary. With how long its been agreed upon that Fox is the best character in the game, I'm just shocked it took this long. Great doc, great Cody.

In the same vein it took a solo Fox main this long to be number 1, it almost took a similar amount of time for someone to actually optimize Marth. The way Zain has mastered this character completely blows any previous contenders with the character out of the water to the point that they look so terrible compared to his Marth. I remember days when people would complain about Marthritis, his supposedly mediocre recovery, and that his special moves were pretty irrelevant parts of his kit. That all seems so fucking *absurd* now because these are all things Zain basically reinvented for the character, and now we've hit the realization that Marth might be *just* as broken as Fox instead of *almost* as broken.

If you look at the results it isn’t a question, I’m not sure what Mango’s tweet is about but the official rank had him at 1. It was tiered but they specifically had Mango with the crown. Every player's rank had Mango at #1 for 2021, and the official rank also had Mango at 1 (they just couldn't legally release it because of Nintendo and including Slippi results, but they put out a variation of their usual rankings that put Mango in a tier above everyone else heading into 2022)

Melee is an amazing competitive game with how it can create storylines and rivalries like this. It's so crazy how Zain and Cody have such parallels with each other, and the only other rivalry in Melee I can think of like the one those two have is Mang0 and Hungrybox, but even those two never had a dead even record against each by the end of the year. There will never ever be another game like Melee, and I'm all here for it!

I don't get why Zain always gets compared to Armada... Zain is unbelievably skilled and technically close to perfection. That being said, when it's the end of a game/set and you need to grind the win out I often find myself not trusting him to pull it out. Smash Summit 11 was the perfect example, some of those last stocks get so ugly with weird airdodges and dropped platform punishes. With Armada, you NEVER wondered if he was going to mess up on that last stock... I say this as someone that cheered against Armada for years. Different level.

God, Summit 11 is just peak e-sports. Idk if we'll ever get a better tournament again. aMSa winning Big House 10 was amazing as well and its a really close second in the modern era, but the amount of stakes that Summit 11 had was something straight out of an anime or some shit. Like, Big House 10 was an amazing modern day tournament, but Summit 11 is arguably the best tournament period. Peak storyline, peak Mang0, an opponent more dominant than Ken or Mew2King during their reigns. It was just a perfect storyline, and the Melee they played was godlike. Big House 10 still has to compete in my mind with other shit like Hbox's first EVO win.
