Hwoarang is another character I feel don't get put out there like he's a top tier character as well he goes toe to toe with Jin him and Jin had a good rivalry.
@y_magaming97982 жыл бұрын
In the early games it was my favorite rivalry. They could have a great dynamic like Ryu and Ken. Grossly underused

Hwoarang is one of my favorite characters and, in my honest opinion, he was wasted like pretty much all the secondary characters who are not Mishimas. (Especially Eddy, Paul, Asuka, Law and many more) He had a great potential and it was ok if he started with him having a rivalry with Jin which would later turn into a friendly one in a way. But Harada never did anything else with this character. Just making him seeking to fight Jin/Devil Jin over and over and over and over again. And Tekken 7 was the ultimate destruction of the character when they made him lose the eye and have him wear an eyepatch as this gimmick doesn't suit Hwoarang AT ALL. Also logically, the way he "lost" the eye was ridiculus as hell as realistically with the way the grenade exploded, you don't lose the eye, you actually get badly injured in your body or pretty much dying. Also also, if you look closely through the eyepatch, you see that his eye is still alright...heh, not even bothering with making it look injured or hiding it completely. And let's face it, this idea of making him lose the eye and wear an eyepatch was a carbon copy from Juri's gimmick from Street Fighter considering the partnership Harada has with Yoshinori Ono and how he takes advices from him, since it was pretty much clear that Harada does not know what to do with Hwoarang and probably doesn't even care about the character (as well as most of the secondary characters) as he only wanted to put the focus on Heihachi Mishima. And probably the only reason why Hwoarang kept appearing in the games was because of how popular he was among the players as he was played a lot. Otherwise, Harada would have got rid of him immediately. Overall, Tekken 7 showed us Harada's true colours. Which is that he only cares about Heihachi, which is why he desperatly tried to make him a "sympathetic" and "tragic" character and trying to hide his previous crimes in the old games, thinking we forgot about them as well as doing retcons after retcons in order to deem the likes of Kazuya and Jin as the villains even though they are the true victims of the story. And at the same time, Harada focuses on pushing Lars as the new hero and face of Tekken (Which totally fails at being convincing and likable), because Lars is Murray's favorite, and forcefully pushing Jin Kazama away from the role as protagonist and deem him as a villain which is what Harada tried to do in Tekken 6 storyline. It's sad but true. Tekken is in a complete mess now, especially with how Harada even included a guest character like Akuma into the main storyline which makes me think that Harada just gave up in making a convincing storyline into his franchise and only cares about gameplay and eSports events. A reboot is more needed now, but I doubt it will happen.

You hit the nail right on the head. It truly makes me sad to know that the story is often time an after thought in fighting games. Not to sound like a nostalgia goggled fan, but I gotta praise what was done right: Tekken 3 gave me all the reason to care about the story. It was visually appealing and enticing, there were a variety of stories as given from the intro. In comparison, there wasn't even any effort put into Tekken 7's intro. I wish they would at least allow a true to heart fan to craft the story if they don't care about it anymore. If I was in charge of that, I'd bring the story back to form.

I wouldn't say their pushing jin as the villain considering the ending of tekken 6 and 7.

Just because you like Jin doesn't justify you saying that Jin is the protagonist. If you thought Jin was the Protagonist you don't understand the story of Tekken well enough neither do you understand Japanese culture. Demons are always evil and Jin has no control of the Devil Gene neither does Kazuya. There has to be someone to end it AKA a Heihachi like character. The long way of telling us the story is franchising. You don't actually play fighting games for the story it is just an added bonus to a fighting game. Tekken was built for arcade competitive gaming and also is the reason why there are so many iterations of the game to keep a franchise living long. Everything of the Tekken games and games of this Genre are cash grabs if you didn't know that you are dumb

The funniest shit about Hwoarang is that because of what happens in Tekken 5 and Tekken 7, he is canoically in the upper echelon of Tekken Characters in terms of strength, where he is somewhere around or right bellow the Monster Level that is Heihachi and Lars.
@joaovictorfc74682 жыл бұрын
Yep, because he canoically beat Jin, won the iron fist and fought with devil jin and lived to tell the history

Facts, actually Hwoarang’s design in Tekken 7 is the definition of over designed.

If Tekken 8 happens, Hwoarang should try ending his rivalry with Jin, perhaps one more fight with the young Kazama. Here’s another thought... Since both Hwoarang and Asuka Kazama want to fight Jin, do you think both Hwoarang and Asuka could form a partnership with each other? Just wondering.
@roscodantethefightinggamen79394 жыл бұрын
I honestly doubt it. Harada had that same idea with Hwoarang and Lili, as seen in the Tekken 6 E3 trailer, but that fell through. I've been wanting Hwoarang to meet with those two for the longest time.

Hwoarang is cool because everything about his design matched with his personality. It’s not just his biker theme outfit that displays his delinquent side, it’s also his taekwondo dobok. He has an interesting personality, Hwoarang lives for the thrill and doesn’t let any rules stop him from doing what he thinks is fun. Despite what his rough personality would suggest, Hwoarang has an honorable side. He respects his master Baek and prefers to have a fair fight with his opponents. He rejects any form of supernatural power so he can rely on his own fighting skills. While Hwoarang is a jerk most of the time, he’s actually a fairly decent guy when you get to know him. His rivalry with Jin is interesting due to how it developed throughout the series. It evolved from a bitter rivalry to a friendly one. Jin and Hwoarang are now basically just the friends who prefer to beat each other up rather than hug. No matter how much they fight, they have each other’s back. It’s a typical example of vitriolic best buds. Hwoarang was even willing to sacrifice his eye for Jin in T7 even if it was just an temporary injury and he didn't lost the eye for real, it shows how Hwoarang was more moral than Jin at that particular point. Lastly but not least, I consider Hwoarang to be one of Tekken's strongest designs. I personally think that he’s the best representation of TKD in a fighting game. Hwoarang is awesome and I can’t imagine the franchise without him. 🤷🏻♂️☯️👌✌️

It's actually, "Hwoar-rang" as pronounced in Tekken 7, I just pronounce it that way because it's difficult for me to make that strong of a pronunciation while I'm reading off of a script.

Actually he's a Korean character, so listen to a Korean his name. Hell, just listen to the Baek cutscenes. The W is basically silent and most asian languages don't have long vowel sounds. Tldr: Ho-rong.
