Beach Please is a Mumbai based youth community that conducts weekly clean-up drives at Dadar beach, Mithi River Basin (Mahim) and Mangrove forests at
Airoli in Navi Mumbai.
The group was founded by Malhar Kalambe at age 19, with the aim of cleaning a small part of Dadar beach as a one-time activity with school friends.
The reunion of friends soon snowballed into a youth movement leading to the clearing of 63 Lakh KGS of garbage over 226 weeks of cleaning.
Malhar and the team of Beach Please have been honored with several prestigious awards over the years and also conducts sensitization programs on environmental conservation with schools, colleges and corporate organizations and have engaged more than 2,50,000 citizens through their initiative.

This is beautiful! I was shocked at how much garbage there was there. There is also sewer, so I hope those people are all safe that help clean up these systems. He is right, I learned from things my kids told me they learned at school about animals having plastic stuck on them and dying. I promised my kids I would never do a few things anymore, and that has affected my life since. Bravo to the mother too of this young man!

Dharti maata was created and given to all creatures,including man,in pristine condition Man is the only one, among all creatures,who shows gross disregard for the sacredness of a clean earth. Hopefully, this young man would spread his message to children in schools and enlist their commitment not to pollute and to continue his work. It would help also, if cities and towns were to provide garbage receptacles on the streets to encourage people to use for all refuse. Cleanliness is next to Godliness.

Cleaning up the pollution in India is admirable, but the more important question is how do you keep it clean? This requires a systems approach for waste management. I don't know what the answer, but we need to observe and learn what First world countries do. I don't think it's that hard, but we need to learn the systems.
@gy2gy246
@gy2gy246 7 ай бұрын
There needs to be waste management everywhere. In First World countries, trash is picked up once or twice a week, and the trucks dispose of it. Recycling is picked up on another day. I think in poor neighborhoods in India, trash isn't picked up regularly. It runs from the rivers to the ocean, and the tides deposit it on the beaches. If I'm wrong, please correct me.

India tourism sector will get a major boost resulting in more employment opportunities ,if India will be cleaned, also there will be less number of diseases..and many more benefits... I wonder why Indian people don't get bothered by these benefits and not maintain cleanliness... Cleanliness might sound a naive idea but it's benefits to people are insane...... Please understand and take a vow to not pollute the environment in any way..........

Why don't local governments put out trash bins for people to use? Why do so many people throw their trash on the ground rather than on a trash can? I've never seen pollution so bad. Start fining people who throw their trash on the ground. The fine can be used by local governments to keep trash bins handy for people to use. Hopefully y'all get that worked out. Wow. That level of pollution is crazy to me. I'm shocked.

Kudos. very promising and hopeful. But I feel you need to attack the problems from a number of angles (not just cleanup).. 1. Free advertising that recognizes, exposes, shames and promotes 2. Financially incentivize clean up 3. Tax, Fine and shame when individual and companies disregard or violate 4. Policy and regulation on manufacturing and use of these products. Public opinion matters. Technology can help.

I don't understand why the authorities in Mumbai / India are not being held responsible for this disaster? Apparently, there is no functioning waste management in most cities of India. Same for sewage. Why aren't people in India not ashamed of themselves, not being able to implement the most basic social functions? After all India is a democracy.

That's 2100 three ton army vehicles. 2100 (3 ton vehicles) = 63 Lakh kg How many youths participated? And how many days it took? And why beach cleaning can not be organised by the government using proper distance placed dustbins? Where people are, waste is definitely going to be there. All is needed is proper waste collectors.

Excellent work. But BTW, the symbol for kilograms is always "kg", not "kgs" (kilogram-seconds) or "KGS" (kelvin-gigasiemens). Also, it makes no sense to be using "lakh kilograms", as the metric system is based on 1000s. In the same way one would not refer to 100 kg as "1 lakh grams", one doesn't say "63 lakh kilograms"; just say "6300 megagrams/tonnes" or "6.3 gigagrams".

Yes yes yes please! And yes the youth are great for tackling these issues. But please do not hate your elders. The generation of your parents were the ones who taught you to fight the filth. Your grandparents demanded no lead in gasoline. Us ole people had electric cars decades ago but we faced having them ALL repossessed. Your elders eliminated asbestos and we demanded recycling. Not everything we wanted happened. Not all our achievements were honestly working. So we taught our children... you... to join us and help us fight harder! We love you and we love mother earth. The beaches abroad are cleaner because Europe, Australia and America have stolen land, from Native peoples of America and Australia, natural resources, including hunting and stealing Africans via colonization, slavery and indentured labor and made India and Africa very very poor. You are too young to have experienced this. This is the main reason Africa and India have so many problems - poverty creates a lot of problems in every aspect of life and environment
