This is hands down the best Boxster - the 987.2 - they appear to be quite rare on the UK market compared to 987.1 etc. but worth hunting down. This one is absolutely beautiful and I trust you'll hang onto it - if you don't you will regret it.

Much appreciated friend, they aren't very common here in the states either. I don't have any plans of getting rid of it, just need to hope this KZbin thing works out so I can continue to afford it lol.

Such a lovely story, thank you! I'm too a 987.2 owner in Japan. Here in Japan, it seems the people are rather in favour of 981 as it howls better, looks better etc. I have switched wheel sizes to 19' and painted front ducts, other than that I have no solid reason to switch my 987.2 to 981, at least while it runs. Not modern as the recent ranges, but the feeling of port injection engine and steering wheel are especially what I believe a pure sports car is.

I have loved Porsches since I was a young child, had them on my wall, went to motor shows bi-annually to get new model range posters, and spotted them wherever I went. I promised myself I would own a Porsche one day and planned to get myself one as a retirement gift. Two years ago, my parents passed 6 days apart, and as a family, we had a terrible year losing several loved ones. Once the estate was settled, I came to a realisation that not everything in life goes to plan, and discussed with my siblings the idea of buying my life goal car earlier. They were fully supportive, and after 3 months of serious searching, I bought my Porsche Cayenne. All the feelings you describe I have felt. Every time I get in the car, I feel special and have to pinch myself to remind me that it is real. I look after it like a baby, and I drive it every day. I am piling miles on it, but I firmly believe that is what it is for. It is my dream made reality. The bonus for me is that every time I sit in the car, I remember that it was all made possible by my beautiful parents. This is my story.

Thank you for sharing it with the channel mate. My condescendence's to your parents, and I am truly glad for you that you have your Cayenne and are enjoying it to the fullest. I should put more miles on my car, and your story makes me want to do exactly that. I am sure it will inspire miles on many more Porsche's as people read it as well!

I have the same model 2009 987.2 Boxster S - PDK and Chrono in Speed Yellow. It took me a long search to find it as they’re a rare specimen in the UK; I think around 450 imported between 2009 and 2012. I intend to hang on to it. This is my third Boxster - so I’m quite an enthusiast; but undoubtedly this is the best. Feedback is sublime - the mech steering is just wonderful - one of the reasons I didn’t buy a 981. I have the best of both worlds with the 987.2 - the MA1 motor and no electric steering.

The generation and color are pretty rare. I realize it more and more each day. It was also the last generation to even offer Speed Yellow, I think they switched to racing yellow for the 981 gen? Makes it all the more easy to appreciate. Thanks for sharing mate!

For me, I aspire to one day hopefully be fortunate enough to own a Porsche of my own, whatever it is. I used to not be a fan of them but as I did more research and some talking with people I came to understand what makes them so special and different from everything else. I eventually got to drive a base Macan, as it was a vehicle my parents were considering a number of years ago. I still remember the dealership experience and how nice and welcoming everyone was and even at the base level for a Macan you could feel that this wasn’t just your normal small suv, not fast but you could definitely tell it was very capable. In the end, my parents went a different direction, BMW 328xi wagon, but not because they didn’t like the Macan (they were basically ready to configure a custom order) but they got a better deal on the BMW (which looking back at it was not the better deal since it got lemon lawed a couple of years later and the Porsche would probably still be around lol)

Owning a Porsche is very much possible mate. They aren't as expensive as you might think (at least on the used market) and if you are willing to watch some KZbin videos to do your own maintenance, affording on isn't out of the realm of possibilities either! My Boxster was not, and is not an expensive car. Especially by modern standards, but its fun!

@@carcaveofficial oh yeah definitely, I used to do a lot of my own maintenance on my vehicles but time and family has definitely changed what I can and can’t do at the moment. Having a child and another one on the way means we need to practical cars, for now, but one day in the future when the time is right a Porsche is definitely on my list.

Hi Mr. Carcave Thank you for sharing your story. I have always been an avid Subaru enthusiast, owned a 2015 STI and loved it, and later on bought a 2019 STI S209 #83, the only real STI to ever make it to America. I then had two of the same car, in the same color WRB, so I decided to sell my 2015 STI and wanted to get into a new platform, so I bought a 987.2 Porsche Boxster S. I wanted to challenge myself driving a mid-engined RWD car, while also trying to master an AWD, front heavy car. I track both of them, really get to see the pros and cons of both platforms, and overall I hope that exploring these two cars will make me a better overall driver. I have loved the 987.2 platform, but just recently had a baby, and will need back seats soon. I am now in the market for the 997.2 C2 or C2S, but it is definitely pricey, so I will most likely enjoy the 987.2 for as long as I can before I make that change. Thanks for the content! Really love your channel.

Mr. CarCave, I love that! Subaru's are brilliant cars, I often debate with my mate (didn't mean for that to rhyme) about how they are some of the best bang for your buck performance cars out there. I always wanted a GP gen STI (hatchback). Love your desire to continue to better your driving skills, I am ashamed to say I have never been on track but defiantly something I want to do when funds become available. If you had to choose one as a track day toy, would you go for the Subaru, or Porsche? Also, congrats on the baby!

@@carcaveofficial hard to choose, I have more of an emotional connection with the STI because it's always been my dream car, but the better track car is the Porsche for its performance and reliability. Dry sump configuration for oiling system should always go hand in hand with boxer engines, especially for track performance where you experience high lateral g.

Love your content. As for me, I thought I was done with cars-as-fun-toys when I sold my Infiniti G35s 6MT and replaced it with a PHEV Audi A3 (and a Tesla Model 3 for my wife). Fast forward to 2021, as my nephew encourages me to test drive a 718 and see if I really am over it. So I took a base Boxster with a manual transmission for a spin down in San Diego and could not wipe the smile off my face. A few months and test drives later I put my name on the list for a GTS 4.0. Then the waiting - and more waiting. By March 2023, the month I was expecting an allocation, I was getting pretty antsy. But the dealer I’d been working with didn’t come through with a 2023 allocation so I started shopping around. Soon enough I got myself into an MSRP allocation through an LA dealer. I picked my guards red Cayman GTS 4.0 6MT from the Porsche Experience Center in September and am absolutely loving it.

Family is great at talking us into spending money on cool stuff that the 'responsible' part of our brain tells us to avoid. I am convinced we never really grow up, just get more responsibilities, cars are how we keep who we actually are alive inside. Glad to hear you pulled the trigger on the GTS, and in a 6MT too! Congrats mate, and happy new year!

It was 2015-2016 when I realized the prices for 911s were actually in my range, but I was about to get out of the military and use my GI Bill going to college. So I watched and waited, lurking on the forums learning as much as I could. Developed a list of options I wanted. Made a spreadsheet of list prices with options and a scoring system so I could get an idea on what a fair price would be. Top of my list were Speed Yellow, 997.2, Carrera S, 6MT was a must. Black leather. Yellow belts, gauges, and an aerokit were all high on the list. But because I had the spreadsheet I knew those didn’t pop up often. In fact I don’t think I’d ever seen one with all those. So I was prepared to accept a Cobalt Blue, Guards Red, with gray, silver and white taking lower priority. Black was an absolute no go. So was sand beige. Fast forward to 2020, I graduate but, yeah I said 2020…the onset of COVID. I watched in terror as prices started to climb. Plus, I had to buy a house first, since I successfully parlayed an internship into a job. Luckily mortgage rates were at historic lows. Buy the house and continue to watch prices raise. I start to think about other options: I own a 30 Cobra, so maybe a 350R, flat plane crank sounds amazing. Or maybe the new Supra….nah. What are GT4 prices doing….holy sh!t!!! Maybe just wait it out? Maybe “settle” for a Cayman, but I know that 911 envy is very real, so no. Mid 2021 I see a 997.1 Speed Yellow base Carrera pop up on BaT. It’s not everything I want but for a decent price I’d take it. Place a few bids toying around. Show my wife and friends for the few days I’m the highest bidder. “Look, I own a 911(almost), haha.” Bidding goes out of what I would consider a decent price for not what I want. Wasn’t too serious anyhow. About a week later. paint to sample Ferrari Yellow 997.1 Carrera S, 6MT, Black full leather, yellow belts, aerokit car pops up on BaT. More interested I bid again. Oh look, it’s listed by a guy I actually listened to on the great but now dead PorscheCooled podcast. Now I’m a little more interested. Go through the Carfax and service records. Well maintained two owner car. Let’s look around for a shop to do a PPI. Find a shop, oh what? The shop I was going to have the PPI done at is owned by the guy who consigned the guy to sell his car? Now I’m even deeper in. My bid is holding to the finally day. Tell the wife I’m getting serious about this one, she reluctantly on board. Clocks ticking down. I decided to buy, bidding back and forth. The few serious bidders drop off one by one until the clock strikes zero and I have the top bid. I sat there in shock, adrenaline pumping. What an experience! Two weeks later my son and I flew up to NJ to pick it up. Drove it home 3 days to Texas. Stop to see my daughter in Virginia day one. Hit a very empty Tail of the Dragon on day 2. Pulled into the driveway on Day 3. That was right under 2.5 years ago. Been living on it ever since. It’s not the 997.2, no DFI motor and there is potential for bore scoring. No yellow gauges (fixed that myself, shoutout to venoxy.com for custom gauges at VERY great pricing). Higher mileage than I wanted, but like I said owned by a shop owner so well maintained. Paid more than I would’ve pre-COVID and maybe even now, but it checked almost all of my boxes. And it’s mine. We’ve since gotten my wife a black on black 987.2 Boxster S this year off BaT, too. So I can relate to when you said you feel like you’re one with the car. And I honestly think it drives better than a 911, with that feel. Makes me believe that a GT4 has got to be prime Porsche. Anyhow, that’s my Porsche story. Yeah it took me 5-6 years to get a (at the time) 16 year old Carrera S, but it’s mine. And I don’t look as much now, but I have yet to see a car that ticked all of my boxes come up for sale, so I’d likely still be looking for that 997.2 and paying a lot more for it IF I ever found it. Sorry for the wall of text. But you asked for it. And I do think your content it top notch, so I’m contributing to you goal of making this a community.

I 100% did ask for it. What a freaking trip man. I felt the same about what I paid for mine, sometimes I wonder if it was the wrong time, or if I could have got a better price if I waited. At the end of the day, it really doesn't matter. The cars are great, drive them, enjoy them and that's it. I also had spreadsheets, it's crazy how similar Porsche people are when shopping for cars. Appreciate the kind words man, thanks for sharing the story!

I also wanted a Cayman initially, stiffer set-up, but for pure enjoyment...it was hard to turn away the Boxster. 987.1 will come at a substantially more attractive price point, but somehow I feel (most probably because I have one) that the 987.2 will hold a more valuable place in history.
