Something I forgot to mention in the video. Paarthurnax's name translates to: Ambition-Overlord-Cruelty. Considering dragon names kind of mirror the dragon's personality, this means that for Paarthurnax, trying to overcome his nature is even more difficult than for some others. For some reason forgot to pull this one from my research document into the finalized script.

Paarthurnax is hands down one of the best characters in Skyrim. He may be a dragon, but he treats the dragonborn as a friend, not as a mere mortal. He's a mentor, a teacher and the dragonborn is his student, just as the greybeards. He may have committed unspeakable acts in the ancient past but as he said "Would one rather be born good, or overcome one's evil nature through great effort?" Also if you kill paarthurnax, you're an asshole.

Now that explains some things. For a while now, I pondered on how Paarthurnax would have been able to visit Numinex, without being killed on sight by the Nords. My final thoughts were, that maybe he found a spell, or maybe even a shout, that allowed him to shapechange into a humanoid form. But Dragons after the war being somewhat accepted due to mostly just the good Dragons being around makes more sense.

I agree with the theory of the fight with Alduin but I disagree to one aspect of it and it's the horn , I think he gave it to Yorgen Windcaller because the horn we have to return to the grey beard look 100% similar to Paarthurnax's horns
@rockingpinaple3 жыл бұрын
Pretty sure he got most of his scars earlier, as the horn of Jurgen Windcaller looks like it would fit suspiciously well on his head, but that is a crazy good point you bring. I can't believe I never thought about that first encounter they must have had and what transpired.

Idk why people get the idea that the game isn't over until you complete the last quest to kill Paarthurnax. To me it's pretty obvious that a mountain full of dragons showing solidarity to the dragonborn killing Alduin is a sufficient end-game.

The question isn't whether or not Paarthurnax *_deserves_* to die, but whether or not the Dragonborn *_should_* kill Paarthurnax, they are two entirely different questions. Whether or not he deserves to die is beside the point, the Dragonborn should kill Paarthurnax. On a long enough time scale all possibilities become eventualities, Paarthurnax may work hard every day to overcome his draconic nature, but as an immortal being, it's only a matter of time before his faith falters and he returns to his old ways.

According to your logic, the dragonborn should slaughter all of mankind as well. Humans have the propensity for violence as well, after all.
@acendantoverlord57373 жыл бұрын
@@rockingpinaple HELL the Dragonborn should kill himself too for that matter considering a dragons will to dominate also exists in Dragonborn. Every Dragonborn in history has either sought power or were in power during their times.

@@rockingpinaple Humans are not born evil, but dragons are. Paarthurnax even says so. Humans are born innocent, and become good or evil through deeds committed by their own free will. Paarthurnax and the dragons are born evil by nature. They don't have a completely free will, and are internally and eternally pushed to do evil deeds. Killing all dragons (including Paarthurnax) is a good act, it's inarguable. Killing humans though... that depends on their deeds.
@rockingpinaple9 ай бұрын
@@voggers2593 except he never says anything like that. He says it is within a dragon's nature to seek domination (to be precise, "We were made to dominate. The will to power is in our blood. You feel it in yourself, do you not? I can be trusted. I know this. But they do not.") Whether you want to overinterpret this up to some completely unreasonable extreme where desire to dominate = automatically evil, it brings us to the next problem - by this logic, the dovahkiin may as well start the crusade with him/herself.
@voggers25939 ай бұрын
@@rockingpinapleHis most famous quote is "What is better? To be born good, or to overcome your evil nature through great effort?" Paarthurnax is implying here that he (and other dragons) are born with an evil nature. This is no over-interpretation, it is clearly stated and you missed it.

Honestly I always kill Paarthurnax. Mostly because I just don't like him as a character. I mean, I also hate Delphine because she's a bitch, but she is technically correct. Paarthurnax was Alduin's right-hand man. His chief lieutenant. Meaning he probably had a big part to play in the enslavement of the ancient Nords. Probably causing the deaths of countless men, women, & children under that regime. Not to mention how cruel dragons themselves can be. While it's true he did betray Alduin in the end, he only did it because kynareth told him to. Not because he actually felt bad or realized what he was doing was wrong. He saved Humanity because a divine told him to do it not because he himself wanted to. That doesn't sound like a good person. That doesn't sound like a person who feels genuinely sorry for their actions. That just sounds like somebody getting told what to do & following through & really that's all it is. I also just don't like how the fandom jerks off Paarthurnax as if he's a saint. The only reason people like Paarthurnax is because Delphine is a bitch. Paarthurnax was cool with you from the start, but Delphine treat you like trash. I understand why people like him even if they're wrong with them proclaiming his goodness. Paarthurnax just following what kynareth told him to do all those years ago. The only reason he helps you fight Alduin was because Alduin came to the throat of the world to kill Paarthurnax, but you just so happen to be there as well so he fights you both because of his arrogance.
