His stage name really says it all. Takasugi, using the specific kanji, can mean "tall cedar" or "expensive cedar". With all he's done, he's been such an expensive burden to everyone he's messed with (in more than one way) and it'll a real tall order for him to ever clear his name. Takasugi indeed.

As much as what Takasugi did being irredeemable, scandalous and in general being something no human should do to another, please do not let these incidents dissuade you from checking out super-1 as a show. Of course im not trying to play down the severity of the actions the actor did, but the character of kazuya oki did not do these things, so should be judged in a vacuum outside of what Takasugi did, and I believe youll find super-1 to be an enjoyable show all the same, I know i certainly like it quite a lot.

Agreed. I strongly believe in separating the character from the actor- I love Super-1 and will continue to watch it regardless of what Takasugi did and I also believe in imagination; we all know that Kazuya Oki would NEVER do what Takasugi did. Plus, there are other actors on the show, if you don't wanna watch Super-1 for Takasugi, do it for the other actors who act their butts off to make the show great. Like they say, can't let one bad apple spoil the whole bunch

I have since separated Oki Kazuya/Kamen Rider Super-1 from Shunsuke Takasugi, as heartbroken I am about this mishap, I still love Super-1 as a character, he is one of my favorite Showa Riders still and I still enjoy the show

Super-1 has been & will still be my favorite Showa rider, regardless of what Takasugi did or still will do. It's not Oki Kazuya's fault that Takasugi Shunsuke became a piece of shit in his later years after all.

I have an idea: a special _Kamen Rider_ crossover movie! The title would be _Kamen Rider Super-1: Show Me the Money_ and the plot would involve several police riders (G-3, G-4, Drive, Vulcan, etc...) trying to bring in Kazuya Oki (Super-1), who went rogue years prior and has been scamming many of his fans out of their money. Obviously, if this movie were to be made, they would either have to get ahold of Takasugi and get him to agree to reprise his role as Super-1, or find another actor who looks and sounds almost exactly like him.

This man was a part of something. Sure, maybe it was just a TV show, but you can't argue with its legacy. Generations of kids, 50 years worth have grown up on Kamen Rider meaning something to them. To defend the weak, to strike at the evil, to uplift the helpless. And he used that and he turned it against people. He used them in a much more mundane but equally sickening way than the villains he faced. He was given the chance to be part of a legacy that was bigger than him and would outlive him. And maybe it's silly and overblown. But not too overblown for him to use it against the people who trusted him.

I was born in 2001, I got into Kamen Rider as my first introduction to superheroes as a one year old. Super-1 was one of my very first introductions to Kamen Rider(I started with the Showa era). I don't know how long I have become someone who only respect the fiction character. So, I don't give an F if I ever meet the actor him/herself other than "Whoa, I didn't expect to meet you here" just that and I will tell how great they bring the feel towards the character that they played. If they ever ask me for money, I will see how much first and either I give only once or I will go savage by saying "Please don't misunderstand me, I only respect the person you have played as, not you"

I love Kamen rider to my death, and I will forever be grateful to that franchise. But I think reason why super-one's actor used his fans to get more money was probably because of his greed and cunningness, he's like a Playboy only instead going after women, he always went after money. Idk why he did that...maybe because his style of living wasn't the best or probably to make himself feel richer. I don't fucking know why he did it, but I do know that this can happen in real life and that people should always be careful to hiring. *Especially in Kamen rider* Japan along with the whole world, probably see Kamen rider as nothing more but a marketing juggernaut. Like the fucking batman or fucking spider. But that's not the case, at least to the people. Kamen rider isn't just a brand, but a mantle, a legacy of fulfilling and meaningful stories. Sure it maybe chessy and even a little predictable. But that doesn't matter when it comes to Kamen rider. See, in America, if a actor is in trouble and if they played a big role like a well-known superhero then oh well hire another one. But in Japan, that's it, if a Kamen rider actor is doing evil deeds, then we've lost that rider...maybe even forever. I swear, when Kamen rider is alive, those who've done evil deeds will pay for the crimes that will not go unhalted for ignorance in the name of true justice. *And I don't like justice, but for those who betray the honor of rider, will pay dearly for it*

From all the articles and discussions, especially the one from the shows, it seems as though (to me) Takasugi simply felt like he was owed the money with no care for who it was or what he claimed it was for. He leveraged his role in every case to get high off of the status and position, then would feel entitled. He didn't live a luxurious life, most of the money simply did just vanish. If we was living in luxury he wouldn't have done a ton of smaller gigs throughout the years. I remember reading in his Tokudane interview that he said he was using it to pay for his mother who was in a care home, his brother, and his son and daughter in law. However his family never got a cent from him (in a later tokudane report they contacted the brother and mother and said he never sent money for the past 15 years circa 2016). It wasn't a moral thing, and it wasn't for care of others, it just seemed as though the money vanished and he would do anything for it. Seeing as he did have encounters with the shady side of life, maybe loan sharks were involved. At the end of the day though is that he felt like he deserved things in life for what he did, capitalized on it and milked it. Be careful with success, and don't get hung up on it.

It’s not that Odagiri didn’t like his role, I’m pretty sure he enjoyed his time Kuuga. It’s moreso a combination of 1. He’s not a big fan of tokusatsu and 2. Kuuga wasn’t a huge career changing role. The first is generally thrown around and people misconstrued it to meaning he by extension doesn’t like Kuuga when he has said he enjoyed the project(think of it like he doesn’t like the genre but can make an exception to the stuff he worked on), but the bigger one is that fact that Kuuga wasn’t a huge deal for him. Odagiri was already an established actor at the time and Kuuga was just another job. Compare that to a lot of main Heisei phase 2 and Reiwa actors where being a Kamen rider is basically their big break. For them Kamen rider is something fondly as it’s their starting point in addition to some already being fans of the property. It’s why you’ll never see him come back but other high profile actors like Gaim and Fourze do as are fond of it and are willing to return. Even if they aren’t as high profile, Agito and Blade coming back reflects on them being fond of the property, but just because they don’t come back shouldn’t construed that they don’t like it.

Since you have been doing a lot of retrospective on Heisei era Riders (which I effing love to watch), try changing the pace by doing a retrospective on Showa era Riders? Try starting with Black (which is quite popular) then make a video like you did here about Tetsuo Kurata's (KR Black's actor) controversies as of late? I think that would be a hit...

(I did meet "Jiro" (Kikaida) and "Ichiro" (Kikaida-01) in Hawaii but briefly and they don't speak English and I don't speak Japanese. They seemed as far as I could tell and as the translator claimed to actually like meeting adults who watched their shows as kids in Hawaii. Ichiro liked Hawaii so much he had left instructions to have his ashes spread in Hawaii before his death). So he really was a soldier, I had heart that but wasn't sure if it was true, like this story. I heard it before but figured just a rumor. Sad to hear its apparently true. Not first Kamen RIder to sing his own opening theme, Kamen RIder (until Rider 2 came along) and Kamen Rider V3 did that, but was first to sing his own ending theme. I wouldn't want to perform that ritual once in a lifetime. Glad I didn't know this when I was watching Kamen Rider Super-1. Same as I didnt know Kiranger was so depressed over type casting he hung himself. I am going to NOT look for a video on other runors I heard about other Japanese actors. @@ferbusgddc No way he could have gotten to China. while it's not to say that China is actually all that clean (the country is still known for its abundance of scammers actually), at the very least, the CCP is VERY intolerant of someone with his kind of reputation & would have deported him as soon as they catch him, if he's indeed in the country. furthermore, the country as a whole is rather unfriendly to anyone who doesn't speak Chinese, especially a Japanese who's gotten himself known far & wide as a scammer.

I think Toei would have a policy to hire actors who had passion for acting and check their motives before let them in within the Acting Carrier. If I were the director of Super-1 I won't use Takasugi as an actor. Maybe someone who are veterans of Tokusatsu will be the one who takes the role of Super - 1 not that scamming piece of shit Takasugi. Maybe the ones from either Super Sentai or Ultraman Actors will be better.

The real tragedy of this is we'll never get Super-1 in any new adventures doing anything more than being a background cameo to fill the Showa roster. All joking aside, it definitely sucks when your heroes are not who they appear to be on tv. But superheros are still played by real, sometimes very flawed people. Our brains don't really understand the difference between the onscreen persona and the real person when the cameras stop rolling, so it can be difficult to separate the two. His performance as Super-1 was great, and he's one of the coolest looking Showa Riders. That said, the actual person clearly has personality issues. Its too bad he ran away instead of facing the music as well, because he might have had a chance to redeem himself that way, but it doesn't seem likely at this point.
