After Skyrider, Toei began production on their next Kamen Rider series featuring a scientist turned cyborg in order to explore space. This series became known as Kamen Rider Super-1. Super-1 has become quite a controversial show thanks to the actions of its lead actor, who swindled fans out of money for his own personal gain. Is Super-1 as deplorable as its lead actor? The thing that always bothered me about these shows is that they'll have a really cool concept for the character, but as the show goes along they just fall back into typical Rider Fair. Maybe it's a budget thing. It was always like that. Then the Rider just turns out to be a KR #1 clone number 75. Ya know what I mean?

Yeah, I'm actually quite disappointed with the Showa era to Kamen Rider because it is vastly inferior to Sentai. I can see why Sentai took the limelight away from it.

@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork It seems like Toei was trying to recapture that fame of KR#1 but just didn't know what to do with the show. Or rather they stuck to close to the Rider theme and thus the show grew stale. No giant robots, (not yet anyway. Looking at you Heisei era) no multi riders (a good thing) and bland characters. Yes it is easy to see how MH and Sentai surpassed Rider at this time.

@@WolfFistProductions it seems the problem is that the shows are severely limited by one having one protagonist which makes it difficult for audiences to follow 50 episodes when compared to Sentai which has multiple protagonists that the viewer can follow for 50 episodes. It’s ironic though because modern rider now has the problem of too many riders making it difficult to follow all of them.

@@jarnahmaxux7187 I think a reoccurring cast to bounce off of could’ve helped in its favor. But they would either drop interesting characters like what happened with KR Black or have them contribute nothing at all after their debut. It quickly went down hill after the initial episodes bogging down to formulaic plot lines. Amazon and Black RX seemed to have the most strength with its concepts. Amazon Tarzan gimmick made him more distinct compared to the standard protagonist in the showa series. Overall, when compared to showa Metal Heroes and Sentai, showa Kamen Rider plays it safe, too safe.

While the show doesn't hold up at all nowadays you can actually see how much Super-1 influenced modern Rider shows with his wide array of weapons and gadgets. Plus, Toei created a successor rider based on his concept - Fourze, who is still one f my absolute favorite riders. It's just a shame Toei never really aknowledges Super-1s influence because of this seasons association with the actor, considering it's one of the very few actuall scandals that happened with the franchise so they don't want to bring it up.

I don't blame them, but I'm also not sure I would consider Super-1 a success. There's a reason they started putting all of their focus on Sentai.

Despite Super-1 has major flaws in terms of writing as well the lead actor who did something dumb during his career, it's still one of my favorite Showa Riders. For me some episode were rushed but the concept was interesting, like I said about the lead actor I truly hate what he did to the fans but as a character he potrayed it was okay not my cup of tea.

Still waiting for the day you do the original Kamen Rider, I know it would take an awful long time considering it's 98 episodes, I believe you can do it! With the 'Shin Kamen Rider' movie coming up, that would be the perfect time to look at the OG Rider.

Super-1 was the first showa era rider season I watched and while it doesn't hold up nowadays when compare to other shows era season I still liked it. On a sort of unrelated note I was disappointed when I found what Kazuya's actor did to this fans and I'm glad you didn't used that as criticism for the show.

I don't think it is fair to critique something because of someone an actor has done in the real world. I mean, I have no intention of seeing The Flash movie because I hate Ezra Miller's version of the Flash, but I hated his version since I first saw him, not because of the type of psychopath he turned out to be. Nevertheless, if I was somehow tricked into seeing the film, I would still just rate it based as a movie.

Ok, I have to admit.....out of every Showa season I saw, Super-1 was the only one that wasn't a chore and I enjoy. I like the cast, villans and the overall chessiness of the show, also this show have my favorite Showa Suit (suck it Black), one of my favorite gimmicks and opening in the franchise. Theres flaws (mostly suffers from being a Showa season) and Super-1 actor can fuck off, but other then that is one of my favorite seasons of the franchise.

This episode just prove me that the Showa formula can be fun when used right (looking at you Stronger >:( )

This was a video of an expose’ of his fall from grace and crime. One of the two facts on why he conned his fans. Besides the cost of living and his obligations as an entertainer is slim and none as he is a man from a bygone era. He has a gambling addiction. He is Sugar Daddying a girlfriend who is 40 years his junior.

Terror Crow reminds me of a filler villain, Archbishop Wing from the middle of Kamen Rider V3 who is also a boring character who just fills empty space. He was gone after only five episodes, making surprising I even remember him at all. Speaking of which, seeing the Dogma Kingdom use animal monsters while Jin Dogma uses object monsters makes me think Toei took the thinking that they previously used for Destron monsters mixing animals and objects, only in reverse.

Super-1 wasn't infamous , Everyone unpopular opinions are always negative my positive unpopular opinion is that Super-1 is very good and Japanese fans are just so stupid. Toshiki Inoue was infamous as hell because he did the worst written pieces of Kamen Rider media especially Faiz went to downhill and since Shirakura ruined Hibiki , Kiva was consider an average show. Fuck Inoue , That man is a whole hack. Inoue is an awful writer and I will never forgive him for giving Tsukasa's death such disrespect in Decade vs Zi-o. I Just hope that Inoue never writes Kamen Rider ever again because this getting worse and it was already flawed enough.

Overall, I enjoyed your expose’ on this series and I do enjoy your Jon Lovitz’ Critic interpretation of certain failure that is with the making of these episodes. Actor to actor, you can back it up with knowing their names and their careers. Super-1 is a continuation of the Rider series as Toei is milking the franchise and keeping it alive. And if you don’t see it. Super-1 is close to camp and the dark gloomy setting is over after Stronger. Overall, I do enjoy the adventures Super-1 has to offer and before Crossovers is now common place. I would have love to see Denziman and Super-1 meet and team up as the character theme is mutable. Keep up the good work on your vids.

Glad you enjoyed the review. I try to include background information when possible, but sometimes the production of a series seems to be unavailable to international audiences. I'm just glad this one wasn't. I mean, it sucks that the actor is a scumbag, but it also shows that actors being scum isn't restricted to just American ones. If that makes sense.

I love the deviation from the showa rider thing of "evil group makes riders then riders suddenly turn on them" it was refreshing to see a group of scientists try to do something good like space travel THEN have the bad guys pop in. And the last half kinda lost steam for me like they wanted to do more but budget or time didn't let em.

I’m currently taking a (albeit unplanned) break from watching anything Kamen Rider-related ever since I finished up on watching Faiz plus its movie and have been going through my copy of the Ultraman Mebius DVD series set on which I’m really enjoying so far and I’m already a little more than halfway through the series. I even watched the Ultraman Mebius and the Ultra Brothers movie in between episodes too and will most likely to do the same for the Ultraman Hikari Saga side story. I also watched the first two episodes of Ultraman Ace.

For me, ZX was the last installment of the "classic" Showa Kamen Rider series, before the franchise was revived with a very short-lived "modern" Showa Kamen Rider series, Kamen Rider Black and Black RX.

It's a Showa-thing, but all of the series lead actors were "young", yet they all looked like they were well in their mid 30's, like Dynaman! I DO think Super 1 has a great name and costume, yet it's really not any different from the '70's shows. I don't like that cop bike, but it has way more original personality than the stunt bike!

@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork before we will go back talking about Takasugi. Kurata’s years of stardom happened because he failed miserably in his College Entrance exam. Instead of suicide, he gave acting and audition a shot and became a star in a kids show(Kamen Rider).He had a successful tv career for the rest of the 80s and early 90s until he just walked out on a Police Procedural Show which was considered the Japanese equivalent of NYPD Blue. He made a lot over OVA movies during the 90s and stepped back from acting to focus on his steak house business(Billy The Kid). His Black and Black RX Steak specials are the highlights. For a short time He had this Jo Odagiri attitude of shying away from the Insect role the made him as star. But he returned to the role in Decade and continued on his life and embrace Kamen Rider. There was fun moments when he sampled restaurants owned by Red Mask Takeru and Dragon Ranger Burai on his own KZbin channel. But getting back to Takasugi, he was a charismatic actor it’s a shame he went down hill. Since when we heard Rider actors like Hiroshi Fujioka, Hiroshi Miyauchi, Ultraman Susumu Korobe. Doctor Who Tom Baker etc. befriend fans, Con them of their finance and continue on till you get caught and humiliated. Very very SAD!!!

Kamen Rider Super Stale Ugh, this is so far my least favorite of the showa era. It basically just sucked my soul during the time i had watching this show, Every character felt dull and lifeless and the episodes themselves weren't worth it either. 1/5

I'll still take Super-1 over Skyrider because at least Super-1 kept with the same tone all of the through. Plus, that Halloween party episode was pretty awesome. Skyrider is just... dogshit.
