It was almost imposible as a kiddo in México not to admire campos. No matter who was his opponent, orbwho was infront of his, he never allowed himself to not give a 120% of his ability. He knew perfectly that his height was his bigges issue, he understood that the only way to keep himself there was to be outstanding in every game every play. His carisma and humble origins where just out of this World, amazing funny little great guy. By the way, he is still a humble guy up to this day.

Soy argentino y siempre admiré a Jorge Campos.

As a Bulgarian, I had a personal story with Mexico and Campos in 94. Although I was a kid, I can still to this day recall his colorful kit and him just being everywhere in the penalty. There are some footages from this historical moment for us. My mother (thanks to her I am a football fan) still recalls him to this day as the parrot. Of course it's because of his kits. Mexico definetly had some remarcable players then but no one could beat Campos for me. I am happy that exactly 30 years from that summer I can hear Campos' story.

As a Mexican football fan it was so entertaining to watch him play for so many years! I got to meet him once when he was advertising for AT&T years after he retired lol. Still have that photo to this day! Super nice guy in person, he made my brother and I feel the love in the short moments we got with him

Playing FIFA 12 was first time I knew about this guy, saw him as a GK in Classic XI's squad . I knew about all other GKs in the Classic team (Taffarel, Ravelli, Preudhomme and Shilton) but Campos, I didnt know who even he was. I searched him on YT and watched his amazing saves, then asked my self, how come I never heard of this guy? only to look at his career on google and see that he only played for Mexican/USA clubs, and never played in Europe. well thats why, if he played in Europe, he would have been a much bigger name. a big talent and awesome goalkeeper despite his height disadvantage.

thats true brother, but tbh at the same time thats what made him a legend! Dont think clubs there would have given him the same chances despite his talent

At that time, it was very difficult for a Mexican player to play in Europe... It is said that he had few offers, but he rejected them... If you want to see another similar Mexican genius and from the same time there is Benjamin Galindo... a switch-hitting midfielder who must have also played in Europe... but at that time, no one was looking for players in Mexico, hahaha and sadly, at that time there were great historical players for mexico, obviously the best known is hugo sanchez... but at that time mexico had a pretty decent team

As a short man my self, at 5'9", I find this inspirational. Your stature shouldn't limit you to do the things you want. Don't listen to these women that say the ideal height for a man is 6'0", it's complete bs.

It's different where you're from though. In America apparently 5'9 is average when in the Netherlands it'd be short. Personally for me anything under 5'8 is short and anything 5'8 to 5'11 is average

When I was a kid, I was collecting 1994 "Upper Deck" World Cup cards, I had a lot of them, like hundreds, and Gorge Campos card, where he performs a bicycle kick (because he had another one, there's always another one!) used to be one of my best, most valuable ones. I had the other one too, the "Player of the Year" card, the golden one!

In Football I played forward for being so fast m tiny but didn't really like it. I liked midfielder, but started played goalie atter seeing Campos n stopping goals from kids way bigger than me,even way older kids in penalties kics 🤪👍

Campos is a legend.. in the same era don't forget José Luis Chilavert, the Paraguayan keeper who took penalties and free kicks at club and international level. Campos actually predates the modern sweeper keeper by decades. But also, goalkeepers of 5'6 and 5'7 are not as unusual as one might think (they are not common, but far from unique) - their athleticism can make up for inches of physical size

5:40 I did this once and it was amazing. Was coming off an injury so I subbed out as keeper, but then one of our attackers wanted to sub out and I was the only one available, so I came on and equalised, opening the first of three goals my team would score. Never done it again and probably never will, but the feeling is amazing

Growing up in Mexico in the 80's and 90's we all dreamed of being one of these famous football players when we were playing in the street. Jorge Campos came to transform the opinion we all had of the goalkeeper position. It went from a position no one wanted to hold to the position everyone wanted and we fiercely fought to gain that position as we wanted to be like him. A true legend, a true performer/entertainer and a very fine and humble person. We still enjoy his TV appearances as a commentator entertainer.
