Wilfred Buck, science facilitator at MFNERC, is the man behind the research of the “Under a Blanket of Stars: First Nations Constellation” series. The first book in this series “Warren Whistles at the Sky” is written by David Robertson and illustrated by Amber Green. In this book, Warren remembers a story an Elder told him about the northern lights. Similarly, in this video Buck shares an intriguing star story from his childhood.

Awesome story that takes me back to my childhood. We lived in Northern Alberta, whenever we saw the Northern Lights we whistled and some danced with them. Thank you for bringing me back to one of my happy place.

Thanks for this story. 👍 When I was a very little kid out on the plains in the middle of nowhere I was sent out to the barn for some errand that I don’t even remember because I saw the lights!!!! It was a rare thing for our area. I had not ever heard of northern lights at that age & I thought maybe there was a town out there making lights that shined up in the sky somehow. The adults went to the window to look but they didn’t get to see it. It was a gift just for me. Aho.

Me n my cousin whistled at them during the summer and it was still sunset hour so the sky was really orange with the lights waving around and my cousin decides to do those extremely loud whistles with your fingers in your mouth. It echoed through the beach and trees. We got in the back of our uncles pickup and it was a 30 min drive back into town. But during that drive it is all forest and dirt road And one strand of northern light with a black circle made of squiggly lines chased us my uncle didn’t know and he naturally drives like a maniac. It chased us up until we hit a big hill going down and it stopped and stared from the top and vanished.

I view the Northern Lights as God's glory. However I have recently read various beliefs about it. Do the Northern Lights represent Good or Bad? I've heard so many various beliefs from different perspectives. The reason I ask this is I bought a Northern Lights necklace and I'm a Christian. I don't want to relay a false message to anyone especially if it means different things to different people. I think the Northern Lights are beautiful.

I've heard the Northern Lights make people turn violent. I saw them once and had this crazy urge to attack my friend. It was so crazy cause I had no issue with my buddy and we didn't even see the Northern Lights was even going on tell we went outside. Sure was weird I even told my buddy about it.
