The Story of Trails - Rixia

The Story of Trails - Rixia - We’re back with the Story of Trails, this time looking at one of my favourite characters in the entire series, Rixia Mao.
Rixia was born in the Calvard Republic, a land that, for the most part, we know very little about. But she represents a character who is forced down a path that she never chose, inheriting a century old lineage as a legendary assassin. However, upon coming to Crossbell she begins to change, finding a path of her own.
During a long term contract with an Eastern syndicate, Rixia finds a light in the darkness by performing on stage at a famous theatre, buoyed and motivated by someone she now see’s as her radiant sun. Initially in awe of this famous performer, Rixia works tirelessly as both assassin and actress, struggling to choose between what she is compelled to do, and what she wants to do.
Rixia may not have as tragic a past as some other characters in the Trails Series, but her story is unique in that it shows someone who feels forced to walk down a way of shadow without any sign of an escape route. It’s scary to think that had Rixia not arrived in Crossbell at this time, she may have stayed this path till her death.
In light of this brilliant character, today in our ‘The Story of Trails’ series we’ll be delving into the background of Rixia Mao, and recounting her steps through the Trails Universe. So sit back, relax, and let’s enjoy another dose of Trails Series lore!

Is it just me that finds the sky and crossbell series more difficult vs the cold steel series? I'm playing through sky SC right now and even the prologue is a little brutal lol

To be fair, most Trails games are pretty brutal in the first 10 hours or so. I actually find Cold Steel (excluding 3) to be the hardest of the bunch.

Tabbed this video as one to watch later, haha. As of a few hours ago I got to the final chapter of Sky 3rd. About to dedicate the next 2 months on the Crossbell games. Funnily enough the same happened for your Kevin Graham video, right as I was about to make a start on Liberl haha! By the way, the fight with Cassius I got complacent. Spammed attack without really thinking about it and as a result I was utterly annihilated - not even got him down to half health. My characters are all around lv 140 (I love farming...) and he made me look so stupid. You get what you deserve, eh? hahaha

Many Rixia will appear in Kuro no Kiseki III The Final Chapter Maybe will want to see Yin Outfit from Zero and Azure and we can see her Mask from Kuro no Kiseki

I love Rixia and I love her story, but I don't like the way it's told. Most of it is told through exposition during two particular scenes, those being the one in the Mishelam Hotel, as well as her ending scene on board the airship at the end of Azure. It feels kinda.. whatever the opposite of the word frontloaded would be. Backloaded? Lol It feels like they had her story all worked out, just didn't fully know how to fit it into the main narrative.

It's one of my biggest peeves of the Crossbell arc. It laid the foundation for bonding events, which in themselves I don't mind. But I feel optional events that force the choice on the player (so you can't see them if you choose something else) should NEVER be plot intensive. They should just be fun little events that reinforce the motives or personality of a character. Like you say, a huge part of Rixia's story is told through that final bonding event, which I was not a fan of at all. I think the reason why it was told in flashbacks though is that maybe Falcom didn't want to show us too much of Calvard. They obviously gave us glimpses of it's problems and the city of Altair, but that's about it. They probably just want to maintain that mystery.

There's something wrong here, Ilya is in rehab during Sen no Kiseki 4 / CS4. Means that the performance with Sully and Ilya must happen during Hajimari no Kiseki or after. I don't know if this is just an inconsistency, a misinterpretation of the ending of Ao or again a meddling with the time.

You're right. The ending image from Ao is after the liberation of Crossbell, which will most likely happen in Hajimari. So that scene where they're dancing together is also likely depicted in Lloyd's route, as she does recover before it's liberation.

It's more based on Chinese culture than anything else, you'll see the influence in the Eastern Quarter of Crossbell.
