A correction, that Tu-22M3 at Poltava is not the last one as the host and pilot stated, there are 3 more Tu-22M's (M0, M2 & M3 variants) at the The State Aviation Museum located next to Zhulyany Airport in Kyiv. WHen I moved to Ukraine a decade ago (Ukrainian wife) I visited all these aviation museums.

Yes, but 8 Ukrainian Tu-160s were transferred to Russia in 1999. At least 6 of these bombers are actively used by Russia today. 575 Kh-55 cruise missiles were also transferred, which was used against Ukraine.

@@MCMilitaryForce Again, just like the heavy transports destroyed at the Antonov airport in Gostomel near Kyiv, these planes never would have left the ground, if they were even in a flyable condition after 14 years. Ukraine had struggled to keep it's legacy fighter and fighter bombers in the air.

Those aren't Ukrainian or Russian. Its built and designed by a Soviet named Andrei Tupolev from Moscow. There all Soviet bombers lol and its not like Ukraine can maintain them. I usually support the Russians for several reasons. But i am truly sorry for the Ukrainians and what happened to them. The biggest mistake made by your leaders started with dropping the inherited nuclear weapons and delivery systems. Trusting the Americans is something that no one does. Not even Americans themselves trust the American government. Guaranteeing security is something the americans are always incapable of and to add they never keep their promises eitherways.

But there's a new president coming into office and this will be taken care of. But let's not forget Russia is the one that went back on their word by invading. And unfortunately because of those two weak presidents it's put us in a position where now we have to clean up what has happened. And let's not forget had we truly gone back on our word you wouldn't be still fighting this war, because Russia would have already won

I can understand the frustration, but let's be realistic. Ukraine couldn't even pay to maintain its existing armored vehicles during the 1990s and 2000s. It mainly failed to find the foreign buyers it needed to fund domestic production for even basic products like APCs, IFVs, and MBT upgrades. Who was going to pay to maintain these bombers? Even if they had been kept in good condition, they would have been completely unsuited to the current war. Now of course it would have been great if a third nation had been willing to pay for all of them, but as things stood in reality Russia was only willing to pay for a handful anyway. The fact of the matter is these various aircraft types are are technologically complex, logistically complicated, and incredibly inexpensive to maintain. And as a nuclear deterrent delivery system, heavy truck mounted missiles would have been much more effective (in the absence of nuclear capable naval cruise missiles). I doubt these bombers could have operated out of very many airbases in Ukraine. Prime targets for a first strike.

What Ukraine selectively forgets is that, the Budapest memorandum also required Ukraine to be a neutral state, alongside handing over it's nuclear weapons and strategic bombers to their rightful owner, the predecessor of the Soviet Union...then security guarantees would come in. But instead, Ukraine gave up strategic weapons and abandoned neutrality. That was stupid. When you don't have strategic weapons, you become neutral, just like most of the African and Latin America is.

After gaining independence, Ukraine hastened to transfer to the Americans all the developments, all the on-board equipment with secret keys of long-range aviation, despite protests from Russia. This was a very serious violation of the preliminary agreements and jeopardized Russia's security. It is said that the SBU then interacted with the KGB (FSB) and prevented the transfer of on-board systems with all codes to the Americans. But it could have been done quietly later.

I picked up on that, too ...sometimes we use euphemisms like 'reclaimed' or 'recycled' when we don't want to say 'scrapped'... Native Russian and Kievan peoples are an emotional, literary, passionate but very Stoic people. They will use what seems to be an odd or cumbersome word usage, when they are really trying to conceal, or possibly reveal, emotions to a literate listener. There is much concealed sadness in these officer's stories....

You're complaining that you've been given guarantees and they're not being fulfilled. The guarantees were given on the condition that you would be autonomous and would not build NATO bases on your territory. Do you remember when Crimea ceased to be yours and returned to the Russian Federation? So, this happened after you agreed to build a US naval base there. Do you remember how the ATO began?) When did you just start killing your own citizens and they rebelled against you?)
