Beautiful message. The almonds blossom means the starting of the end of the cold winter, an explosion of beauty and energy. Nice gift for a newborn kid, lovely way to welcome a new life.

I hear from a lot of people who put up a reproduction in their child's room without even knowing how appropriate it was

I've been assembling a 1000 piece jigsaw puzzle of this for the past two weeks. Apart from it being a nerve-wracking experience, I found respect for the small details all around the work. Almost every branch is painted with a different style, the flowers have different linings (some even have a kind of "psychedelic" aura around them), every stage of early flowering is included etc. I'm sad to hear he died only months after painting this: taints the theme of new beginnings a bit.

What a lovely story! I got a lil' bit teary here. He could have been mentally ill, but he was also a very sensitive man. This is one of my favourite paintings of his and I also love Japanese art. Thank you for another brilliant video ( BTW: I came from the Starry Night video, as you suggested. Awesome content!)

@@storiesofart There are so many paintings that I love and so different that it is hard to pick something. Here just a small selection: Giotto and Fra angelico as well as the Italian painting (trecento). Egon Schiele and Kokoschka, Vermeer, Degas, Bonnard. Giacometti (also his brother Augusto who is not so well known). Rodin and Camille Claudel ... as you can see, my taste is pretty colorful! It's great to discover something through you so thank you very much and best regards from the beautiful city of Munich.

First of all thank you so much for the great video! As for the almond tree - it is true that it is the first to bloom. I am from Israel here the almond blossom is a symbol of the Jewish Arbor Day and the first sign of the beginning of spring. The almond tree is called "Shkediya" in Hebrew from the word hardiness - because it blooms ahead of time. We even have songs about the almond tree blossoming. you're welcomed to Israel in the spring - the almond blossom is beautiful and magical!

I love Hiroshige and of course I love van Gogh and it´s clear the influence of Hiroshige´¨s stamps of the floating world and yes, van Gogh had his demons but also he had the capacity to feel love and to be optimist in a way. He was such a great artist. Now I¨m going to pronounce his last name in a ducht way. Thank you!!!!!

@@storiesofart Yes, what about Rothko? What do you think? and Klimt, and Egon Schiele, and Freud..so many...and what do you think about the call "pos- modern art"?
@storiesofart
@storiesofart 5 жыл бұрын
Yes! the only trouble with the more modern ones is copyright. But Klimt and Schiele are old enough. Great idea!

SOOO nice to hear the Dutch pronunciation... we hear it so very rarely!!! It should be said that he was shot and that he may well have shot himself, as has always been assumed, but that there is also quite a lot of conjecture from very reputable sources that he was shot by someone else, either accidentally or deliberately.

There is always that story about his death. It took three days for him to die. Most of that time he was lucid and he never accused anyone. And of course he had a history of mental health issues and of harming himself. But I always like to see how very charming and loving he could be to others. That shows us that he was a complete person with hopes, dreams, struggles, friends and lovers

Thanks for posting. I saw this beautiful work in person last year at the Van Gogh museum. I have often wondered if having syphilis caused much of his mental state? Other than his brother most felt he was very difficult to be around.
@storiesofart
@storiesofart 3 жыл бұрын
I guess that syphilis did make things worse. He had complained about depression and delusions for much longer though. Since his late teens in fact. And of course, he had lived on little more than bread, alcohol and tobacco for over a year. That cannot have helped either. I made a video about starry night recently. there I discuss this a little further

Noone knows, it's possible he took it from the Ravoux Inn where he was staying, or possibly from Gachets house. It's also possible it was Rene Secretans gun
