The guitar on this album is more panned in the left and right ear compared to their other stuff and it makes it sound so sonically different, I love it. In their previous album the guitars are more in the center of the mix with the occasional left and right pan thrown in there. On this album, the guitars are doing such interesting things in each ear and it makes it my favorite sounding album in their discography. I can't get enough of this production. The lead guitar in all the choruses make them so memorable. I haven't listened to them in a couple years but this album really caught me by surprise with how much more I loved it after sitting on it for a while. Favorite songs are Scowl, Mock, and Nerve. All their albums are so close together for me that my least favorite changes every time I take a break from listening to them.

HAHAH accurate af. There are like three songs on this one I like, my favorite being Mock. How You Are, also amazing. I used to think Solo's lyrics were a bit corny but the more I've listened to it over the years the more I've grown to love its catchiness. Totally agree with expectations being sky high when it came out; they def were for me too. I suppose that's a big reason this album sounds "bad" (which I use loosely) compared to their others; when the standard is set so high it's hard af to match it.

Btw, what did you think about Lil Lotus' Nosebleeder album? I notice it didnt show up on your top albums list and wasnt sure if you didnt like it, or it wasnt on your radar. That thing is wall to wall 🔥

I appreciate that! I have not listened to it but I definitely will. I think I’m due for an “albums I missed in 2023” video as a sort of b-side to the 2023 recap. A few comments like yours have pointed me to some great releases!

@PopPunkApologist Awesome! I think that sounds like a great idea. While I have your ear, I'll also throw out another album from last year for your list. Full Free Radical by Happydaze. I don't know if you remember the band Woes from about 5 or 6 years ago, they got a lot of heat after their debut album and just broke up pretty quickly.. These are the remaining members, and they've kept a strikingly simular sound. Very high energy and fun pop punk. I think you'll dig them based on your tastes

I love this record! It is hugely important to me. It came out on my 16th birthday, right when I was going through a breakup. Perfect timing lol! In my opinion, Nerve is the best TSSF song. That song and this album has gotten me thru the best and worst of times ever since it came out in 2015.

How important is it for an artist to release albums that are uniformly good verus have a few very good / catchy singles? I might expect the latter is more important driver of sales and streams.

It was never the best album of anything ever, but it is something so specific and unique, it's the one album they made which I go back to after long periods of time in a semi obsessive listening spree because the feeling this album gives me is an anomaly.

I never understood the hate for this album. This is easily their best album. So many great songs that are catchy and hit hard. Also, none of their other albums flow as well from song to song with that unique haunting theme from that guitar feedback from track to track. It’s purely the best and they had such a great balance from pop-punk and a more indie rock vibe on this album.

@dabeastmax6 ай бұрын
It is may be the worst of some of the best albums but I don’t think it is the same as the previous records in terms of theme/style. To me the earlier two albums are more typical pop punk (in that they typify and set the standard for what a pop punk album should be rather than ‘just another…’), whereas this one is MUCH darker and the band at their most bitter. I think it’s the antithesis of Proper Dose and is very much the lowest low before the highest high in terms of the general atmosphere and theme, but it was a great bridge between ‘the early work’ & the new(er) style and damn some of the songs slap so hard (shoutout How You Are).

I didnt realize this was apparently considered there worst album i prefer it over undersoil and dirt and especially proper dose if anything proper dose IMO was carried by its singles and the studio release of the album IMO ruined ":out of it". the single version was way better maybe im crazy but i loved this album it carried me so hard in my late teens especially with how common heartbreak seemed to be LMAO
