I really get what you mean about the lyrics being more evocative by being less literal. I've always said that this is a band I understand with my bones not my brain! Would love to see you check out more of their stuff - farewell wanderlust is a delight, and my personal favourite of theirs

I dont think ive seen anyone recommend this but you should check out Wild Blue Yonder. I’ve never heard a song perfectly capture the feeling you get after braving a storm, when the sun finally beams down and everything is still wet. Or the sun above the clouds pouring rain. And the instrumentals somehow perfectly encapsulate the sea.

The drums are one of my favorite things about TAD. Deep, thundering folk drums. They use them a lot, and it's why I recommended the studio versions because none of the lives really get that boom. This is definitely one of their most abstract songs. It feels like a fanwork of a canon we're not allowed to read, or walking into a conversation you don't have the full context for. There are a few on this album in particular that are like that, more poetry than prose. They don't convey a story so much as they convey a vibe, kind of like Procol Harum's A Lighter Shade of Pale, which is nonsense lyric-wise but definitely makes you Feel Some Kind of Way. Or else it's like they strip away all the details of a story and leave you with just the characters' emotion. No plot, just feels. They are good at nebulous but potent feels. It's like, I don't really know what you're talking about, Joey, but I relate somehow. XD It can mean whatever you want it to, whatever makes you feel *that* kind of way. The song King is like that, too. It hints at the fact that there is a story but doesn't tell you what it is exactly. But then the rest of their songs are like candid snapshots of a couple in love/turmoil. (The first album shows them meeting and falling in love. The second shows them struggling and breaking up. And the third shows them reflecting and reconciling.) Songs like Fair and Not Yet are nothing but those details. And somehow both styles manage to be extremely intimate. ANYWAYS. Thanks for reacting to another one. Not the song I might have recommended for a second exposure, but I had a feeling this would be the one you checked out if you were gonna. :p The Old Witch Sleep and the Good Man Grace might be their most dynamic song but not their deepest. I dunno, all my friends were impressed by it, and it does take you on a ride, in case you were tempted to listen to another. My personal favorites are the Love Run Reprise and That Unwanted Animal, for what it's worth.

If you ever feel like checking out more amazing devil stuff I’d fully recommend Welly Boots or Ruin because those are (in my opinion) their most painful and emotional songs. Great review man, love how I can see you actually thinking about the lyrics whilst still enjoying the music
