I’d recommend the Japanese versions of Donkey Kong and Donkey Kong Jr. They have the stages in order as they should be, no need to beat the first loop to unlock stage 2 or the second to unlock stage 3. In that version, in the first level of Donkey Kong you can also stay towards the top of a ladder and the barrels will go right past you. They’re by far the superior versions. You’re absolutely right, the international versions unnecessarily lock content. The NES ports were also base off the Japanese versions, so they’re the same. They’re also much easier, being console ports that don’t have making money per game as a priority. Donkey Kong on NES was originally missing the pie factory level, but in 2010 Nintendo made an updated version that included it. I played the Gameboy Color port of Greenhouse growing up, in Game and Watch Gallery 3. I never knew that was Stanley from Donkey Kong 3 for years. He’s also in Donkey Kong 3 Game and Watch, which plays quite differently as you can imagine. That’s it though, one of the least known Nintendo characters considering he’s in three games.

I think you might have been playing dk1 at maximum operator fuckery levels which would have made the game near impossible. If you ever feel like giving the game another shot try going into the operater menu on mame and fucking around a bit till you get to something more reasonable because i have never seen dk throw that many barrels that shit is scary lmao

First time I played donkey Kong, I played it on Animal Crossing Gamecube. They had the 3rd level as the 2nd level, my highscore was ~100k, not too great.

So much incorrect information about Donkey Kong, I couldn't continue to the other games. The barrels don't roll down ladders arbitrarily, they go down based on a percentage that you can manipulate during game play. You aren't invincible with the hammer, and not being able to climb with it (on every level, not just the second) DOES make the game harder, definitively. A complete misunderstanding about the order of the screens, and their changes in difficulty, speed, and the mechanics of fireballs or barrel steering. And especially your description of difficult or "impossible" jumps, when clearly not understanding the timing of jumping, and obviously not knowing that you can also jump over barrels while running AWAY from them, allowing you to land right between two close barrels so you can jump again. There's a reason that several players can make it to the final kill-screen of this game.

i agree with you that sometimes the jump can feel pretty bad and lead to dumb deaths, but i kind of adjusted to it. that might also be why i like super mario 1's controls, theyre way better than these ones.

The game is exactly as it was presented back when it was released, it has not aged. You and your expectations are the things that have aged. If you can't put yourself in the mindset of the era of an old game, it isn't because the game aged or deteriorated over time, it isn't the fault of the game, hence why I say "opinion can't be trusted"

Also, you are a fucking youtube commenter, you aren't a critic. I don't judge games like a critic, I judge them from a today's point of view, and it's not fun which means I don't think it's worth playing. I'm not saying someone can't judge a game from the point of view of its release period, but saying it's the objective way games should be criticised is wrong.

Therefore the game hasn't aged a day since the game remains exactly the same. Saying the design itself feels "dated" sounds correct, since you aren't pinning the blame for your own tastes/issues on the game itself, rather you're blaming the mindset of the gaming era. "This game sure aged poorly" sounds like "I'm bad at an old game so this game sucks". This is where your entire judgement falls apart for me.

This may not have been what the video was about, but it is important. To have eternal life, to escape hell, do not to try to become religious or to reform yourself morally. It's like offering a bribe to God to clear you of your bad deeds, because a good work will not clear bad deeds, like in any court. The book of Romans mentions that the wages of sin is death, evident in that all are dying, but that the gift of God is everlasting life through Jesus Christ. How so? Most people know Jesus died on the cross 2,000 years ago, but many might not know that He paid for our punishment of death on that cross. We broke God’s law, Jesus paid our fine on the cross. He afterwards rose from the dead 3 days later and defeated death, and all that you have to do to have eternal life and to be saved from hell is that while you should of course turn from your sins, trust alone in what Jesus did for you on the cross rather than trying to make your own way to God. If you will turn to Jesus and trust Him rather than your own deeds, you will be saved from hell and eternal death. It's not about joining a religion or trying to earn it, but just turning to God and being given mercy because of what He did for you. Why can you go to heaven? Because Jesus paid for your sins already and will clear your case when you simply trust Him to save you. The validity of this promise is clear through the prophecies of the Bible being fulfilled throughout the years with many being fulfilled now, with one example being in the nations coming against Israel in the current day, with Israel’s sudden return to their land also being foretold. Read into the Bible for yourself even, and you will see for yourself that this is all true. Therefore decide now what you will do, as you do not know when you will die and this is about your very eternity. Hell is eternal torment and God will not postpone the day of judgement.
