I started my TES journey with Morrowind, so when Oblivion came along, I missed the exoticism that I loved so much in Morrowind. Shivering Isles brought back that exoticism, and is by far my favorite place in Oblivion (both the game and the realm)!

I will never forget that one playthrough where I took the Mania road to New Sheoth and, at night, between the night sky, and those golden wisps, and Auriel's Ascension playing, I experienced one of the most beautiful moments possible in gaming.

My first Elder Scrolls experience was Morrowind on the original Xbox with the duke controller. I spent hundreds of hours exploring each and every corner and still did not discover everything there was to see. When Oblivion came out, I didn't have an xbox 360. I worked, but unfortunately every check was taken by my mother. When my birthday came around, a few of my close friends surprised me with an xbox 360 and a stack of games. One included of course was Oblivion. Even though Oblivion seemed limited in character freedom compared to Morrowind, I noticed the world and adventure freedom that kept me hooked for over 10 years. Many fond memories. They dont make games like this anymore.

Girl, this video was wonderful, I only came to play Oblivion a few years ago, I always thought the graphics were a little dated, but I realized how foolish I was, I liked the base game but the DLC The Shivering Isles was something special, you described very well the feeling of seeing that world for the first time, you feel unsettled but at the same time amazed by the beauty of this strange world

Very cool video! Re: the Shivering Isles and time, eras in Tamriel/Nirn and the Shivering Isles are actually measured differently. While the measurement of eras in the former are arbitrary and linked to major historical events (ex. establishment and fall of the Septim dynasty), an era in the Isles lasts exactly 1,000 years. The evidence for this comes from the in-game book "The Predecessors" by Yngvar the Wanderer. Yngvar correctly predicts the Greymarch to occur within this period due to researching the ruins all around the realm, and if you meet him while wandering around he tells you the end is coming soon (unless you meet him after beat the main quest, in which case he's surprised the end never came).

Another great video. Shivering Isles, to me, is the last true great "expansion pack" before the age of DLC and such. Truly awesome. Still recommending Arx Fatalis, as it hits a lot of the same notes that Elder Scrolls does and was actually originally going to be Ultima Underworld 3! I think you'd enjoy it a lot (if you haven't already played it)

I've always liked to think that Daedric realms are set outside of Mundus and outside of time and space itself and the only thing that connects the two is a linear time, but outside the timelines being connected Daedric Realms are unaffected by the goings on outside of them and are for all intents and purposes a separate reality

I was reading Dante's Inferno at the time Shivering Isles came out and thought that the extra emphasis on going underground all the time was a slight reference to it. Oblivion dungeons often go underground to, but you're essentially in sunken cities or bunkers to protect against dragons. Shivering Isles feels more alive underground than it does upstairs and Sheograth is essentially a demon. One thing I always found curious were the Grummites, which are not deadra. I read a theory that the Grummites were originally from Nirn but stumbled into or were invited into the Isles by Sheogrorath to amuse himself. Because Sheogorath is one of the eldest demon princes (he invented music) the Grummites are proably prehistoric and are extinct in Nirn.

I love the shivering isles for it's difference to Cyrodiil, but I have to say Cyrodiil itself will always be the more enticing location to me - something about the atmosphere feels much more alluring. That being said, neither would be quite as good without the option to experience the contrast.

Another fantastic video, I reckon I would alternate between Bliss and Crucible if I lived in in New Sheoth, I would want to experience both lifestyles and all the aspects to it, Bliss is vibrant and fun but overstimulating, were as Crucible can be depressing and sometimes brutal but also melancholic and beautiful in its own way. If I were to compare the different sides of The Shivering Ilses to music I would say that the mania side reminds me of bands like Gryphon and Gentle Giant were as the dementia side reminds me of bands like The Cure and Siouxsie and the Banshees.

I have to admit that i feel i should replay oblivion, though i don't know if i will be able to on my modern machine as i have a laptop with windows 11 which can run oblivion obviously but not sure about compatibility :) Tempting.
