But on April 12, 2016, this was not the case for 16-year-old Mekayla Bali. When Mekayla’s grandmother dropped her off at Sacred Heart High School that morning, no one could have predicted that by day’s end, Mekayla would be reported as a missing person. Security footage of Mekayla recorded at 12:02 pm that afternoon would become the last confirmed sighting of the teenager in nearly four years. In this video, we’ll examine the unusual and heartbreaking disappearance of Mekayla Bali, and explore the most intriguing theories about why and how she vanished.

When she was at the restaurant, clearly waiting for someone, on the phone, and looking around.... i bet the guy was out there, spying from the distance, making sure it wasn’t a set up. She walks out the back door, walks on the parking lot, a few minutes later goes back to the restaurant.... i am sure he was giving her instructions to make sure she wasnt being followed... poor girl

Sounds like when she was taking her phone apart, she might've been switching the sim card for one that's linked to a different account, and that would be why her phone calls aren't recorded on her acct.

I'll bet any money that she met a boy online who was helping her orchestrate a way to meet up, tried to gather as much cash as she could for a hotel room (that's why she went to the pawn), wasn't planning on staying for more than the day (that's why she didn't take anything with her), and little did she know she was being played by a killer. She probably finally found a way to meet up with him that day, met him, and he took her. Seems too obvious to me.

The behaviour in the diner is clearly obeying instructions including getting her to book a motel room. Three phone calls, in and out, exiting out the back way and not ordering any food. Also, possibly taking out the memory card in her phone to avoid detection and the fact that whoever she was chatting to didn’t come inside for fear of being seen on CCTV is very worrying. I hope she is found safe and well soon 🙏

I live in Autria. Well, my school time is over since some years, but I stayed away from school from time to time. They never informed anyone at my home. Probaply they do in case of elementary school visitors, but above that grade, it seems very uncommon to care about that, because they think "okay, they just don´t visit school" or "they are sick, no worries". Many times in most cases they are right with this expactations, but seems to be an unworthy risk to think that way.

I live in Edmonton AB and especially in high school even junior high the parents would only receive a phone call at around 4pm after school had ended letting them know their child has missed class or multiple classes during the day, there are also free blocks and we were allowed to leave whenever we wanted and they really paid no attention to it, unfortunately at that age (in high school) it becomes the kids responsibility. Though they most likely would’ve received an automated message or email or something once school was over. The teacher would take attendance in each class and if you’re not there you’re marked absent.

That was my thought exactly, minus the sugar daddy. I thought the guy posed as someone her age. He probably had been telling her he’d deposit money into her account for a bus ticket, but just kept stringing her along until she’d agree to meet somewhere less public. When she finally agrees, she gets snatched and forced into prostitution or something. Too many stories of that kind of crap happening. A lot of people go missing in Canada, from what I hear. I hope that’s not the case, but the world isn’t a very nice place anymore.

If the person has no bad intension on you, he/she wouldn't mind you having company. And if you feel like you just had a suspicious activity with someone, in person or on the web, please do tell your parents or anyone that cares about you, about the details of your encounter. Your parents might get angry at first, but that's only because they care so much about you. But please, have the courage to tell them. It might help solve this case and many other cases like this. I believe she fell in love online with a predator. He convinced her she would escape her unhappy life. Those moments in the cafe seem like he was giving her information on what to do next and maybe had promised to meet her there but realised it was too risky. I think the moment she arrived to his destination, she regretted ever leaving. I don’t think she is alive today. She seemed like such a sweet girl. I hope they are found out soon.

The Snapchat message was opened 3 months later. If she was in access to her social media, I don't think she was dead or captive. I think she just ran away with some guy she met online.... Most probably much older or someone that she knew her family would not approve of. A case of Grooming is very possible.

She was found perfectly safe and happy years later with that man in a village few hours away from her parents house. She was massively searched for years, but she had changed her appearance so much no one recognized her I guess. The guy she was living with was kind of weird though... You can find many articles on that case , probably in french, but it gives another perspective on missing girls cases.

To be honest, all of this seems set up to me. She was being instructed to do these things. I find it odd that she randomly told two students she was going on a vacation, when she could have just texted her friend Shelby. She wanted people to think she was going on a vacation. She wanted more witnesses. Then she texted her ex and a friend that she was unhappy. That seems pretty suspicious to me. It’s almost as if she just wanted to let these people know her thoughts and plans so they will think she genuinely ran away. She didn’t run away. She was instructed to do those things, she was taken.

I believe she got caught in a sex traffic situation. The phone calls, the avoiding names of guys she’s talking to to even close friends, it all makes sense. The person on the other line had to be telling her what to do because she wasn’t acting herself so there had to be another variable in there. He told her what to say and to stage it like she was trying to leave town, I think when she asked for a hotel room from the women she wanted to either wait it out a day to make sure she wanted to meet this guy or have him meet her there so she felt more comfortable. These predators look like the victims age that’s just the guy that goes and finds the girls. Not a lot of people at that age (I didn’t even know and I’m 23) that you can take your SIM card out and switch it to make it basically a new phone. It’s highly unlikely she would’ve planned that herself and sounds way too experienced. I don’t believe she opened the last Snapchat from her friend and I don’t believe that guy saw her at the bar. I believe it was someone else who opened her phone for the last time.

Seems she was trying to be noticed for what ever reason asking a stranger to recommend a hotel is something you wouldn't expect of a teenager so it would stand out in your mind.ringing the bank three times you would be remembered. Reminds me of Andrew Gosden. No one knows why he left, where he was going (ultimately, other than he got off at Kings Cross in London), if he was asked to meet there by someone (though he was the opposite of this girl as he didn't have a phone or social media), or if he went there to commit suicide. the mother has been found time and time again to be lying about Mekayla's home life. The mother seems to be very undatable and has been found to be lying to the RCMP multiple times. Sadly it seems Mekayla was trying to get out of a bad situation and someone took advantage of her. I'm a young woman who's been to a few Tinder dates. But I investigate well my situations and have never been in danger. I'm sure. I think this happens with a specific careless behaviour. You can listen to your gut for weird signs, make clear to your family and friends who you're going to meet and where, always meet in public and make sure the person is normal, social media updating and your age. I would never meet an older man. Don't do this if you're underage. I did talk to a sketchy guy once. He didn't pass the "gut feeling" test. He wanted me to go to his home and said he couldn't do any other options. I said no and he was so sketchy he gave up. He was handsome, nearly my age and a fellow student at college. Appearence isn't everything. If you feel scared, say no. Your gut knows it better than you.

We are talking about a case that has been going for about 5 years so they must thought about that and if you are in a restaurant you won't focus on other people's conversations additionally maybe some of them didn't see her at that time. And the wisest thing the police should do is ask everyone was in the restaurant on that day so they might have done that already.

I believe she met someone online. They did not want to meet her anywhere in public and they finally convinced her to meet somewhere where there was no cameras. As soon as she did that she sealed her fate.

I suspect foul play (God forbid). She could have met someone online she shouldn't have. She could have been using that Kik app mentioned in the video, where a person would have convinced her easily (because of her naive and soft spoken nature) to skip school and meet that person (possibly in a hotel, a fact she might have deliberately hidden from the lady at the restaurant, when she asked her help in renting a hotel room). Tempted by the offer, she might have skipped school for this exact reason. The reason why she might have made the transaction of $55 puzzles me too. As far as the phone calls are concerned, I think it could have been that very anonymous person, or someone related to that person. I hope she returns home safe and sound.

this reminds me of a case of this girl who had ran away, she was groomed by an older man who made her call him daddy, follow rules, etc. she was found in Romania a little over a year after her disappearance. not sure what her name was but Mekayla's disappearance sounds like a case of grooming, an older man most likely making her feel like she had to leave her family. its so sad and i really hope she is found like the girl in Romania.

He probably pretended to deposit the 5k and when she saw it wasn't there she got desperate, it's a scam trick because once she sees it's not there all the perp has to do is give her more instructions and if she follows them she's hooked now for good psychologically he can push her where as before she may not have met a stranger at a location but now that she's desperate she may be willing to step outside her comfort zone and take a bigger risk.

I'm in the U.S. and we were able to leave whenever we wanted (even if we weren't supposed to). But you wouldn't be able to get back in, they'd lock the doors from the inside so if you had to get back in you had to buzz in. I guess it was kind of a way to try and make kids not want to leave. But a lot of us still did it and skipped classes some days lol

There are a lot of creeps out there and I would venture to say she stumbled upon one of the worst kinds. I think she was planning to run away (why else would she try to procure a hotel room, and most of all, why would she be asking about bus rates) judging by her need for money (checking her account balance, moving money around in her account, and trying to pawn a silver ring). However, I think she may have asked the wrong person for help (a ride somewhere, a few dollars, or even just directions) and they decided they wanted repayment of this favor. She was so young and naive, it's totally unfair that anyone would harm an innocent child. I pray the she is out there somewhere, safe and happy, but it's unlikely and that is heartbreaking!

whenever I see these types of videos, I always think about the question "if you could have one super-power, what would it be?" I'd always choose knowledge. Even though its probably horrible, I'd want to know what happened to all these missing people. People who disappear in the wilderness, people who make the mistake of meeting some stranger, or a person from online. It's scary to know that so many people have just vanished off the face of the earth, and there will never be any real answers.

Ok, I’m a bit upset about the online sleuths who are insinuating that “no father figure” lead to her downfall or her disappearance. I’m a single mom of a 12 year old boy. His father isn’t involved because he isn’t the greatest role model (for too many reasons to list here) but he also really doesn’t CARE to be involved. I have a great, non restrictive, and open relationship with my son and he’s grown up to be a smart, responsible, and caring young man. My Dad and brother step in as great male role models. It’s so offensive to me 😡 when others blame situations immediately on the fact that the father was absent. My son and I are a strong kick ass team, thank you very much, and frankly, we are WAY better off without him!

I 1000% understand that Fathers matter. I would give my world if my son could only have a Father who cared. He chooses to not be involved. We haven’t heard from him since 2015. Based on my experiences with him, it’s better this way. I’ve watched him pop in and out of his daughters life (while continuing to struggle with drug addiction), and watched what she went through. He doesn’t want to get sober. It would be great if he was a different person, but he’s not. So, I try my best to be both Mom & Dad. I never want my son to know (when he’s a child) that his Dad just chooses to not be involved. That is so hurtful. I also get he’s impacted. I try to be as supportive as I can, give him all the love he deserves. I can’t make his Dad want to be responsible or care 😢

Pretty simple case really. She got groomed by a guy online who was more than likely much older than what he originally said, and sadly for her, was a killer. Or became a killer. She was vulnerable, suffered with her self-esteem (flattery would have won her over easily and gained her trust) and was also desperate to leave her town. She was the perfect (easy) target for all of the psycho's online. I hope she's at peace now.

I guess she have one phone And two sim cards. That’s when she changed the SIM card and started talking over the phone That’s why they couldn’t see any calls from her sim card. Coz she used the other one .
