Even as Simone tried to reconvert, running a business deemed more "moral", he was still harassed for what he did in the past by the cancel culture of the time. If they couldn't let the man work, what was he supposed to do? That was damn cruel not to cut a break to a man who had the balls to say no to a protection racket and lost his closest friend.
@selfhealherbs13ms3 жыл бұрын
That's so true, its a cruel society even now, seem like it'll never change we have to do what society people want us to do or to be in life, thats really not freedom🤔 very sad to push people over the edge, its not right what he did but can you imagine what he was thinking about his life being destroyed because people don't approve of his life style 🤔

@davideb.42903 жыл бұрын
If I may give you a little information to better understand, here goes: the role of the clerk in those times in Italy, especially in small villages was composed of many roles, mostly: mail delivery, police duty and were generally speaking part of the communal government, and as such he was seen by Simone Pianetti (quite rightfully so if I may say) as part of the town elite who ruined his life. Also, fun fact: he was an anarchist in his younger years, which may also be the reason why the town priest hated him

The death of his son only exacerbated those feelings of defeat.

Destruction of someone's life especially their way of earning their bread is a crime. The whole village twice rejected his amazing ability to make money . This reminds me of Dogville 2003. Nobody was generous enough to allow someone independent to be themselves. Some ... like to cut a flower of beauty in jealousy . Some people will love to see someone they are jealous of be demised. Having a team of dispirited people against one non criminal recorded person.... Will create the true Outlaw's.

This man's son's version was probably the most likely story as to what really happened to him as he would be the one to know more. Too bad, because he seemed to be an honest man just trying to make a living for himself in New York when extortioners threatened him, which forced him to go back to Italy where he also encountered problems of another variety (standing out as being different from the others and the locals gossiping about it) which caused him to get a bad reputation and then lose all his customers and business. Those people did wrong him, I think, but they didn't see the effects of what they did coming. I think it would have been better for him to have learned English, then left Italy to come back to the U. S. and found some entrepreneurial work in another city besides NYC, where the people were not known for being corrupt and were also more open-minded so that his talents would have been appreciated more--maybe San Francisco. With a changed venue and with his enterprising nature, he could have become successful in making a fortune over here instead of becoming a fugitive where he was at.

Violence is never the answer but I do feel sympathy for his POV.
@brianedwards71423 жыл бұрын
@Nubiamancy Violence only creates more violence in response and is often counter-productive. For example this guy had to spend his life on the run.

Wrong. It should always be the last resort but sometimes it's the only answer. If it was never the answer you would have never had the American revolution.
@brianedwards71423 жыл бұрын
@@markcarpenter6020 Oh dear, how terrible that technical treason on the other side of the world to me would never have happened. America is a land locked pirate vessel built on blood and plunder. It's inception could be the worst thing to happen to the world since the collapse of the Golden Horde.
@markcarpenter60203 жыл бұрын
@@brianedwards7142 lol. One man's treason is another man's fight for freedom. If you don't like the US you have two options. Do something about it or get out of the way. Whining about it online is just pathetic.

@@markcarpenter6020 Spoken like a true bully. Did I throw shade on your sacred cow? I rest my case. You sound like a guy who used to make speeches in Nuremberg.

106+ years ago it was way easier to completely disappear, than it would be today. I would say that he probably did take his own life, what with the fact that he was Tried in Absentia.
