I absolutely loved The Stranger & glad Netflix made it available otherwise I may not have found it. Very much in that specific dark & subtlety nuanced tone of crime thriller that is rare but so genuinely rewarding. All character & atmosphere driving the narrative. Little to no exposition dialogue. Pace, tone & score that really pulls you in and demands you pay attention to subtle gestures and multiple layers of meaning etc. You're not really sure of the plot until about halfway through and then everything starts to fit together.

Thanks Netflix, I stumbled upon this and gave it a go, not knowing it's a hidden gem. Holy shit, why isn't everyone talking about it? It's criminally underrated.

I went in cold and loved it. Was very confused for a while, wasn't fully sure if the WHOLE thing was undercover or just the 1 guy until it was explained .

I went to see The Outwaters tonight and was pretty impressed & satisfied. I think I'll actually enjoy it more on a second viewing, as with all "found footage" much of the experience is a focused patience and a skeptical frustration as to whether or not the film is justified, filmmaker has any unique vision, something new to attempt with a tired overdone form. I think The Outwaters definitely carved out a unique space for an experiment in sonic chaos & cosmic terror.
