I was 12 and wanted the sims 2, but it was rated teens and when they looked at KZbin videos to see the content they found this and a few other creator-made videos with the characters talking in English about “inappropriate” things. I remember my mom showing me part of a video where the voiceover was someone calling another sim a bitch, and my mom said THIS is what you want to play?! I said that was just a video someone made but my boomer parents couldn’t understand the difference between the legit game and fan content. I think that was part of the point. There were overly dramatic shows at the time that despite having starting in reality would go off the rails into absurdity that were hard to follow. Rooster Teeth started off with making a Halo machinima called Red vs Blue, which honestly turned into a pretty interesting show that developed quite the narrative, but it was also pretty problematic to the point where they have apparently gone back and censored the earliest seasons on the internet. I say "on the internet" because Red vs Blue also sold DVDs, so the original uncensored release with all of the offensive jokes and scenes is still floating around out there. As far as the Kdin situation is concerned, it really says something that members of Achievement Hunter apologized to her privately and she rejected the apologies from most of them. One of the apologies she accepted was from Michael Jones, which I honestly find good to hear and it gives me hope at least for him, considering Michael's spouse, Lindsay, came out as nonbinary some time back. I think a lot of Rooster Teeth got stuck in the past, to be honest. In a much more serious episode of Achievement Hunter's Off Topic podcast, Geoff Ramsey talked about his realization that the company was stuck in an archaic mindset of early 2000s internet culture and how trying to ignore offensive and abusive language does not work.

Dutchmiller's quote of "There no 'I' in team but there is a 'me' if you re-arrange the letters" has stuck in my mind for almost two decades. Also the concept of Hollywood running out of ideas is becoming worryingly close to reality. Also no mention of Strangerhood Studios? It was a short spin off where the characters attempted to make a movie. They're slightly different from their main series counterparts and its just a total mess of a show.

Thanks for covering this and sitting through it all to bring some closure to the story. Glad to know they did eventually resolve it. Maybe I should have been more patient. I didn’t realize it was supposed to be funny. I don’t remember laughing and thinking it was funny when I watched it, but that’s not really saying much. I liked the first few seasons of Red vs Blue back in the day (although I doubt they hold up now), so I was genuinely so hyped when they announced this series 😬 It wasn't just that I was a much bigger fan of The Sims than Halo, but also because I was excited about the possibilities The Sims would open up for the team in terms of the visual storytelling. Like, Halo is not a game made to tell stories, so RvB can be kinda boring to look at. I felt like the wild animations of TS2 would pair perfectly with their narrative style, plus they could obviously add in whatever custom stuff they wanted too. To their credit, the show did end up being visually pretty fun. It just didn't outweigh how much I hated the writing on almost every level. It's not much of a parody if the point you're making with your stereotypes isn't any deeper than "these are good, actually" 🙄 My sense of humour has definitely improved since then, so imagine how bad a show has to be to come across as tired and ignorant to a 19-year-old in 2004! The terrible pacing made it feel like a show that didn't know where it was going or how to have much fun along the way, so I couldn't get through the season and definitely had no idea there was a second. Incredible timing on this video btw - my brother and I were just talking the other day about what a swing and a miss this show was, and I was almost tempted to have another crack at it myself. Thank you for diving on that grenade for me, ahaha 💀

I watched at least the first couple episodes when it came out way back when and I couldn’t tell you a single thing about it EXCEPT that in one of those episodes a character (Dutchmiller?) does the smarmy pointing thing at a mailbox and goes "MAILBOX, AYYY" and I think of this half the time I see a mailbox to this day, send help

Sounds like Dutchmiller. He's the stereotype of a yuppie dialed up so much it almost makes you wonder how he even functions.
