In 2009 the NFL moved one of the New York games to 1 ET to accommodate Yom Kippur, even though the other New York team was playing at that same time. Since then both New York teams have been allowed to play at the same time.

I remember that game, that day was sloppy on the field, because it was raining so much. Bonus for the Giants and Eagles game moved from 4:15 to 1:05 on November 1st, was because of the World Series on the same Philly Complex.

That was because the NFL was further modifying the rule with regards to blackouts. This for the most part eliminated the need to put the Jets or Giants at 4:05 PM ET.

Plus they almost lost to the Bucs that year. The closet game the Bucs had that year. They got really embrassed, and it was so bad that a pissed Don Shula told NFL Films not to show any highlights of that game. The only game that the Bucs played well in '76.

@@aboriginalbrotha9947 Was just one of those years. 2 wins against Buffalo automatic in the 70's, Garo missing extra points in 2 games that cost Miami possible wins, (KC & Cleveland), the penalty against Miami on F. Solomon's 80 yard punt return TD negated and then at the end of the game running on 4th & 1 at the Cleveland 5 but a season of ups and downs. 7 defensive starters out for the year because of injuries that year didn't help either. Scott, Anderson, Nick Buon., Fernandez, etc. Not to mention that atrocious second half collapse against the Rams. But that's football. Shula bounced back with some shrewd trades and good draft picks, unlike the mid to late 80's!!! But I have to stop, I could talk vintage Dolphins for hours!!!

only problem was Rosenbloom swapped ownership of the Rams with Bob Irsay in 1972..and just 12 years later, in came the Mayflower trucks. You have to wonder what happens if the Colts don't lose Super Bowl III on so many levels..merger with AFL, Shula likely doesn't leave Baltimore for Miami in 1970, Joe Namath perhaps not making the HOF, Colts staying in Baltimore, etc.

An interesting scheduling quirk I’d love to see you research - John Elway and Dan Marino played in the same conference concurrently for 15 years, yet the Broncos and Dolphins only met head to head in the regular season twice during this time. I know the scheduling formula was different back then, but this seems bizarre that two of the greatest QBs of all time who played in the same conference for their entire careers faced off so infrequently.

Given how the Jewish calendar works, any Sunday early afternoon game, Thursday night game (assuming kickoff after sundown) or Monday night game (assuming kickoff after sundown) would not conflict with Yom Kippur. It's just the later afternoon slot and Sunday night games that would have this problem.

@@quantumfootball That's because the 1st day of Rosh Hashanah would be on Saturday night/Sunday day, which would also put a major holiday on the day after Sabbath. (The 2nd day of Rosh Hashanah is not as major a holiday as the 1st day and often does fall on the day before or after Sabbath.)

Remember the famous double-overtime playoff game where the Dolphins beat the Chiefs, a game that was played on Christmas Day? NBC got so many complaints about the game ruining Christmas dinner in the Eastern and Central time zones because the game ended at nearly 9 pm Eastern time that day. If Vikings/Dolphins goes to Week 2, the Vikings would've had to start the season with 3 straight road games (visiting the Saints in Week 1 and the Lions in Week 3) unless some other games were moved around, so I'm not sure just moving the 3 games mentioned here would've been that cut and dry. For all you Christians that are incensed that the NFL plays on Sundays or Christmas day you need a history lesson. Up until 1960, the NFL actually avoided playing their Championship game on Christmas. Lookup when the 1960 championship game was played. It was the day AFTER Christmas. That was changed by the CHRISTIANS that ran the NFL. As for playing on Sunday in the first place, the Sports Broadcasting Act was passed in 1961, which made SUNDAYS, the only day for professional football broadcasts with some exceptions. Congress and the President at the time were majority Christians. So don't be blaming Sunday games and Christmas games on the Jews. Because THAT IS antisemitism.
