When I was 16 I was convinced to try Salvia. It was legal at the time, and I thought it was similar to other... herbs I enjoyed at the time. So this is my PTSD experience. I sat on a couch with a small water pipe, packed the tiny metal bowl full with 21 x concentrated salvia. I ripped the bowl, held it in, and almost immediately the most strange sense of disassociation took over me. It kind of felt like I was remembering an old secret that caused reality to unzip. Before that aspect of it took over complete control of my consciousness, I experienced the ultimate feeling of Deja Vu. As I attempted to say "I think I'm having Deja Vu-" my vision went like a rolodex calendar, everything went on a stuttering loop. Then there was nothing ness. Suddenly I felt like a fly on a string being spun in circles by a giant hand. I was spinning and spinning and began slowing down. It felt like I was a bird flying overhead a parallel earth with all the roofs of the houses missing. I zoomed into one of the houses. I'll never forget how specific it was. Checkerboard black and white tiles, I was in a kitchen, and there was a woman washing dishes in the kitchen. I remember seeing people that I associated with that Doctor Who episode with the living plastic [ I saw the episode years later and had a flashback]; they had creepy, fake smiles that had a nefarious feeling to them. Like they were waiting for something terrible to happen to me but were enjoying it. It felt kind of like I was suddenly in a living commercial and was locked into a "conveyor belt" waiting for my turn to do my role in the commercial. There was the worst feeling of absolute terror. Like an overwhelming sense of needing to escape but not being able to do so. I had no memory of this plane, I had no connection to here. Time did not exist the same there, and when it was my turn to say the catchphrase of the commercial I knew deep down that as soon as I said the phrase reality would end. Not like doomsday prophecy. I'm talking reality being a blanket that someone eventually rolls up and you are a part of it. As soon as I was up to say the phrase I fought with all of my will to not speak. Then it was as if I threw up giant, plastic, block letters I couldn't control. It was a combination of feeling like you realized your head is fused to a train track and the train is about to arrive, horror beyond reason, and unzipping from your mouth as everything unfolded and then collapsed like a dead star. All things got sucked into void. everything was crushed and reduced to nothing. Then I woke up to the beginning of that loop. That happened to me for what felt like years and years. I was the corner of the wall, unable to move and terrified. As the trip died down, I suddenly woke up in a yellow room. Imagine you were in a fish tank the size of a room filled with yellow latex. Then imagine someone pulled the plug at the bottom and as everything drained all physical objects took shape, but remained the same color of yellow with no life in it. Once the entire room rendered like a video game, there was a POP sound and all the color and life entered the room again. I had no knowledge of who I was, how to speak english. I was drooling and vacant. It was like my soul left my body and forgot where it was. I tried to do this multiple times, attempting to understand what that was, if it was real, and why it felt like a pocket dimension. Conclusion: pretty sure it's an astral projection herb that can send you anywhere like RNG in a game. I have met multiple people in my life years later I had never met before, they felt familiar, and would end up asking if they smoked salvia only to find they would usually describe the same place and a similar trip. It spooked me tf out. Still does. Like it is a real place you can get stuck in on an astral level.

My jaw fell as I was reading your report. Oh. My. God. Man! For sure I heard many many stories about how to extend life here on Earth. Just smoke Salvia, they say. I never a never will understand such a power of this herb. Power, that can twist time like another button. On top of that button, there may be higher buttons. I think that this reality is getting crazier than we could even comprehend. I think it's simply not possible. I think we all are NPCs in some sense and there is many people that think so. I think there must be some kind of string. Something like consciousness that is like a chain. That chain has parts and every part of it has its unique reality and that reality experiences itself? I caught myself questioning myself, haha.

I remember the unzipping feeling. Could you feel it physically? I can't really explain it, but I felt like I myself was being unzipped--not exactly my physical body, in the physical realm, but on a different level of reality. So it didn't really feel painful, exactly, but I could feel myself unzipping with reality.

First time I used Salvia, I was alone in my apartment at night. I mixed it with weed and took deep inhales from my pipe. Felt weird but I thought it was weak, so I took another hit and BOOM! I became my mattress for what seemed like forever. I was completely convinced that I was a mattress for eternity. I went through the entire cycle of being manufactured, sold at a store, shipped to a house, and sat on (amongst other things).

@Dippmip I didn't time it, but I'd say somewhere around 10 minutes. It felt waay longer, but I was watching Family Guy before I smoked it and when I came to, the same episode was still on. And no, it wasn't traumatizing, just really bizarre. I've done it a few times since then, because it does have a strange type of appeal. And it's legal where I'm at so it's about as easy to get as a beer.

As long as you stick to plain leaf in a meditative setting (even smoked or vaporized), the risks are minimal. You can absolutely explore this safely by yourself, just don't do massive doses. The one thing you'll see in virtually every negative salvia trip report is that they smoked "a bowl" of "extract", while a normal first time dose would've probably been a few flakes. With plain leaf you can't get to those doses, it's just physically impossible. That said, plain leaf can still produce intense experiences, if you aim for it, where you're completely detached from consensus reality and don't recall being human. For therapeutic/meditative use you don't need much. Even a threshold dose is usually enough, depending on the type of work you're doing. Think of it as peeling back layers of your perception. In a lot of cases it's helpful to briefly take away the emotional layer (one of the first things to go), so that you get a different perspective. There are reasons to go deeper, but it's not always necessary or helpful. Low doses of salvia are much more forgiving than low doses of traditional psychedelics, in my experience. Traditional psychedelics tend to shove your problems in your face, salvia let's you view them clearly from a distance. The Mazatec approach has some positives, but it's also very wasteful and aimed at threshold experiences. Their aversion to smoking comes mostly from the sudden onset, which can be easily mitigated by doing repeated lower doses instead of a single big one. If it was really about the fire, vaporizing it wouldn't be an issue, even though that gives identical or even stronger results (besides the lack of harsh smoke). It's like with any new substance. Look up a dosage chart and the expected effects. Find a suitable set and setting, start at a threshold dose. Salvia isn't scary, abusing salvia is. Then again, eating 50 grams of dried mushrooms on your first ever trip probably wouldn't be fun either.
@JaapGrootveld

The Mazatec warn strongley not to smoke it. And you give information that you even don't need a trip sitter....While everyone who smokes it is overwelmd and in response gets up and wants to run.

My first time using Salvia, I turned into a chainlink fence made out of chocolate on a hot, sunny day. I was the fence at an elementary school near where I grew up. I had taken Amanita muscaria and smoked weed earlier that day before smoking Salvia, too. I saw pastel colored beach pales floating around my room by the thousands in liquid-esque, swirling patterns/currents all around me. My room also broke apart into shattered sections like a kaleidoscope. I was eating Riesen chocolates before I took the Salvia 😂 I also forgot that I was a human and even went blank for a while. Felt like dying, I assume. I have done it several times because I wanted to face death more than once. At lower doses, I just laugh and laugh in slow-motion speech, and it's very pleasant and euphoric. I have had one really bad trip where I was tied to a torture wheel, and witches or some type of evil elves were taunting me and torturing me. They were spinning me around and around on the wheel as they tightened me and stretched me more and more. It was really just the picnic table digging into my back as I sat there. I smoked it in the middle of the woods up in a mountain park at midnight. Really creepy experience. There are different qualities, so a 10x from one manufacturer can be similar to another supposed "100x." [Salvia Supply] had high-grade extracts back in the day when compared with other brands.

I’ve worked with this teacher about a dozen times, smoked fast onset. It’s special enough that I’m very careful and considerate about visiting it. Its teaching is about dissolving the self, yet remaining a point of consciousnesses. It’s very very weird, and has some heavy dysphoria. You get this feeling of ‘dread oh god no what have I done!!!’ With experience you just sit with the dead and accept it, it’s her way of insisting on respect. It’s like sitting before a massive and advanced super being, a celestial goddess. You shall be humbled before her, as she teaches you incomprehensible lessons. Visuals - as if being trapped in acrylic. Electromagnetic fields pressing in on you. Feelings of wind blowing when there is none. Feelings of spinning and acceleration which while sitting still. Reality disintegrating into minty fresh electronic noise…. Low doses - a greatly enhanced sense of your body’s electric fields, pleasant electric tactile sensitivity. Sex is intense

Thanks so much for making this video, Tom. Salvia divinorum is one of the most misunderstood plants out there, and I really appreciate you sharing such a balanced perspective on it. A lot of people struggle with it because they don’t fully understand how to approach it, and instead of looking at their mindset, they blame the plant for their difficult experiences. Personally, Salvia is my favorite-it's truly incredible and so healing for me. When mastered, it can be just as euphoric, if not more so, than classical psychedelics. It’s fascinating because I’ve actually reached a point where, every time I use Salvia, it feels like I’m returning to a familiar, loving place-one that has always been there, far before we ever existed. I really wish there was more research and replications online, or if only I could draw to better communicate these experiences with others.

I felt like I was leaving the room through the window and into the starry night sky we had. I went deeper and deeper into space, contemplating the dorm window getting smaller and smaller, and felt like I was perceiving the 4th dimention, hard to express this feeling with words. And apparently while tripping I laughed, man I laughed like a super villain, non stop, that’s what my friends told me. When I returned to reality, I couldn’t believe how lucky I was to be back. I became a giant colorful moving machine while on salvia once. It was kind of uncomfortable at first but then I relaxed let go and just went with it. I could feel my lips and limbs stretching into the gears and parts. Then I found myself looking at the machine and the trip started wearing off and I was standing trying to change the music playing through my phone. I was tapping and swiping it to no avail.

yo Tom, after watching 11 minutes of this, I have come to the realisation that you might like the idea of us becoming mates. I have done Salvia and it is truly a wonderful plant, but many years have passed since and this is the best video about it I have come across. I think this is a good time to take life back into my own hands, so to speak, and would love to be hearing from you. Of course I have to finish watching now so... so long.. and thx 4 this

One time i ended up in a stone and crystal cathedral train station, and i missed my train hundreds of times because the train conductor who has also made of crystal and stone said i was late and didn't have my ticket ready in time, but dont worry, its just a joke after all! If you know you know 😂

Knew what drug you were talking about from the title, because I've seen SEVERAL people think they were stuck in the walls, or couches or chairs, or thought THEY were the floor, or chair they were sitting on. Yep. Super common report. That never happened to me, though my trips were strange and interesting none the less.

I already knew what it was. I turned into a fax machine. The reason it's not fun is because it stimulates the bad receptors, ones associated with dysphoria. Also, you're not supposed to smoke it like people do, that's part of the problem.

Hey could you do now make a video about amanita muscaria/pantherina ? This is also a very strange psychedelic, I've done it two times in high dosage and this was crazy, very intense time distortions, crazy dreams, dissociation from the reality, hallucinations, extreme confusion. I'm planning to do another experience with a trip sitter to test my mental faculties on the influence of mushroom. could you also talk about empathogenic and dissociatives substances ?

amanita is an atypical dissociative / deliriant, not a psychedelic, its activity is on nmda, gaba receptors, and anticholinergic receptors

salvia is extremely crazy. it can be terrifying, I had a panick attack on my first time, lying in bed, stood up and walked downstairs and outside walking helps a lot against the panic but also what helped me was sleeping, waking up in the middle of the night, smoking a bong head of salvia and lying in bed again. the melatonine takes care of the panic and I had really fun internal rollercoaster type experiences. i also once was a wheel of time. like a book and the pages flip, you need to go forward in time, if you stay stationary you die. breathing keeps you moving. this was so intense and archaic, the wheel was horrifying too. but intense. i can recommend the drawings of "salvia droid", they are very accurate I think the kappa-opiod receptors take care of the "holding together" of your senses. this is gone, so the perception of your senses can be infinitely looped, like a landscape of your body. you are suddenly there but you are a wall of your arm or something, like you stand next to yourself, you are very far but also close. it can be completely scary but I think it is magic. it is just soo fascinating how your consciousness can change.

I was eating while watching this. During the middle section I suddenly had a flashback of one of my ayahuasca experiences. I stopped eating. I'm still shaking a bit. I realized, we have no freaking idea of how much we forget of our experiences in those realms. If we remembered, we probably wouldn't do it again. The weird thing is, trying to cling onto that flashback or memory doesn't work. I lost it again a second after it. But that rush of adrenaline and fear I def remember.

Looking back at my youth, I was reckless and I am lucky I never hurt myself. We would smoke the extract, and it was always uncomfortable in some way. Yet I did it on several random occasions, because it was novel and available/legal at the time. One of the things I find most interesting about breakthrough psychedelic and dissociative experiences are the common and shared archetypes and visions. One of the users said salvia would always “turn everything yellow” and bring back childhood memories. I’ve had both of those happening with salvia at the exact same time. I was first in a golden desert in Egypt, then transported to a nursery where I was a baby and I sensed a gigantic, mean caregiver coming through the door. I told my friend to scoot over on the couch, and he multiplied infinitely. I was stuck in a time loop of my saying “Kris, scoot over.” There’s nothing like that stuff.

I did the 4x extract once.. salvia's biggest problem is that it's not a particularily pleasant experience. Felt a bit what pulling the power plug on your brain might be like.. there is no time, there is no you, nothing makes sense and r=the concept of reality, things, being a thing, all disappear, then gradually come back. it was ok, would not do again tho :P

I also turned into a wooden chair when smoking salvia extract. It was terrifying at first because I k ew I had done this to myself. Then after what felt like maybe an hour, I accepted that it wasn’t so bad being a chair and that things could’ve gone a lot worse. At least I was still ‘me’. I looked up at the wall in the room that I was sitting in (as a chair, not the real room) and I saw a familiar photo of myself and my sister as kids. Then, the whole room turned into a huge blanket and wrapped me up in complete calmness before I returned to reality. I experimented with it a lot over the next few months but nothing was as crazy as that experience. Although the experiences were crazy, they weren’t overly enjoyable and I wasn’t learning anything new about myself so I just called it a day on that substance.

I remember when it was available in stores, underwhelming. But some friends dropped by with the real stuff... I arrived in the back of a school bus while I falling into tunnel vision. Then, being ripped out the back emergency door (as I stomped a heavy wood table across the room in reality), it became pitch black with an electric-blue outline of a chickadee chirping a verse from "This Is The End" in Jim Morrison's voice. I came back, grabbed the PS3 controller, and continued to play GTA as if nothing happened...

When I did salvia reality literally split in 2. I was looking at my friend and a horizontal line formed in the middle of my vision, like multiplayer split screen. The top half moved left, the bottom half moved right, like 2 trains leaving in opposite directions. What was left behind the only way I can describe it was a circus realm with red and yellow colors and a lot of noise it was so loud. Reality just up and left in 2 different directions. I dont remember much after that but I do remember seeing something like the looney tunes rings zooming in at me, just before the music starts at the start of an episode. Over and over. Honestly it really wasn't pleasant and I don't recommend it.

One of my favorite reports of all time is of Salvinorum B Ethoxymethyl Ether. There’s only like 2 reports in the entire internet it’s very obscure and rare. It’s an analogue of salvia that lasts like 3+ hours and is supposed to be way stronger. In the erowid trip report the guy tripping basically gets transported to the 1950s like legit time travel shi and he comes to like 3 hours after dosing. Very interesting report I recommend looking into it fs really interesting stuffs

I was like, maybe he will talk about DPT because it is one of the strongest serotoninergic psychedelics that exist or some abomination like Bromo-dragonFLY, but it's salvia. Salvia for me is not a "classic psychedelic" because salvinorin A has very different unique pharmacodynamics. Some people even classified it as dissociative (against not the classic one)

My Salvia experience was not very spectacular. I chewed as much as I could and sipped tea as much as possible (no extract). For 1 hour I felt very dysphoric, depressed and as if nothing could ever bring joy. To a small extent I also saw a bit of geometry and felt like I was merging with the surroundings. But one of the most interesting things about Salvia is how different experiences can be.
