A lot of women don't feel comfortable in a regular gym due to harassment, judgement, and a male dominated environment. It makes sense that they'd make secondary places that do silly or experimental exercises to get their exercise fix and bond with other women. Me and many of my afab friends don't feel comfortable in a contemporary gym space. Not to mention that a lot of these women are middle-aged, might've had children and likely cannot work-out the same way they did when they were younger. These all are really silly but like Jacob said, in the end all that matters is people are taking care of their bodies and health.

Get off social media, you have brainworms. I go to the gym and there are plenty of women and men working out. Noone cares or is judging you. Everyone is focused on themselves for the most part.

Yesss the first thing I noticed with the classes was that it was mostly women, sign me up! The gym is fine but I always feel uncomfortable. Going when it’s mostly empty helps but it’s almost worse when it’s just me (afab) and 1 or 2 men. Also a lot of the machines are just too big for me and I’m not a small frame by any means.

I agree. Like these workouts actually look so fun icl and these people are getting exercise in a way that they enjoy. Women will get shouted at for being unfit and then made fun of when they’re at the gym, doing these workouts AND doing traditional workouts.

One thing I’ve learned on my fitness journey: If I show up to a gym class and the little old white ladies are there, I know that shit goes hard. They’re in the yoga classes, the Zumba classes, the various Aqua fitness classes…they know what’s fun, effective, low-impact, and scalable with age/fitness level. Plus they’re so supportive and they never bother with the goofy/dangerous trends.

I worked in a retirement home where we do “chair exercises” because of the different range of motions. Now when I look at exercises I look through the lens of “how accessible is this for people?” And I bet some of these would be so good for people with disabilities- esp the cardio ball one

Right? I had to relearn how to walk after a coma, and I was lucky enough to be able to do a portion of my physical therapy in the water. It really helped me get a full range of motion back while building up strength thanks to the buoyancy. I know it gets stereotyped as something that's for old ladies, but maybe check out water aerobics? It seems kind of similar to the stuff I had to work on that was helpful

Seriously. I have a knee that gets easily messed up from playing tournament softball growing up, and literally every workout I can find includes squats. i gotta say, i tried going to the gym and absolutely hated it. everything is loud, chaotic, and it feels like im being judged by people who are more experienced than me. the only places where i’ve felt truly comfortable working out were pilates, pole dancing and water gymnastics. the soaring and trampoline workouts might look silly as hell, but i can bet that they are effective. i’ve tried a trampoline lesson once and i didn’t last five minutes, my balance was so off that those bars could’ve lowkey saved me from possibly falling face first on the floor if i stayed there for longer.

Those bungee classes are fun! I had a friend talk me into going to a couple. Even though it's low impact(due to your bodyweight being held up partially by bungees), it's a great way to get that cardio and a little strength training! Also, the flying around part was MAGNIFICENT. Edit: spelling

I totally get what you mean, and I'm glad you found something that works for you! I also want to say to you and to anyone else reading this that the gym is usually (though I don't know your actual location, of course) pretty supportive. You might feel like people are judging you, but 99 out of 100 times they really aren't. It just takes some getting used to, but I've found that people are a lot nicer than you'd think, especially to beginners. The stereotype is that gym people are mean, but I've never found that to be true!

Some of these are a little dangerous (like the dude jumping around the gym like a weird little spider), some are really pervy and weird (like the spread-eagle lady), but some of these aren't problematic or anything. Silly or cringe or whatever, at least they're being active and harmless. If I could go flying around as a way to be fit, why not? It looks really fun! Also, as someone who can't work out because of various mental disorders keeping me from focusing on 1 second of Jumping Jack (and also I have a hand disability so I cannot hold weights or do pushups), I dance as a workout. There is nothing wrong with unconventional workouts as long as you're happy and you're not getting in the way of anyone else. And let's maybe stop recording people at the gym without their consent? That's why I don't go to gyms in the first place lol. (Thanks for calling those folks out, Jacob!)

@@blue-dabad33 Well, its cardio, so its generally pretty high impact - jumping up and down, doing these dancing, flying, running around moves, and also at the same time you have to basically fight against the tension of a rope - the way people in the video can soar is that the rope bring them back when they jump out. If you're interested I would recommend, but also this rope gets atrached to your waist and it can be a bit uncomfortable to the stomach sometimes. I would recommend search videos of bungee workouts before going💖

I'm in OT school and the main part of what we do is to find a way for our patients to get back to what they like doing, so we are always thinking of ways to modify things. I think things like the trampoline and moon boot classes are a GREAT idea to help people truly enjoy working out!! They're super creative and they prevent exercise from becoming stale and repetitive which is often the case when going to the gym and doing the same workouts. Plus you get to listen to music and it looks like everyone is having a ton of fun. People also do things like these classes and aqua aerobics because it's easier on the joints while still getting great cardio in. Honestly I might sign up for a trampoline class lol

Hey there, that first clip was from Pound Fitness, and I was an instructor for the longest time (before my gym dropped my class). It's a super effective HIIT workout with ab, leg, and glute work and ridiculous cardio. Its super deceiving to see from the outside, but SO tough! Don't knock it til you try it! Also, it's super adaptive and able to be differentiated for different populations, abilities, etc. It makes exercise really accessible like other people mentioned about these "unconventional" seeming workouts.

The most important thing for me about these exercises is that they look fun as hell, and finding a workout that's fun is so much more important than one that's "optimal" because that's the one you're going to stick to. **deletes paragraph** 😅 I am someone who has multiple autoimmune diseases that forced me to quit dancing. I was a competitive dancer for 13 years, but my doctor said if I wanted to walk when I was 30, I had to stop. So naturally, I gained quite a bit of weight and got quite out of shape. However, I found aerial fitness. Specifically bungee fitness. It helps me so much. My knees are shit and I can actually do squats and other things I couldn’t do before because of bungee fitness. I also do pole fitness. I have gained so much muscle back and my body is doing so much better and my doctor is okay with everything. I am very protective of my workout classes because they have helped me so much since I cannot physically do “normal” workouts. I’m so happy that you made the final statement you did regarding people doing whatever makes them feel good.

The trampoline workout looks EXHAUSTING tbh! good for all of them, finding a way to be healthy that doesn’t feel like a punishment is so important!!!

If you're moving your body and getting your heart rate up you're working out. Just gotta be careful you aren't doing something that can hurt you.

why do you even care that it’s “silly”? As long as people are moving and getting their blood pumping, why does it matter? many women don’t feel comfortable in male dominated spaces.

Ngl I wish I could go and do some silly gym workout, but I have absolutely no coordination to rhythm based exercises and I know I'd make a fool of myself. It does look super fun though (like the trampoline ones) and I know I'd work up a good sweat. It's definitely silly but hey, if it works, why not? You're helping your body stay in shape or get into shape and be healthy, that's all that matters for sure

A lot of these look really fun idk why some people are like "white women do anything but actually workout" just let people exercise in a way that they enjoy and find fun?? They're getting exercise and they're enjoying it. Where's the problem???
