tbh if he's not eating primarily roots, nuts, berries, and other stuff gathered/cultivated by his wife and the other women and/or children and possibly disabled people in his community; living in a tribe where they raise each other's kids mostly in common and share most things (possibly with a loosely matriarchal power structure); living a life of seasonal, sustainable migration patterns following their game's migration; and shitting on the ground, behind a bush or something, then he's not really *ancestor living* in all seriousness, it's the same old issues you get with stuff like the Paleo diet; you can't aim to live like a caveman/prehistoric or "primitive" human in one aspect of your life, but not take into account how other factors in your life differ from the conditions early humans lived in, if you want to replicate the physical and mental state of early humans (which you probably wouldn't *want* to do anyway - modern medicine and modern shelter are pretty great - but yeah).

They don't want any phones or "EMFs" in their home, but there is a lot of wiring in their home to get their lights, the heating, sauna (in their bathroom and their closet), and, among other things not shown, their computers working. He has a suppressed M4 platform rifle with a rifle light and a Holosun sight. He eats, and makes his family eat, raw beef fairly consistently. All because "ancestral living". Because our ancestors really liked going "hunting" with semi-auto rifles; eating the ground meat and bone marrow from their hunt raw and/or cooked with cheese with pine cones, bacon strips, and avocado; and drag steel plates around their mansion grounds to end up at their home gyms. Him and his wife (holistic dentist, btw), 100% subscribe to this nonsense. Their kids don't have a choice.

He never said he gave up modern life. He’s saying he’s cutting out bad things about it. And bringing in the concepts of “ancestral living” that he believes were beneficial that ppl don’t get today. Not literally. Why is that so hard to grasp? You assume how that house is constructed, and can’t imagine that they modified things in order to MINIMIZE exposure, I would bet if you asked they’d tell you. But I’m going to assume they have. Based on all the other efforts they have put into their house and life. I agree the kids should not have to eat that way 1000%.

@@bigbearkat2010 The funniest part about the guys that idolize Ron Swanson is that they _STILL_ have no idea that the character is satirical and he's totally making fun of them. In reality, Nick Offerman is a goofy, kind-hearted, gentle, confident, non-alpha man (which ironically makes him kind of "alpha" in his own way. The mustache doesn't hurt either, I suppose!). (granted, Ron Swanson isn't _only_ played for satire. He is also a fleshed out character who grows as a person over the course of the show and becomes a human being that is [at least marginally] closer to resembling the person who plays the character) Edit: Kinda reminds me of all the conservatives that are somehow still unaware that Stephen Colbert's character on "The Colbert Report" was making fun of them. There's some guy out there with a Colbert Report poster in his basement who remembers that show fondly (because he genuinely thinks Colbert was unironically agreeing with him) and that will never not be the funniest thing of all time. Did they not realize that it was a comedy show? _On Comedy Central?_

This "going back to our roots" is such a nonsense, classist fad. You think ANYONE in wartorn Africa wouldn't kill for a bed and safe drinking water? Or for a parent who wasn't weird and out of breath all the time? I once slept in a winter coat in -20 degree weather because we were squatting in our own home. You think the Liver King would say that was an effective use of cold? Also: as someone who took a few classes in college: he does realize humanity wasn't a monolith, right? That the hunter-gather mentality was common... until agriculture made it so you could delegate certain tasks and have a more communal and permantment settlement. He understands that the invention of fortified rice, enriched breads, and canned foods like... saved millions, if not billions, of people? Our ancestors would just be disappointed in him, in my opinion. Like having an ancestor who died of polio and still being antivax, it's just ignorance... and someone needs to make sure his kids get the proper therapy when their dad's body fails and he pops like Alex Jones talking about gay frogs.

As a historian, you're right! Also hunter-gatherers ate like, so many plants. Thats the gatherer part. This man's ideas have nothing to do with history or archeology, he has some warped idea of what it means to be a 'real' human and has cherrypicked vague and mostly debunked theories to base his life on. Like how the cold is good for you, or that hunter-gatherers ate raw meat. I'm just worried about those kids tbh - if they're growing up eating no vegetables and not brushing their teeth they're in for a harsh life, health wise. Why is living like a caveman so ideal? Life expectancy increased significantly because we don't live like that anymore. Also, man, I feel sorry for his kids. Yeah... Liver has a lot of easily accessible nutrients so it can be a pretty healthy part of your diet, but it's not the kind of food you should have in copious amounts or more often than one or two times a week, since it's really high in the kind of vitamin A that our bodies needs more time to metabolize than the kind of vit A you get from plant based food. Several of his recommendations contain health risks(like not brushing your teeth... This is not just something we do for fresh breath, keeping cavities and infections at bay is beneficial for your overall health, and bad dental health is tied to a myriad of other bullshit.) but they're more "slow cookers" since his followers would have to do these things for a long period of time before it starts affecting their health negatively. The liver thing is more acutely dangerous, if you OD on that shit you're going to the ER tonight.

Considering that humans initially evolved and spent a lot of time in sub-Saharan Africa, and that we have evolved qualities like having less fur and sweating more than most mammals... Alright so the mouth-sun thing is not true and I’m medical student, so let me explain. Dental Carries (cavities) are causes by the break down of enamel by bacteria. These bacteria (streptococcus mutans mostly, but there are other ones too) are natural inhabitants of our mouths and build up throughout the day/night and form plaque around themselves to keep them safe. These bacteria create acidic by-products through their metabolic processes and the acid is what eats away at your enamel. Vitamin D creates STRONGER enamel, however if you don’t brush/floss the bacteria away it won’t really protect you all that much because the plaque is there protecting them and holding the bacteria+acidic metabolites on your enamel. But who am I? Liver king knows all
