They started before the pistols, clash. Damned how they kept bringing out these classics is pure talent. The first 3 album enders are all captivating, "School mam on" No more heroes " and "Enough Time " Black and white all so different

@@kevhanson1262 I’m glad you said the first 3 albums which I abs adore n go nuts even at my age when I hear a track from those first 3 bangers ….. but .. and I feel like a traitor saying it out loud … I never rated any album after black and white 👀…. Please don’t set the hounds on me but that’s what I think ! Those first 3 albums can go on a loop and I’d die a happy bunny though 👍🏴

I love this track, I think it's my favourite Stranglers tune and they have many great tunes. It's the soundtrack of my youth when I worked for a drain cleaning company, spent plenty of time down in the sewer.

Punk floyd at its best. Simply the best Stranglers track. Seem to remember the sewer is supposed to be London at that time when it was going through a bad time with strikes in the mid 70s.

The Stranglers go prog! This song is precisely what separated them from everything else around this time. Dave's keys were always the defining factor between punk and post-punk psychedelia. Nobody could these guys back then!

The video footage is from two different live concerts. The bald headed guitarist and lead singer is Baz Warne who replaced Hugh Cornwell and the other guitarist and lead singer (with hair) is Hugh Cornwell. "Down In The Sewer" is the last cut from The Stranglers 1977 debut album 'Rattus Norvegicus IV' which the recording from that album is on this video footage. At the time of the release of this album in 1977 (I was 21 at that time and it was a friend of mine who told me about The Stranglers and I really got into their music), some of the music critics compared it closely to The Doors music. Hugh Cornwell singing style like Jim Morrison, and Dave Greenfield's keyboard playing to Ray Manzarek's style of keyboard musicianship also from The Doors. The Stranglers themselves, especially Dave Greenfield weren't quite too familiar with The Doors music, but they did know about them. The Stranglers are one of my many favorite bands from England. I saw them once in concert in my hometown of Santa Barbara, California on the Central West Coast around 1983 or 1984. They opened up for Roxy Music, also one of my many favorite bands from England.
