The question is will they continue after the passing of the great Dave Greenfield. Now there's only JJ left as a founding member. I saw them live last year and they were formidable...still after all these years they were knocking the tunes out like never be before. Whatever they do it's their decision and i will respect it. I've been a fan from the very beginning and will continue to do so. If this is the end i would like to mention that Baz Warne did a great job replacing Hugh Cornwell. Long LIve The Stranglers!!

I think this is now the end of the band.I hope I'm wrong.now Dave has gone there is no way anyone could replace him.if they carry on I would still pay money to go and see them but it would never be the same without Dave.such a big loss for us all.it's nearly a week now since he has passed and I'm still gutted and still very sad.RIP Dave.will never be forgotten!! 😢💔

Even if someone had the technical keyboard ability, though, the emotional side of it would just be too much, you would think. JJ and Dave must have played every Stranglers gig together for 45 years. How could JJ do another tour under those circumstances? Yes, from a fan’s point of view, we’d obviously love to come together for a final tribute, but I can’t see it, tbh. Only they can make that decision, and the fans will understand whatever they choose to do. In the meantime, we have some wonderful memories and videos like this to remind us of Dave’s wonderful skills.

Saw them in Melbourne in February and they were superb as usual. So incredibly sad about Dave. The Baz era 4 piece were much better than late Stranglers with Hugh. Imagine JJ and Baz may do something together at some point but The Stranglers as we knew and loved them are probably over.

Totally randomly, In 1980 Classical music, magazine called the coda to this song, the most exciting piece of classical rock music ever written. In 1980, in all of its raw live glory. It damn most certainly was. This one, is good. But just ... good.

Black and White. A collection of songs that exudes bleak war torn imagery and references the cold war to great effect. (U2 and Joy Division went on to create dark music with war torn overtones but the Stranglers did it first on Black and White). The production sought to capture death and destruction with a stark sneer of cold command and entrenched paranoia that existed in the late 1970's. A true masterpiece - never bettered.

Totally solid, but the best stuff is always their early material. Nobody else writes like Hugh. But this is a very faithful rendition, right down to Baz's snarl in the vocals. I saw them once with Hugh, on the Greatest hits tour with the horn section, and they were awesome. They were OK when I saw them a few years later with Paul, but it was like.... watered down. The energy, and danger were gone. Nice to see they've recaptured that. But it will never be as edgy as it was with the original line-up. A shame they seem t be at a permanent impasse- I would love to see Hugh come back, with Baz, and do a tour.

@peterdukewilson That was me, I expressed it clumsily, I actually meant that Joy Division took the sound and vive of early stranglers and explored only that path whereas the Stranglers changed direction with each outing and would move on.
