As a guitarist and an elementary teacher I like this lesson a lot. Your pacing especially is good for prospective students. More at their pace than yours.

Dude! Always loved this Stranglers song with its time shifts + melody etc. Love it! Wasn't looking for it but then I saw the title in the feed and had to click... BUT WAIT... I'm rather new to the instrument and I've been searching around the 'Tube for help and I need to tell you that you FORGOT to start the video with 15-90 seconds of masturbatory soloing/riffing like so many others do! and while I'm at it - you FORGOT to do it excessively throughout the lesson! Who does that?! ;-) Thanks for being explicit, clear and compassionate in your pedagogy. Your instruction is clear and you have that personal + relaxed approach that all really effective teachers possess. Glad I found this. Best of luck! Nice One! SUBSCRIBED

Great lesson Andy, thanks. Been loving playing this one the last few days. Just curious though, I tried playing along with the song once I'd got It down, but something sounds off. Is the record tuned down or something?
@andyturnbullguitarteacher Жыл бұрын
Glad you enjoyed it. Yeah, the tuning is slightly off on the record. I've used a capo on the first fret as the tuning is closer to the key of F than E, but it's a little flatter than F on the record.

What's the point in the E minor? You're not hitting any of the strings for it?
@andyturnbullguitarteacher8 ай бұрын
It's just good form. If you make a mistake, you'll still make the right sound, as opposed to not having the chord form there. Hope that helps.

Nice one. Very clear and didn't expect it to be based around basic chords, but obviously the plucking is interesting. What time signature is it?

Intro 6/8 and 7/8, then 6/8 for the verse
@stevensmith426 Жыл бұрын
Have you listened to the original recording, it's played on harpsichord I think? When I first learned it on piano I found it confusing but the intro is basically ten bars of alternate 6/8 followed by 7/8 with broken chords and a bit of honky tonk on the 7/8 bars. Also the sort of piece thar helps build good skill for jazz/blues improvisation in piano. But I digress, this is about guitar! Its a really cool piece I am looking forward to have go of it on guitar. Ps I agree isnt it great when the algorithm on KZbin gets it right 😂

Golden Brown was written by Dave Brubeck decades before it was covered by the Stranglers
@Dutcharmytent Жыл бұрын
Golden Brown was originally written by Dave Greenfield.
@JOSEPHC777 Жыл бұрын
Golden Brown" is originally a song by the English rock band the Stranglers released as a 7-inch single on EMI's Liberty label in 1982, noted for its distinctive harpsichord instrumentation. It was the second single released from the band's sixth studio album La folie (1981) and peaked at No. 2 in the UK Singles Chart, the band's highest ever placing in that chart.[5] It has also been recorded by many other artists.

Tho op is referring to an amazing cover that was a viral hit a couple of years back, the guy did it in the style of Dave Brubeck, and ppl were actually fooled unto thinking it was the secret original. It's an amazing cover, I managed to get a copy on vinyl too!
