Gig in Manchester - My mum and Dad allowed me to go eventually. I got dressed in the gear down at the bottom of the drive. Got tut tuts and stared at on the train and loved it. On the way back after the concert. We said we'd leave during oncore or we'd miss the train, but we didnt leave? How could we seats were flying the Apollo was rocking... It was easy we'd get a Taxi.. Punked up sweaty with hair colouring and make up running, the first time being a punk that I realised it sometimes caused problems. We flagged down the taxi, it was raining, he pulled the window down and we said politely ' can you get us to the train station please we are going to miss the train' and the taxi driver took one look and said ' F off... and drove off. All I can say it didn't put us off and that wasn't the last train that was missed. Saw Hugh years ago at a book signing. Nice bloke. He did some acoustic versions of his songs. Its sad that Hugh and JJ are not friends , but they were in a certain time and a certian place and no one can change that? Should they get back together. No the current Stranglers have their own career they've been together longer than the Hugh Period. They are still explosive live and to this day know one inspired me to play bass like JJ did. I now play guitar as well. I make noises. - sometimes I play a few stranglers bass lines... I would love to crack Genetix.

Wow, what great memories related to the Stranglers, thanks for sharing them! I never got to see them, sadly. I think they must've played Cardiff Uni when I was studying in the city, cos I bumped into Jet Black in Boots on a Saturday afternoon - don't know which of us was more surprised! 😂 How sad that Dave Greenfield has left us, I realise in hindsight what an amazing musician he was.

I saw Hugh Cornwell in Harpenden last week still going strong, sounding great and playing to a full house. Echoing the comments of others, it's a great pity that he didn't attend this gathering and more evidence that rock'n'roll feuds run very deep. It's odd to hear the Stranglers new boy commenting on the band's history.

The new boy's been in the band 20 years, ironically much longer than Hugh Cornwell was.

Let's not forget that the last couple of albums with Hugh were crap, they had lost their way. They re-gained it when Baz joined, they got back to how things were, and the chemistry and joy between JJ and Baz is obvious. The last 3 Stranglers albums have been great. It's ok to like Hugh *and* the Stranglers, we don't need to just pick one.

they did a helluva lot more than that... they walked out halfway through bbc rock goes to college at guildford uni because some toffs didnt let the loyal guildford fans enter (still actually a great recording worth every penny), JJ demolished wall on tour in holland (google stranglers blondie sex pistols) they kept getting in prison Nice in Nice because toffs blamed the group when the students rioted, they tied a journalist to the eiffel tower without his trousers, they had fisticuffs with the Clash and repulsed simon Cowell with fans spitting and the list goes on. ...this is not the main reason I am a fan.

Aye Big Head is honest about many things especially his love of the ever increasingly totalitarian EU while bemoaning the people's vote in favour of Brexit. Not that it will ever happen! And his excuses for his band playing in the Zionist owned State of Israel. But there you go. Who would expect anything less from a Zionist owned Red like JJ?
@treasurehunteruk97184 жыл бұрын
JJ still sounds really browned off here about not getting to No 1, but Hugh said it was his fault, because Golden Brown was going up the Charts and JJ told the media it was about H. They then took it off their playlists. If he had kept schtum a bit longer they might have hit the goal. It would have come out eventually, but they would have had their No 1 by then. I think Hugh was quite bitter about it.

@davidsanderson59185 жыл бұрын
Even if they wanted to, I'm not sure if they even 'go together' now. Maybe one or two songs.... I saw Hugh live this week and he went through an hour or so of his Stranglers numbers after the interval. The song structures are the same but Hugh has so much more freedom. Don't think you can just staple that on top of what JJ and Co. do now. Roger and Dave, the same. Each have made their material their own.

When Hugh left, all you so called fans, just panned them and didn't give them a chance. Baz came along and in my opinion, did a good job taking over for Hugh. If you slag these guys off.....what about the Stones. Now there's a band to slag off. Lets get out the violins for all the fans that are crying over these guys trying to continue.
