"Hangy aroo..." - Hugh Cornwell had already checked out by this point and was just phoning it in. His guitar 'solo' on Golden Brown at this same gig is a case in point. He literally couldn't give a monkey's. I bumped into my old school mate from Rochdale in the summer of 1990 and he told me he was going to this gig. In spite of what I've just said about Hugh I do wish I'd gone now...

erm - Hugh was leaving the next day. His heart wasn't in it - I saw them live in the late 70's and early 80's and they were phenomenal -this song convinced me to learn how to play the guitar!

All the feel has gone by this time, it is band that was in decline. Best thing that happened to the Stranglers was Cornwell leaving, his obsession with cracking it big in the states stifled all creativity and originality. This sounds like a cover version.

You can tell Hugh had enough. I saw them in the smaller clubs when they first started out and they had much more energy. JJ was off doing his own thing here. It was like he turned the volume down to the base. Mick Dirnt from Green day copies JJ in every way with the leg bending moves.

why aural sculpture is crap? it was an album where the band has developed their sound,by adding horns,and the result was a classic sophisticated pop album

@calumsb321 Pretty typical of their sound by this time . I was at this concert and to be honest , though The Stranglers are far and away my favourite band - The Godfathers were the better band this day . I think The Stranglers were very much going through the motions by now - if Hugh hadn't left after this , then maybe the whole band wouldn't have lasted beyond another album , which would also probably been in the same style as "10" - unfortunately .
@Padulas12 жыл бұрын
ok..sure it's an opinion...and yes,i agree that it's not their best album...but i think it's the best album during their "epic" years anyway,tracks like souls,let me down easy or northwinds..cannot be called crap :-) actually i like all cornwell's era albums....after him,the stranglers gone bad... :-(
