Bought this the day it came out, still have the single and the album. My favorite band of all time, real musicians that changed the times. The Doors wished they were the Stranglers.

Brad, if this is your first time listening to The Stranglers, you are starting on an epic musical journey, sir. This band is the real thing. A pair of great songs to check out from this era of the band are "(Get A) Grip (on Yourself)" and "Hanging Around" from their debut album, Rattus Norvegicus. They also do a scorching cover of Dionne Warwick's "Walk on By" that is absolutely legendary. Enjoy!

Dave's keyboard are what set The Stranglers apart from the other bands who got roped into the punk bracket. The Damned also used a keyboard to some extent, but it was never an integral part of the song in the way Dave Greenfield played it.

The Stranglers trolling the BBC....again. In this the guy singing (Jean Jacques Brunel) isn't the guy who sings this song, that's the guitar player (Hugh Cornwall). Top of the Pops made artists mime and pre punk era the artistes went along with it, but many punk bands resented it and would make it obvious they were being forced to mime and make a mockery of it. The first time The Stranglers performed on TOTP, they mimed the track without strings on the guitar or bass.

It's the same kind of message as Wake Up by Rage Against The Machine. "Whatever happened to those heroes?" - the system killed them. It's got that anger because their heroes were destroyed, the same way RATM were talking about the fact that MLK was murdered by the FBI using a local KKK-type guy working in co-operation with the police. Look at what happens to the heroes, this is why you should be angry.
