I love the webnovel and can't wait to see the next part of the story animated. Similar to Slime in that the world gets much bigger as the story goes on and, at least in the webnovel, the world building is done quite well. But what I really like is *no spoilers* Makoto is overpowered, but has a big weakness in the lack of healing himself and a seeming partial resistance to healing magic. So there is always the possibility of injury or death for him and his followers. The story grows in intensity at a good pace without forgetting its slice of life roots. If you have the time I would recommend the webnovel and the sidestories. Be aware it is still ongoing.

You do know that Isekai is a whole lot older than that right? I mean I remember a fun little isekai know as El Hazard which I watched in 1995. You also have other classics like Fushigi Yugi, Vision of Escaflowne and Magic Knights of Rayearth. They all came out in the mid-90's which make them far older. There are older stories but those were some of the first I ran across.

I read the manga a few months before the anime announcement so I was excited to see how they would adapt it, which they kept most of the main points in which is great, but the minor details that would give more explanation as to why these things are happening are what was cut out, making it feel a bit incomplete. Indeed. When a character is maddened into misanthropy, it can appear as sociopathic to the outside observer. But to the people who know the full story, it is entirely understandable WHY the person behaves in such a manner.

It's so far one of the best isekai for me. It might even be my favorite. He's OP, but it's for a purpose. Literally taking on a God and the people of the world who have her blessing. The anime seemingly starts out silly like Konasuba, and then it kicks in a darker tone. The MC even demonstrates some serious competence as a leader and "player" in the world. On top of it, his otherworldly status serves a purpose for the story. I also admire that he uses archery over swords, and combines the archery with his magic. The archery scenes are tremendous. I love this anime. I hope for a season 2.

Having read the LN, there are several references (way farther into the story) to a dark side within Makoto, so maybe the anime was foreshadowing it. 4:25 Yes! One of my favorite differences in this anime was the "why" Makoto is hella OP. It is such a fun reason for him to plow through the difficulties he comes across, helped by the powers he was blessed with by Best Homie God. 7:28 Good point. There really was so much hinted at, but not given focus in the one season. Once you read the story enough, much gets elaborated on and becomes thought provoking. Raidou(Makoto, as he is mostly referred to in the book form) does display some unique tendencies and motives. The conflict between him and Hibiki really shows that this is a different sort of protag. 9:00 To this day, when I hear Gambling by sydou(who did one of the best EDs for CSM, btw), the hype explodes from my brain!

@@davidford3115 Tsukimichi kinda ends up playing his power for comedy instead of serious growth more often than not. Which I do rather like. For example (spoiler alert) The spell he cast to take out Sophia & Lancer gets mistaken for the Goddess' divine judgement, meaning that even Mikoto doesn't know that he created a sacred lake by accident, leading to a hilarious moment where Shiki connects the dots and is totally horrified while Mikoto is chilling out as normal.

I really liked this anime. Yes, it has some elements of Slime Isekai, but also Konasuba. It's a subversion of the Isekai trope. The idea that the goddess who summoned you then rejects you because she doesn't like your face. (She even implied that he wasn't his parents' child with that ugly duckling line) She allows him to know every language but the human one, to further alienate him from her precious humans. I do find it weird that everyone wants to form a contract with him. The inversion of the races is the best element of the story. I could do without the constant desire to "service" him. He's still a kid himself. But to be fair, he could have said something to draw the lines instead of just ignoring it. Being embarrassed to just say he's not attracted to them that way is just a writer's trick to keep the tension going. And it's dumb.

One thing i always want in isekai, is going back every now and then to people in the first world and seeing how they react to the disappearance of the character(s). I *especially* want that in this show, because of his friend who seemed to care about him. Is she panicking because he's gone? Did she go to his family to find out what happened? Is she trying to find a way to bring him back? Does she even care about him anymore? Equally as interesting would be to see his parents and sisters. Is the whole family as vain as the goddess? Are just the sisters concerned and the parents not? Did the parents tell his sisters about the other world before he left, and he was the only one who didnt know? If not, did they tell them now? What was his relationship with his family? Are the parents trying to get him back? Or if not the parents, are his sisters trying to find a way to bring him home? Isekai rarely, (though not never,) touch on this aspect and it's such a tremendous missed opportunity for good character writing. The vast majority of people have someone who cares about them, and would miss them if they're gone, and i really want to see writers tackle that more. Funnily enough, one of the few that I can think of is SAO, and that's only really because they actually go back. My point being they mostly discuss it after the fact, rather than while it's happening. The advantage of doing it while it's happening is mostly for character development. If the character goes back, it makes the payoff of seeing everyone again that much better, because you'll have spent time developing all of the characters involved in that reunion. In the situation where the character returns and they don't meet anyone they knew, whether it's because they moved on or are dead/gone, having the character find out what happened is still a valuable experience. Hell, even if the character doesn't return, it can still be really interesting to find out what happened to everyone else. The character would effectively be dead in their old world, (even if they end up returning later,) and it would be extremely interesting to see how the characters cope with that. Sorry for the rant, i just wanted to share my thoughts.

Well let me share some important fact about the anime: 1. The anime animation is truly amzing in return we get a super terrible storyline as the anime have cut about 97% of the important info especially the last episode they directly skip about 20~30 chpter to the season 1 ending. 2. The MC is super normal until he was place in a super discrimination place/situations. 3. The MC is a hard worker and not a OP character. The anime directly skip fact about MC. Here is the fact, he is someone who is 10x weaker than normal human from the earth, as this was suppose to be clarify before the last episode of anime. He is someone who need to work 10x than normal human as he born weak(well at least in term of physical) when he child his teacher told him that he can never be strong and he can become is being normal (that is the max limit of him according to his teacher) but he is someone who doesn't give up so he work hard to become normal.

I agree they could do so much more for it, but I take season one as him getting to the starting line. Yes he has a city with non humans, with op powers, and op gear, but I think the things that will delve into him will be played out with the events of the greater world, like the explanation for the war, the other summons, his parents and so on. I have not read the original material but this is what I would have done if constructing this story. Season one gave us the questions for the future and I think season two will begin to answer some of this. Hell, this only got 12 episodes and slime had had over fifty-two to explain things, or twenty-four if you just want to only count the first season.

I mostly agree with everything you have said. The sprinkled good bits, the opening, the way the world and plot is explain, and even how he became OP which is the best thing about this show for me. There were shows where a character that is either strong already in the old world (Lugh from Worlds finest assassin), someone thats already Op (Anos from misfit of demon academy), and now more shows about characters that have already been sent to another world. But I either forgot or have never watched an isekai where the protags parents are from another world (Maybe the sequel to inuyasha?) The only thing I disagree with is how you compared slime isekai to tsukimichi. The way I see it is that slime basically has multiple seasons and even a movie on its belt. (Pretty sure 24 eps on S1) so it has alot of time to build up and showcase. Of course Im not claiming that the first 12 eps of both shows should be compared nor do I think tsukimichi could become as popular/good. Because I don't know whats in the source material or how the fans would react to it. Im just glad its been seemingly announced S2 but idk the details. But hoping it gets more love in the future in general.

To our main boy Makoto I can tell you that he realizes at some point that his mental state is far from normal but he honestly doesn't care. However he is seen as absolutely terriefying to all Characters that notice this trait and also know the power he holds. Which leads to many recognizing that he is the actual Threat to the current World and that the Demon lord is just a Small Fry in Comparison ( Mind you he is not Weak ). And although he keeps being delusional & humble about himself. There is a certain graphic scene of him turning an almost immortal servant of the goddess into well..... When she realized that she would die she teleported away only to find out there is no place far away enough to be out of reach of the absolute Monster that is Makoto with his Bow. Her Friends could only watch as one arrow after the other lodged themselves in her vital points, limbs an so on until she finally stopped regenerating. Yeah Makoto is definitely not what you would call a hero at this point. And this scene is just one of many, many red flags.

If I remember reading correctly, Tsukimichi actually came out first before Slime when it was being written so it kind of hit the building a demihuman nation before Slime. I will say I think that if the anime had more than 12 episodes, it’d probably be as good as Slime because the first season actually skipped quite a lot of interesting plot points from the series. That’s the problem when the season only has 12 episodes, they skip stuff. So yeah, hopefully they don’t skip anything in season 2.

If I remember right, doesn't everyone (at least the humans) see him as an ogre? That adds to the curve we get and makes things even more twisted and fun.

I just realized who you remind me of and that's wendigoon, i think it's mainly the beard and probably similar facial structure.

Now it's time for dead mount death play, jk you can watch what you want but it's definitely the most mature? I'd say Isekai of this season and I've never even heard about this show but it seems interesting

I understand the two stories have overlap in fans. Many from both camps think Mio, the spider girl is a Queen Taratect.

If you enjoy good isekais with a believable world-building, characters with their own drives and motivations, people as people and not NPCs, conflicts unsolvable by being OP, and also fantasy-world politics, I would suggest either Ascendance of Bookworm or Ideal Sponger Life. The former has an anime, but it’s not ideal. Both of them have manga and LN.

watched it. read the manga. read the webnovel. got cucked from author doing a 2 year hiatus. it still hurts... the story so far is 10/10 though P.S: the deeper points you mention like the parents of makoto and the effect of various situations and his psychy are not directly adressed allthroughout the webnovel so far. thats what i especially like about the story. there are a lot of situations where makoto reflects about his situation and the moral-dilemmas and his development is adressed in kind of a meta layer where you have to interpret his standpoint yourself. they really did a good job of showing the thoughts of the characters and everyone has a well fleshed out personality. therefore you as the reader are not directly hit on the nose with a fact of the matter discription of a moral problem makoto is facing but you are shown it from his and others perspective as well and are forced to apply your own values to it and find a position for yourself. even it the translation was a little wobbly sometimes it was really good read. imo this is one of the best anime storys there is. as i understand it is the last ark of the webnovel and i hope to god the author will finish it soon.

Well in the manga they do go more in depth into Kuzunoha's mental blockage and it's not one he intentionally has. It was forced upon him and reinforced by his own body dysmorphia/inferiority complex.

Give the manga a read, it's really good, and check the WN after, it's similar in a few ways with Overlord and Mushoku tensei, and just as good

I don't know Japanese, but I watched it twice over and listened to it while doing stuff so now I can quote everything through words I don't know. Is that weird?
