So it would appear that I unwittingly stumbled upon a way to avoid the Streisand Effect. When a rumor was started about me in high school, despite the fact that it wasn't true, I just shrugged. The rumor fizzled out because I appeared not to care about it at all, while in reality I was horrified and didn't want it to spread. Instead of even bothering to acknowledge it or correct it, I just rolled my eyes and pretended I didn't care. Sometimes I'd ask if it even mattered whether it was true because people were so fascinated by it, and then say that by this time next week they'll have found something newer and crazier to gawk at, so it's entirely unimportant whether or not this is legitimate. Behind closed doors I worried over it, but the fact that I appeared entirely unfazed helped the rumor dissipate. Interestingly enough, I was right. A few weeks later a girl left school due to a pregnancy, which took any and all attention off me. They had a new shiny thing to gawk at, and I was boring again.

Theres also the flip side of positively responding to harsh criticism, one game developer back in 2013 took onboard what Jim Sterling said, especially about one part of their game being a good idea and that it could work as it's own standalone game if expanded on. The dev then went on to make that new game and called it Five Nights at Freddy's. Yep, at its most basic level "The Streisand Effect" is: person doesn't want people to see something; so person says "Don't look!"; result: everyone looks. Now what I want to know is: does the opposite have a name? Y'know, when someone *wants* people to look, so says "Don't look!" knowing it guarantees eyeballs. You see it on dodgy clickbait ads, e.g. "this one neat trick that (name of organisation) doesn't want you to know!"
