I believe past injuries muscular imbalance and poor core activation causes these issues. I've actually had these issues. Makes the difference between me running a 4.4 or a 4.2 40yard dash.

Most defienlty 100%. In track my form was good but couples years later working certain jobs and getting injured in college. Caused imbalances from the hip all the way to the foot. stretching and working on hip flexors is key.

I have had hip problems FOR YEARS!!!!!!! (while running) I even had to do some walking in my MARATHON because the pain got so bad. Garmin lets me know what my stride length was... and boy was I shocked.... to find out my stride length running my fastest run time... was 3.97 FEET. No wonder I have hip problems... ''putting on the break'' is probably the best way to describe it. I've been working on cadence and tryin to work on picking up my feet faster.. I can feel my stride shortening.. sure enough... focusing on my cadence alone.. my stride is now... 2.89 feet. WOW what a difference! I've got a lot of things to work on!!! I'm shooka shocked!! Great video!

Thank you for sharing your experience. It's eye-opening to see how stride length and cadence can impact both sprinting and running form (and health). Focusing on cadence is a great strategy, that is great to hear how much it has improved your running and health.

Thanks! Landing underneath the hips also applies to distance running. There is a balance between stride length and stride frequency. You want long strides but not by reaching and landing in front of the hips.

@OutperformOfficial
@OutperformOfficial Жыл бұрын
Absolutely. Hurdle drills are fantastic at developing hip flexor strength which is key to running fast. They are the 1 drill that Olympic sprint coach Ken Harnden wishes all of his athletes did before joining his program. Check out the 4th tip in this video starting at 4:24 kzbin.info/www/bejne/m32XnHSoqL9obas

What if it's behind the hip, is that ok? Or is this what is called a negative move? I hope to answer my question and thank you in advance sir
@OutperformOfficial
@OutperformOfficial 11 ай бұрын
Maybe ever so slightly. Too much could cause issues with center of mass and falling forward. This could cascade to other parts of the body and interfere with stride length and torso position.
@greyfortitude18
@greyfortitude18 11 ай бұрын
Cadence may measure the distance coz its virtually impossible to see if you land under the hip while running unless you videotape.

@Speedmatters2023 11 ай бұрын
There is no such thing as too long of a stride length. But you are correct sir landing in front or back of your hips instead of under your hips kills speed. When I was young I ran 6.24 in the 55m but lost too much speed the last 45m due to this issue.

@OutperformOfficial
@OutperformOfficial Жыл бұрын
Sounds like she has a lot of potential. You want to incorporate drills that train the nervous system to land underneath the hips so it becomes automatic. You can start with marching drills, A-skips, wall drills etc. Then moving on to drills like wickets with a 10m run in and progressing up to 30m. Very effective forced mechanics drill. If you don't have mini hurdles you can use tape or paint sticks on the track.

@OutperformOfficial
@OutperformOfficial 3 ай бұрын
Since you can't think your way through the sprint you need to do drills that wire the nervous system to land properly. A Skips are a great start. Check out this video we did on acceleration drills kzbin.info/www/bejne/i2Gtm5WDgrmCo9k

@OutperformOfficial
@OutperformOfficial 11 ай бұрын
You want to land directly underneath hip, body lean should be very minimal during upright sprinting, at a ~45° out of the blocks.

@OutperformOfficial
@OutperformOfficial 11 ай бұрын
When an athlete wants to slow down what do they do? Land in front of their hips. Bolt definitely lands underneath his COM. You can experiment with this for yourself, try it both ways and if done correctly you should feel the difference. As with any sprinting advice you see online remember what Bruce Lee said "Absorb what is useful, discard what is not, and add what is uniquely your own."

Drills that train the body to land underneath the COM, also things like wickets, even resisted sprints when done properly will help.
