Techniques/sets making up a form is a super common thing in traditional martial arts. Breaking down the sets makes memorizing a form way easier since learning a form flat out can be pretty daunting especially if its something that has like 10-15 steps to them. Specifically alot of karate and taekwondo forms are broken down in that way. As well as basic forms being apart of alot of advanced forms is super common. It doesnt nessisarily mean a form is the superior one because it can be broken down into others, it can also mean it's universal techniques that apply to a variety of situations that tend to come up even on a basic level.

What if thunder breathing is called so because the sonic boom that happens when traveling faster than sound which lightning does. Thunderclap and flash is a great example of this being accurate. Thunder breathing is about controlling your breathing to increase your speed beyond the speed of sound
