I suspect that Pochita was never really the chainsaw devil.. but that some aspect of what he actually is is related to chainsaws. I would guess that either he ate a large portion of the "fear of being forgotten" devil (athagazoraphobia).. or he's ACTUALLY the "fear of being torn to shreds" (traumatophobia) devil.. The torn to shreds part resonates with me.. when you are torn to shreds in nature.. you are generally never found again.. and around people.. well we've all seen chainsaw massacre right? That's it! Hes the Massacre Devil!

For being a really powerful devil that can put up a fight against 4 Horsemen (with a primal devil of Death) it's only logical to think that he's (probably) the strongest devil in CSM universe, my theory is that he could be the Unknown Devil (ability to turn everything he eats into "unknown") or he could be the Chaos Devil (greek myth, can erase and it fits the whole theme of chainsawman being chaotic).

My theory is that he's the "loss" devil. Theoretically, the fear of loss is the root of all other fears. If you've got nothing to lose you've got nothing to fear after all. Makes sense for the entire eating devils to erase them thing too. Anything eaten by the loss devil is just lost from existence down to everyone's memories of it, literally, everything is taken away from the things it eats. Also makes sense when compared with Denji's motivation being to just obtain a collection of experiences, yet is constantly just having things taken away from him.

personally i think he’s probably the devil of consumption, with how feared consumption is from the start of humanity to now with the devils roaming around it definitely makes pochita a primal fear, not only that but he would be the strongest primal devil since at the start of humanity the darkness was feared but being eaten in the dark was feared more, also with his special ability being the erasure ability it would make sense for him to be the consumption devil, and just like the darkness devil chainsaws are probably associated with consumption. Basically if this theory becomes true then pochita will without a doubt be the strongest devil in the show

Every fear can be boiled down to fear of losing something or multiple things be it health, peace, freedom, capability, autonomy, etc. If you don't care about loosing something be it life, limb, memory, etc, you don't fear the thing that can take it away from you.

I don't think that's going to happen. Chainsaw man is special in regards to human fear. To begin with, I don't think humans were afraid of chainsaw to the point that he became one of the strongest devil. Even in manga it's said that Chainsaw Man is the only devil that get's stronger by devil's fear. Devils fear what they don't understand. So, won't they fear him more, seeing one of the strongest devil's making an equal contract with a normal human and saving humanity by killing his own kind, which doesn't really make sense?

I think that Pochita is the Nightmare devil, It literally would explain everything that has happened. Everyone is afraid of nightmares, because a nightmare is tailor-made to the specific person or being that is having it. A nightmare is your deepest darkest fears. Chainsaws just stem from a horror movie aspect where people watch horror movies and have nightmares afterwards. A devils worst nightmare is being obliterated from existence. Probably why pochita was drawn to denji because of his nightmares of killing his father. We have all had nightmares where no matter what we do we can't run or beat whatever is in our dream, which is why he is always stronger than anyone he faces. I havn't seen anyone say this yet tell me what you think!

You actually disproved your own light speed theory because of the glow on the person's face. A beam of light strong enough to cause damage wouldn't be able to be seen because the moment it touches the first thing that's the attack destroying that thing then there would be a huge flash. @@idkbruh5096 you only have to fear the actual existence of the devil’s power in the world. for example, if no one feared chainsaws, denji would be weak. if no one feared guns, the gun devil woildn’t be as strong as it is. so for fear i feel as though if no one had any fears, the devil wouldn’t be strong so i do think the fear devil would be the strongest as it is a manifestation of the feeling of fear.

The chainsaw devil doesn't get power when everyone loves him so its not just about being related to the object the devil is attached to its about fearing the concept that the devil embodies. If the fear devil got powered because people had fear for other things then the chainsaw devil would be more or less powerful depending on how many people use chainsaws in the world. Thats assuming it would follow the same rules as the other devils though

It’s simple. Pochita was first written as a simple cute chainsaw devil. But along the way, the author had to make him special to increase the power scale. I know makima had eyes on Pochita from the beginning, but it could be a simple new subordinate/tool interest. The plot with Aki and Power just developed along the way and turned out useful to the author’s evolving idea. This kind of writing is very common. They make things up along the way, sacrificing consistency and reasoning. But as long as the outcome outweighs the plot holes, then it’s okay. Or so they think. So yeah. Pochita was a Chainsaw Devil. But the author needed him to be something more so he is now something greater.

In my point of view there are some pieces that don’t fit perfectly with the idea that Pochita was not intended to be a chainsaw devil and is originally written as something all powerful. But I just want make the argument that its possible. I’m sure you’ve also read quite a few manga that evolved too much from its base concept. Such a Naruto. In the original, he was this unfortunate kid who had to exert extra effort just to be as good as the others. Even going against the concept of Destiny as shown in his battle against Neji. But then in the Shipuden’s war arc, he was suddenly a reincarnation of some all powerful ancient being. Basically being destined for greatness, a complete contradiction to his OG character. Masashi made these things up along the way to make the series ‘cooler’ and ‘flashier’. Sorry for the absurd amount of info. I’m just saying not every writer has everything planned out already. Some make things up along the way to pull some plot twist/ass pull, to satisfy majority of the viewers, specifically those who will not question writing perspective. But then again. It’s my take.

Well not Exactly the Chainsaw itself is doing the cutting. That give movement. A circular saw can do the same cut through stone with tungsten or diamond chain saw. Circular saw case a disc blade. Also depends on the speed and force is drawing out when cutting into stone.

I feel like, the anime is going to throw what I call the "praise" method of power onto denji in part two, now it sounds super far fetched because its a oddity in the world we have been givin, but wouldn't praise give just as much power as fear, then again its more than likely not that and something totally different I literally just can't figure out how he is going to get the power boost to fight the war devil

I mean there are chainsaws built for cutting concrete. We have one at my work. its rough to use though and the chains dont last long at all.
