Freakiest part about the demon core and radiation in general, for me. They all lived for days, sometimes months for some "lucky" few after it happened, but the moment that light shined they were all walking corpses. And the first words of the scientist responsible for the accident afterwards were just "well, that does it."

My favorite lore tidbit about the Order of the Valorous Heart is that after St. Lucia died, the whole order spent the next decade hunting down every single member of the sect that killed her, and forced them all to admit that Lucia's faith was never broken. Nobody knows what happened to the cultists after that, but what we do know is that there's been a contingent of Sisters Hospitaller permanently attached to the Valorous Heart's home convent ever since, and they've apparently been putting their knowledge of life extension and pain enhancement to good use in the dungeons beneath the abbey.

Couple Demon Core notes: The Berrylium casing around the plutonium core was supposed to be separated using shims, and the shims slowly lowered so they could measure the reaction of charged particles with a Geiger counter. Louis Slotin, who wore cowboy boots to work, chose to use his bare hand and a screwdriver to separate the berrylium shell to show off how close he could get the reaction without creating a criticality incident. He was literally show boating with fissional material, "tickling the dragons tail" they called it, and there was no barrier between him and the core when it released a burst of ionizing radiation. He spent the next 11 days in unfathomable pain before slipping into a coma and dying.

The incident with the demon core you are describing is actually the second criticality experiment that went prompt critical, and the person who grabbed the top half was Louis Slotin, who was holding the screwdriver that slipped. This incidend was recreated in the movie "Fat Man and Little Boy" about the Manhattan Project. The first incident with the core happened nine months to the day earlier when Harry Daghlian was preforming an experiment involving placing neutron reflective bricks around the core, and dropped one on top, causing prompt supercriticality. He died 25 days later, and the only other person there, a security guard by the door, died of acute leukemia 33 years later.

My theory on why the whole "Women-at-arms" thing got through is because the Ecclesiarchy went "We've got these badass women who create LITERAL MIRACLES with their faith, we don't need men! We're just gonna write this to make it seem like we're limiting our power when in reality it changes literally nothing"
@chrisbaldwin8570 Жыл бұрын
It was because of the Convocation of Nephilim. Basically the Ecclesiarchy was stupid rich and sort of supporting the Imperium's public works and culture after the death of Doge. No one really wanted to see it collapse in on itself when it's holdings fell because it couldn't protect it's holdings and couldn't collect tithes anymore. So the Ecclesiarchy, the Inquisition, and the Sisters got together and did a sneaky little backroom agreement. The Ecclesiarchy wanted protection for the devote and their works. The Sisters wanted funding and a cause worth committing to. The Inquisition wanted for the Imperium to not implode and a convenient force to use against heretics and possible future Astarte rebellions. All agreed to work together and two High Lords basically rubber stamped the Sisters into both the Ecclesiarchical structures and the Ordo Hereticus forces. No one can really go against the Sisters helping out the church since well the Lord Inquisitor, High Lord of Terra and Judge of Your Right to Exist said it was ok. It also means the Ecclesiarchy funds and supports a military force capable of fighting multiple chapters of Space Marines and the Adeptus Mechanicus at the same time that also happens to be available for anything the Inquisition needs handled, like say those Marines in the future or any uppity toasters.

@chrisbaldwin8570 Жыл бұрын
I'm pretty sure in the older works Alicia Domina's death was implied to be the work of the Assassins, as the Convocation of Nephilim bound the Ecclesiarchy, the Inquisition, and the Sisters together as political groups and threatened the old power structures with visions of another Doge. The Convocation is what really allowed the Ecclesiarchy to keep on the Sisters. Basically Doge had consolidated a lot of power and wealth into the church and no one really wanted to see what would happen to all the works, worlds, and people the Ecclesiarchy had been supporting up to that time if it was suddenly unable to support it's massive infrastructure. The Ecclesiarchy wanted strong protection, the Sisters wanted financial support and a worthy cause, and the Inquisition wanted this whole mess to be put to bed while also having someone else fund and support a convenient force against heretics and possible future Astarte rebellions. No one liked this outside of these three groups but couldn't do anything directly against 2 members of the High Lords and what was once a force capable of stopping multiple space marine chapters at once.

The Argent Shroud is my favorite, Morvenn Vahl is an example of why. They're here to throw hands. Of the Orders, the Argent Shroud are Her. Despite the loss of 80%, it seems like everyone is accounted for. They've just been spread across the galaxy where they were needed. The Sisters have a long history of getting shit on, in general. The Argent Shroud though... man, the the things they've done to the enemies of Man... it's just disrespectful. They spent a year T-posing on the Iron Warriors and came back with three Warpsmith heads with minimal casualties and when they say minimal casualties, they mean like 'We are still a full strength unit, Sister Theresa broke a toe, when she shoved her foot up one fallen Astartes' ass.' because they don't recruit often. They are here to ruin your day. You've shat in someone's Post Toasties and they're here to return the favor with gusto.

Tabletop, The Triumph of St. Kathrine is a Warlord model, while it has several useful abilities, many are not so useful if you are not fighting chaos. Also the Triumph cannot Embark onto a transport model so you are stuck with its speed. Celestine or the Canoness are more generally useful for the same spot.

So, I think maybe you got confused on something (or you dug up some lore im not aware of). The burdensome knowledge impart to Alicia wasn’t about the Grail of Ages per say, we in fact have no knowledge of what it was (it’s never been stated). But it’s rumored to have be part of why they formed the Ordo Hereticus in the first place. I’m also unsure where you heard that the Grail is being guarded on Terra, as I’ve never heard of the Grail’s final location being known (mainly because, like you said, they hide all knowledge about the Grail). Also, The Order of the Valorous Heart don’t not wear gloves. They flay their hand as a way to endure pain and bring themselves closer to their Saint.

OK here we go: Trazyn finally steals Katherine's bones. This causes the entirety of the sororitas to go on a crusade to get them back. They manage to break into his gallery to find it and start raising he'll. While they search, they find the uncorrected perfect clone of fulgrim. They say "holy shit, this is big. We either need to purge this, or bring it back with us" and that's how we get fulgrim returning to the imperium.

Re that "Men under arms" clause allowing ridiculous legalese to pave the way for the glorious femme-loophole that is the Adepta Sororitas ... I can just imagine some hilarious Ecclesiarch pretender declaring that, if you can sidestep "no men under arms" with "women under arms", then surely you could no less plausibly invoke "men under legs". We're talking entire legions of male soldiers doing handstands, striding into glorious battle upside-down and on their arms, and operating their weapons with their toes. Come on, it's 40k. In a galaxy with penitence engines, daemonculaba, mind scarabs, and a gazillion other horrors, would armies of inverted blokes brandishing toe-guns really raise very many eyebrows?

Getting dropped by a dude represents the tabletop very well. Sometimes, you get caught by a stray autogun and they roll all 6s.
