Why is natural selection, a principle recognized by creationists, taught as ‘evolution’, as if it explains the origin of the diversity of life? By definition it is a selective process (selecting from already existing information), so is not a creative process. It might explain the survival of the fittest (why certain genes benefit creatures more in certain environments), but not the arrival of the fittest (where the genes and creatures came from in the first place). The death of individuals not adapted to an environment and the survival of those that are suited does not explain the origin of the traits that make an organism adapted to an environment. E.g., how do minor back-and-forth variations in finch beaks explain the origin of beaks or finches? How does natural selection explain goo-to-you evolution?

It's taught as part of evolution because it's one of the main driving forces of evolution. You don't get to pick and choose parts of science theory based on whether you think you can deny them or not. This is why creationism is not taken seriously and classed as pseudoscience. Who told you finches beaks show us the origin of beaks? We have observed the evolution of beaks through the fossil record, going back millions of years to early dinosaurs. All perfectly aligned and found exactly where we would expect them to be found. Why do you think evolution hasn't been falsified in all these years, when it would be so easy to do so? Is it just a massive coincidence or what?

It's not taught as evolution and doesn't explain the origins of life. It's taught as one of the main driving forces of evolution, because it is. The evolution of the beak has been observed through millions of years of fossil records going back to early dinosaurs. Not through finches.
