Reduce dusty dry bush by using a slight damp brush. Before you start painting, completely wet your brush then dry it off so you can only feel it's wet. Then dip your brush in paint and start your dry brushing. That little bit of water in the middle of the brush should keep it from going dusty. If you find it is dusty again, wash off all the paint and dry off the brush again. Continue dry brushing. Hopefully that works for you guys.

With the texture pallette you really want to go for a dampening pad as well. It's not just the palette that does it, but the slightly damp approach to dry brushing that keeps things nice and smooth. For me it was an absolute revolution in terms of doing vehicles and terrain, before I took the plunge on an airbrush. There's still a good place for it, and edge highlighting is one of those or if I just can't be bothered with the hassle of setting up the brush for the sake of a single piece.

The pallet is great, especially if you’re using a rounded-type of brush like the Artis Opus, Army Painter, or even a trimmed makeup brush. Your mileage will get better if you very slightly dab your brushes with a sponge first, then void into the palette. Less dryness this way!

Those turbo dork pallets are cool! If you can't afford them, I recommend the 6 compartment pallets from Michael's if Michael's is in your country. You get like 4 for $6. I can let my paints fully dry in them, come back like a week or more later, and they scrape right out no problem with the end of a paintbrush or your nail. So good! But, they're plastic. So they don't grip your table or whatever and I've knocked them off so much cause I tap them and they slide off. Paint all over my floor. Luckily, I have tile throughout, you might not. So, the TurboDork pallets might be a great purchase! I'm definitely going to try a couple out when I can. My landlord doesn't like the paint on my floor, but doesn't complain cause I wipe it up when it's wet, letting the rest dry. I showed her that it comes right up with rubbing alcohol, I'm just lazy.

Outside of the vendor hall, the American sellers for the down dirty products had weathering sprays and their famous weathering paints. I picked up 6 as it was cheaper than buying 3 but passed on the sprays this time around. My g/f picked up a lot of the scrap yard models from The Miniature Building Authority. The guys there were on point. Artus Opus sold out of their boards but I wanted to try out their sable brushes despite the cost so I picked up some of their brushes. I also picked up some other sable brushes. Games Plus, my guys from Mt Prospect were there and I picked up the AK FAQ vol 2 and the Vallejo Xpress Paints as well as an AK Paint set just because it looked interesting. The Games Workshop both was rammed on Sunday. I didn't bother going in and regret it since i completely forgot about the convention exclusive dude for Slaves of Darkness. Ah well. I hope they do an MTO on him or something because the Aftermarket prices are as always silly. Oh and the convention peeps gave us a Gale Force 9, Paizo licensed Starfinder boxed set. Threw that on the shelf and I haven't looked at it yet. At MOMumental, I picked up the gray and brown texture pastes. Stuff is so new that one of the bottle didn't even have a real label on it. All of the booths I talked to mentioned they were having fantastic sales and several were sold out of multiple items. It was good to see, especially after the problems of COVID. The Turbo Dork palette looks cool but I didn't notice it when I was by their booth AND I forgot to pick up their Adepitcon Red paint. D'oh again on me.

My trick for getting paint out of those hard plastic paint wells is to drop a glob of pva glue into the well and smearing it all around the inside. Give it a day to dry fully and then when you peel it out, it should pull up all the crusty paint with it. That silicon tray looks a lot easier and less goopy to use though. 😮

I know you are a gamer primarily and your painting focuses on getting painted models ready to play but there was so much I saw in your walk through geared toward display painters. Can you bring Sam, Vince or Scott to talk about that aspect? I moved to Arizona in 2017 and really miss living 30 minutes away from Adepticon rather than 2000 miles. I don't know if I will ever make it back. We did meet once and it was nice chat and I hope somewhat coherent as I signed up for WAAAAY to many painting classes and my brain was fried. Just a heads-up on that dry-brush palette- Make sure you don't prime it with matte primer! That's a bit of advice some people miss, even if they do know to prime it. I quite like mine. I've got an extra large one, and I use it as the main 'floor' surface of my airbrush booth, which doubles as my painting desk. It replaced an old cutting mat, and since I don't really do plastic kits at all, it works out well for me.

"warm enough to do that" in regards to priming: is it colder than -11C? If not, you may want to look into Montana 94 spray paints. I find that Citadel gets blotchy in -4C and Army Painter in -6 but Montana 94 goes all the way down to -11 without problems which is why I use it in Northern Norway. That, and they have every colour under the sun (and inside of the sun)

It was nice to actually see you again (twice) at Adepticon. I'm hesitant to get a Combat Patrol box until I can see how they plan to "balance " them as is. Currently they run from mid 300 to 600+ in points (power is gone now) and a dozen-ish to over double that in figure count. I would like to visit AdeptiCon some time, however only for that it would be an expensive trip (from Austria). So maybe I will combine it one day with a holiday trip to the USA. I have to check if there are similar cons I can reach easily. Back in before 2000, when I was active, I only know the modelling fare where there was something, however besides Games Workshop there was nearly no other miniature game/content present (in Austria).
