Great reaction as always guys! This is the one where all the tech breaks or doesn't work!! That's why the anxiety & the movie is so better than few others cause we are so used to them having all the handy tools, but in this one, it shows off their intelligence & strengths. So just imagine if they had all working tools. And I think it was Quinn that asked, yes they have sandstorms that bad. Actually even worse than depicted. My bro does mission work & says it can be very scary, but at least where he's normally at they have warning systems in place. I imagine there are areas that don't get proper warning & can be deadly.
@RealBLAlley Жыл бұрын
One of the strengths of the movie franchise is that they don't repeat themselves. Hendricks isn't so much the villain as one of several antagonists, serving as the catalyst for the greater threat of nuclear war. Hendricks also has a very different personality and approach compared to Owen Davian. You will see that same diversity with the main antagonist in Rogue Nation. Most of the shots of him climbing the Burj Khalifa were real, including when Ethan steps out through the window and when Brandt and Jane are holding onto him as he hangs outside the window.

I live in Dubai and back then I was selected as an Extra along with 400 others for the party scene in India (Though it wasn't India. The palace shown was a hotel in the Palm Jumeirah area in Dubai) We shot for 3 days. It was fun. Got paid well, had awesome free food, got to see these stars and got to experience Hollywood film making. I was supposed to be an Indian Businessman! And they promised us special premier show tickets when the movie releases. This was in 2010. And exactly a year later, in 2011, I got mail from them inviting me to a special IMAX Premier show even before the movie is out. They kept the promise! All 400 of us extras got to see the movie. Amazing all the way!!! BTW I found my shot for a second in that Party scene when the movie came out. Only I can find it. blink and miss shot! Haha! But its the experience that matters!

26:06 In answer to your question Mason Quinn, Tom Cruise LITERALLY climbed the Burj Khalifa himself and did all his own stunts while doing so. This includes when Ethan Hunt runs down the building, jumping over a camera and doing the big swing over to the open window. He was rigged up to cables and a safety harness while filming them, which were digitally erased during post production. Also, this stunt is my favourite stunt and WatchMojo has done a few videos which have this stunt in high spots on their lists. :)
@jlgibson001 Жыл бұрын
I love the extra for this film, where they're talking about this stunt, and how Tom was suspended outside the building for hours, I believe, and they'd be standing there in between shots... and Tom Cruise would go swinging by. 🤣

"Tom Cruise performed the sequence where Ethan Hunt scales the outside of the Burj Khalifa tower himself without the use of a stunt double. The Burj Khalifa tower is the tallest building in the world at 2,722 feet, or 829.8 meters. Cruise dangled outside the tower at approximately 1,700 feet, or 518 meters."

what i love about this movie is them having to deal with ‘almost everything that can go wrong does go wrong’ as well as them kind of poking fun at how much MI relies on their fancy gadgets when they don’t work in this film, and how the team mcguyvers their way through even if by the skin of their teeth. this is the MI movie i probably rewatch the most

I did a project in school about stunts and scene breakdowns, and I used this movie. The Climbing scene is not only real, but they had so many obstacles to face along the way. Permits, electrical problems, time, and of course safety had a lot to factor into for that Climb. IF you're asking what Tom Cruise did to get said shot, well you're looking at what he did. He may be weird in a lot of ares, but I respect his bravery to do his own stunts, with as little cgi as possible. Mans a legend for that.
@heather666810 ай бұрын
Yeah he climbed it. Totally awesome scenes. LOL think his philosophy is "Insurance company won't cover you for this (pick a stunt)". Tom: "Fire the insurance company and find another."

You hit the nail on the head MQ! The villain was the task! The person was just the plot point that is causing the chaos. But the chaos and the mission was the thing the team had to overcome.

Oak missed his chance to see that shot in IMax. This movie was perhaps the biggest selling point for IMax at the time and man did it not disappoint. That shot immediately gave me vertigo. And to answer Mason Quinn's question, in order to make it look like Tom was on the outside climbing the tallest building in the world, he decided to go to the Burj Khalifa and climb the outside of it. Assisted when it's meant to look like his gloves are sticking, but manually when Ethan has to climb, fall, and rappel the building old fashioned. It turned out, the Burj Khalifa _was_ the tallest structure in the world so he kept those shots in.

Came out near Christmas 2011. Major upgrade for the franchise. One of my favorite sequels. Saw it in IMAX, 5 days before it's initial release. Brad Bird (The Incredibles, Ratoutoulle and The Iron Giant) did amazingly well with his first live-action film. From part 4 onward, they utilize IMAX technology for core visual scenes in these sequels. This one definitely proved that Cruise is one of the best actors to ever do action period. The cast (IMF, villains) was great. Jeremy Renner was super busy between M-I, the MCU and the Bourne franchise. Not too many 4th installments are this good. From here on out, the missions stay fully connected (thanks to J.J. Abrams as producer). RIP to Michael Nyqvist (Hendricks/Cobalt).

To address Mason Quinn's point on the villain being vanilla... The villain is always the mission, not some bad guy to defeat... This movie highlighted that to the extreme by having a team needing to succeed with impossible circumstances. And with the knowledge that the mission itself is the villain, I think it was one of the best villains yet.

Best running gag in this installment is that from the beginning ALL of their gadgets fail them (with the exception of the sonic drill in the prison escape at the beginning) - Dude's eye-implant recognition thing ultimately gets him killed. - The image wall malfunctions during the escape from the Kremlin. - the server cant be hacked. - the mask maker malfunctions. - Brandts eye implant gets noticed. - the power gloves fail. - the tracking device is partially foiled by a sandstorm. - the hover cart doesnt work QUITE right. - the timing with the laptop stopping the nuke arming is off. Not to mention all of the other things... Just nothing goes as planned. And they still save the world.

sand storms, I was in Egypt in 1991 in a town called Aswan it is the southernmost town before the Aswan dam separating Egypt and Sudan. I went to see the light show at the Philae monument which was on a small island. That night a sandstorm hit. the light show was cut short as all tourists were put onto the ferry's to get us back to our hotels and cruise boats. I was on a cruise ship when I got back to shore a brave and crazy taxi driver drove me to my ship which was actually weighing anchor. I almost missed my cruise. (that sandstorm lasted for three solid days) so I think any middle eastern country could get hit by such a storm

Sandstorms can be brutal, depending on the density of the sand can be like being blasted with wire wool. Dubai is now very densely built up in the city centre which may prevent a storm from being right in the centre of the city now, but back when this was filmed it wasn’t so built up and had less buildings in the outskirts, so less to break up any wind

They actually used the Burj Khalifa for the shots. They didn't build or green screen anything. They took windows off of the building, he really went out that window that high up. He was tethered to a winch on the roof above so he wouldn't fall, but he scaled the exterior of the tallest building in the world. They removed windows to put cameras out as well as using helicopters to get all the shots. Brad Bird also decided that the tech should constantly fail so that it was the team themselves who had to do things, not the tech. This was his first live action film... having directed animated films (Incredibles, Iron Giant) previously. He has an eye for action and amazing shot angles. That feeling when he falls from the building... imagine that in the theater. The entire audience felt their stomachs drop as the anxiety kicked into overdrive. It was insane. The sell of of the scale and the danger is amazing. They have sandstorms this bad in Arizona. Some great video of them and it gets dark... street lights turn on. Dubai gets them even more being set on the edge of one of the largest deserts.
