Hey gang! The microtransactions tangent was definitely poorly worded and thought out. Since these videos are unscripted, I can sometimes have a hard time making a point, I think what I was trying to get at was how all the requirements for games on Amico would make it a tough sell for developers (No games rated above E10+, no direct ports, etc.) and one of the only requirements I could think of at the time was the microtransactions one, so I think I was trying to make it make sense coming out of my mouth and it did NOT. Sorry about that!

I highly disagree with Scott about patches and DLCs. Games should be complete day one. Otherwise, you won't be able to play them correctly in the future. For example: when the PS3 closes its digital store, many games will become unplayable, since you won't be able to download patches that fixes the games, and you won't get the complete game, 'cause you can't download a DLC anymore.

It’ll be harder, but not impossible. You can easily buy a hacked console (depending on the game, not even that is necessary), download said patch from an internet archive, put it in the right folder on your console and ur set. While I really wish day one updates weren’t a thing, its just an unreasonable thing to ask for given the size of games nowadays. No amount of people can both develop and perfect a 100 GB+ collection of data within a few years, especially for PC games which would require vigorously testing thousands of different setups.
@Therealbrez
@Therealbrez 8 ай бұрын
This isn't even considering the fact that day one updates are largely also an inherent artifact of the fact that we still have physics media also the fact that game developers aren't unionized which is a bit of a political topic but it does affect the working conditions of developers especially with crunch being so prevalent. My point is that for a lot of games there's a week or two before launch where the game has gone gold where the game is going to be physically pressed onto Blu-ray discs. Typically developers keep on working on the game after it is pressed but before it comes out. Often this is the case for smaller teams who don't have so many games in the pipeline like IO interactive or Remedy or rockstar even. Studios where they focus on one or two games for every so many years. This argument also falls apart when talking about multiplayer games which rely on there being a certain number of servers being available for all of the players. The larger something is the more complicated the backend for their servers will be because the off-the-shelf solutions just fall apart. You know that the larger games are going to need custom solutions like the call of dutys and counter strikes of the world. What about games that explode in popularity after they are released like Among Us or Palworld. These were made by small teams that didn't design their online to be able to sustain 1 million concurrent players because not every indie game can do that because often they have limited resources and spending that much money on a feature when you don't know how popular something is going to be is risky.

To explain the Day 1 update debacle; I work for a rather large game studio and simply put, the reason for day 1 updates are (mostly) because of physical releases. It takes time to print millions of CD’s for different consoles so the developers end up having to send a Version 1.0 to the publisher WEEKS ahead of launch. The developer in the meantime will keep working on the game and making bug fixes, all of which will be available to players as a Day 1 patch. As a side note, there will always be bugs in new video games too, since the amount of play time you’ll have on Day 1 is potentially millions of hours more than all the combined play testing you could’ve had during development. This means that a bug that occurs for every 1-in-100,000 play throughs, which could potentially never have been seen by the devs, will seem so common that people will scratch their heads and poke jokes. Again, this is why Day 1 updates are important as there would be so many more bugs and overall reception wouldn’t be as nice. And before you say “Just ship the game when it’s finished?”, there are massive marketing budgets put in to a game’s release and changing the dates because of a few bugs would increase those budgets dramatically. When you see marketing for a game, it means they have a set release date. When you see a set release date, that means the game isn’t finished yet BUT is in good enough shape that they will meet these deadlines

As someone who got an Intellisivion in 2017 and never touched one before, you need the box/instructions for those games. They’re actually surprisingly deep and involved if you read up on what they want from you. My girlfriend watched me play all day.

6:40 Please, Scott! Games are NOT shipping out as broken messes because they're more complicated. There are so many other factors at play there, mainly studio incompetence and overbearing publisher demands

The "NFC cards as cartridges" is so pointless cause the point of physical media is preservation. If the cards only have a code inside that starts a digital download, then your cartridge is useless once the Amico store goes offline. ...Which is more than likely going to happen.

Uh scott. Retro gamers don't want their games to be forever broken after release. They want their games to release finished to begin with. I would rather every triple a release take longer to come out if it meant they weren't being shipped bugged.

There's something comforting about knowing Scott is out there collecting this insane stuff. If somehow these became super rare and expensive, I have confidence that Scott wouldn't be a creator that's holding onto this stuff in a vault. There would at least be a video showing what the games are like and how ridiculous it is that these are real.

I just knew intellavision would fail with this, theres only 1 company that has gotten into the console space recently and had success, and thats Valve with the steam deck, a hybrid PC/console, compared to the likes of the switch or PS5 Valve selling about 2 million units may not sound like a lot, but considering its Valves first ever standalone hardware Id say they have seen success P.S would love to see a Scott the Woz episopde on the steam deck, as a steam deck owner its much, much more console then it is PC, not that it cant do PC things, but the user experience is much closer to a console then a PC
